  • This paper deals with crater wear when the SUS304 steel which forms the saw- toothed chip was cut by carbide tools. When the saw-toothed chip was formed, and optical creater wear measuring technique was used which provides complete information, both qualitatively and quantitatively, on the crater development. In this optical contour mapping technique an profile projector was used, making it possible to draw the depth contours of the crater directly. 98 contour maps of crater wear representing twelve different cutting conditions were presented. Also, the rake angles changed to have ${\alpha}$ =$6^{\circ}$, ${\alpha}$ =$-6^{\circ}$

  • In continuous galvanizing process at steel making plant, coating weight on the surface of strip that pass through air knife is controlled by the pressure at the chamber of air knife and the gap between the nozzle of air knife and strip. The pressure can be easily measured and controlled. But it is difficult to measure the distance between Air knife nozzle and strip, and also difficult to decide how much distance air knife move. Because, the gap between nozzle and strip varies with the height of air knife, intermesh of stabilizing roll and welding of strips that have different thickness. In this research, we developed a gap sensor that can measure the relative distance between Air knife nozzle and strip. And several tests are performed to find optimal condition for application at real plant. We performed test in which the possibility of the sensor to apply ...

  • Second harmonic generation using nonlinear ultrasonic waves have been shown to be an early indicator of possible fatigue damage in nuclear power plant components. This technique relies on measuring amplitudes, making it highly susceptible to variations in transducer coupling and instrumentation. This paper proposes an experimental procedure for in-situ surface wave nonlinear ultrasound measurements on specimen with permanently mounted transducers under high cycle fatigue loading without interrupting the experiment. It allows continuous monitoring and minimizes variation due to transducer coupling. Moreover, relations describing the effects of the measurement system nonlinearity including the effects of the material transfer function on the measured nonlinearity parameter are derived. An in-situ high cycle fatigue test was conducted using two 304 stainless steel specimens with two different excitation frequencies. A comprehensive analysis of the nonlinear sources, which result in variations in the measured nonlinearity parameters, was performed and the effects of the system nonlinearities are explained and identified. In both specimens, monotonic trend was observed in nonlinear parameter when the value of fundamental amplitude was not changing.

  • Steel frame factories were surveyed in this study in order to explore the possibility of shortening the construction time and save on construction cost through overlapping at the stages of design or construction. In the survey, construction professionals were interviewed in order to collect quantitative data. Hypotheses were then formulated, and the data was thereby analyzed using the simulation technique in order to analyze the effects of the concurrent engineering method on shorter construction time and cost saving. In addition, actual cases were analyzed to determine the overlapping rates of major processes in terms of shorter construction time and cost saving and to analyze the relationship between time and cost due to overlapping.

  • In order to achieve the best performance, the automatic control with advanced technology is made of sheathed steel to withstand a wide range of wave loads. This model shows how to control the vibration of the fiber panel as a solution using the new results from the Lyapunov stability question, a modification of the bat that making it easy to calculate and easy to use. It is used to reduce the storage space required in this system. The results show that the planned worker can compensate effectively for the unplanned delay. The results show that the proposed controller can compensate for delays and errors. Fuzzy control (predictive control) demonstrated the external vibration can be reduced.

  • Research into the selection of suitable materials and the development of fast processing methods for press die manufacturing is absolutely necessary to reduce the production time and cost. In particular, knowledge of its heat properties must be considered whendeveloping a long press die. Generally, as the main component materials of press dies, Cr, W low alloy tool steel, high carbon-high chrome steel, high speed steel, etc., are used as thetooling steel for the cold die. Machine tools and wire-cut electric discharge machining are mainly used for processing the press die parts. There are many differences in the machining time and life cycle of die parts depending on the machining process. The parts produced by milling and grinding have a high manufacturing time and cost with a long life cycle, while thosemade by milling and wire-cut discharge machining have areduced manufacturing time and cost, whereastheir die life cycle is reduced. Therefore, in this study, we will discuss amethod of improving the life cycle of the die parts by using heat treatment as a processing method that reduces the manufacturing time and cost. SEM, EDS analysis and the surface roughness analysis of the surface and center of the workpiece are used for analyzing the specimens produced by three machining methods, viz. milling - grinding, milling - wire cut discharge, and milling - wire cut discharge - heat treatment. A method of making die parts having the same life cycle as those produced by milling - grinding is developed with the milling - wire cut discharge - high temperature tempering method.

  • Recently, quality problems of steel used for construction have been raised as a cause of building collapse and safety accidents. Accordingly, it becomes more important to secure quality through material management, procurement management, and construction management for construction used steels. However, the quality management for construction used steels is confined to technical production and process control. So, it does not provide a solution of various non-conforming steel products issues. Therefore, this study suggests improvements of the construction system to secure quality of the construction used steels. Through expert interviews, we identify the items for system improvement and derive the top priority items by considering utility through a structured Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). It also divided the respondents into enterprise and research groups to analyze differences, implications and future improvement issues and suggest a road map. It is expected that the priority items derived in this study could be useful as a basic data for making policy decisions to assure the quality of construction used steel.

  • The development of a rapidly hardening seal material applicable to steel pipe multistage grouting is described in this paper. In the multistage technique, seal materials are inserted to prevent the backflow of main grouting material. The grouting material must be inserted only after sufficient time has passed for the seal material to reach a gel state. Otherwise, the fluid seal material mixes with the main grouting material and a backflow of the grouting material occurs, thereby making its in situ insertion difficult. Furthermore, if the seal material remains in the gel state for too long a time, it solidifies; and the main grouting material will not be able to seep into the soil. The gel time, i.e., the time needed for the fluid seal material to turn into a gel state, determines the construction period of steel pipe multistage grouting. The gel time is one of the important factors in this technique, because it impacts the total tunnel construction period significantly. This study develops a rapidly hardening calcium aluminate material, which can reduce the gel time and shorten the construction period while retaining proper sealing function. It also presents a method to determine whether the seal material has reached the gel state as well as the quality standard and bleeding rate testing method for the seal material in the gel state.

  • This study analyzed the influence of folding time on the forge welded bar and hammer scale produced using the traditional refining and forge welding reproduction experiment. In the case of the forge welded bar, increasing the forging time decreased the percentage of impurities and porosity from 26.09% to 1.8%. Additionally, the hardness increased by an average of 36.88 HV. In other words, the microstructure gradually became more precise. For the hammer scale, the amount of T Fe increased with forging time. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the presence of quartz, fayalite, $w{\ddot{u}stite$, and magnetite. The amount of quartz decreased as the forging time increased. In addition, as the forging time increased, the granular $w{\ddot{u}stite$ changed into a cohesive, long, white band. The results provide information on the characteristics of the forge welded bar and hammer scale produced in the refining and forging process. This information can be used as technical data for ancient steel making processes as well as for future technological systems.
