수증기처리 열압밀화 목재의 강도적 성질 (Strength Properties of Steaming Wood after Heat-Compression)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of steaming on mechanical properties of heat-compressed wood specimens. The specimens for this mechanical strength tests were prepared to super-heated steam treatment after compression to the radial direction of sonamu (Pinus densiflora). The specimen's size is $50(L)mm{\times}20(R)mm{\times}17(T)mm$. Steaming temperature and treatment time is $120^{\circ}C$ and 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 minutes, respectively. Modulus of elasticity(MOE) in compressive test is directly proportional to steaming time. On the other hand, modulus of elasticity in bending test between steaming and not steaming after heat-compressed wood is similar irrespective of steaming time. The reason for this phenomenon is not clear yet.

원적외선 및 증숙 처리에 따른 인삼 잎의 Protopanaxadiol Ginsenosides 변화 (Changes of Protopanaxadiol Ginsenosides in Ginseng Leaves by Far Infrared and Steaming Heat Treatments)

  • PPD ginsenosides in ginseng leaf were analyzed to determine effects of either FIR heat or steaming heat treatment. Among the PPD ginsenosides, Rb1, Rc and Rb3 forming four glycoside-attached aglycons were increased as FIR heat temperatures were increased from 60 to $120^{\circ}C$, while Rb3 was decreased. In addition, FIR heat treatment was effective to increase Rd forming a three glycoside-attached aglycon. Rg3 and Rh2 were not increased by the FIR heat treatment. In steaming heat treatment, Rb1 was significantly decreased, while Rb2 was increased. Rd was also increased by increased steaming temperature, yet its content was lower than in the FIR heat treatment. However, the steaming heat treatment increased yields of Rg3 and Rh2, which were not observed in the FIR heat treatment. Thus, FIR heat treatment was beneficial to efficient products of Rb1, Rc, Rb3 and Rd. Steaming heat treatment was effective to higher collection of Rb2, Rg3 and Rh2.

Dimensional Stability of Bentwoods by Treatment Conditions

  • This study was carried out to investigate the dimensional stability of bentwoods by three treatments: steaming, urethane varnish coating, and polyethylene glycol (PEG) treatment. Bentwood processing employed a bending-jig with only 4 cm radius of curvature (ROC). The used species were bitter wood (Picrasma quassioides), painted maple (Acer mono), and birch (Betula schmidtiii). The bending properties of these are well-known in bentwood production (Jung et al., 2002). The bentwoods were treated repeated at room temperature [20℃, RH 80% (12 hours) and 40℃ under RH 10% (12 hours)]. To estimate the dimensional stability of bentwoods, we measured the radius of curvature and end-distance. The best results could be attained with PEG treatment. Steaming was the worst treatment. Comparing the properties of the different species, the dimensional stability of bitter wood was excellent. It was concluded that the steaming treatment was unsuitable for dimensional stability of bentwoods.

증숙 과정을 통한 소청룡탕의 뇌신경세포 보호 활성 변화에 관한 연구 (Neuroprotective Activity of So Cheong Ryong Tang with Steaming Process)

  • So Cheong Ryong Tang (SCRT) has been used as a traditional herbal medicine for the treatment of the bronchial asthma. In this study, the effect of steaming process on changes in 11 major compounds (homogentisic acid, ephedrine HCl, paeoniflorin, cinnamic acid, cinnam aldehyde, glycyrrhizin, 6-gingerol, schizandrin, methyleugenol, gomisin A and gomisin N) content and neuroprotective activity of SCRT were evaluated. Major compound content was slightly different with steaming produce. The contents of paeoniflorin, cinnamic acid, cinnam aldehyde, 6-gingerol and methyleugenol were decreased and homogentisic acid, ephedrine HCl, glycyrrhizin, schizandrin and gomisin A were increased by steaming process. The neuroprotective activity of steaming SCRT was determined in mouse hippocampal HT22 cells by MTT assay. As a result, neuroprotective activity of a steaming SCRT was higher than that of a non steaming SCRT. This study demonstrated that neuroprotective activity of SCRT can be improved through steaming process.

감자의 품질특성에 대한 저온스팀 열처리 방식의 효과 (Effects of Soft Steam Treatments on Quality Characteristics of Potatoes)

  • This paper examines the effects of various methods of soft steaming(i.e., forced convection-boiler, forced convection-fan, and natural convection) on the quality of potatoes. In particular, the paper investigates the effects of cooking conditions (the steaming method, the treatment time, and the temperature) on the color(L, a, b), moisture content, texture profile, and ascorbic acid of potatoes. The results indicate that not only the cooking method, the treatment time, and the temperature but also the heat transfer mechanism had considerable influence on potato quality. In addition, natural convection steaming was superior to other treatment methods in terms of nutrient retention and texture maintenance. The results of this study should be useful for establishing commercial standards for processing potatoes and improving the quality of thermally processed foods.

Properties of PSL, TL, and ESR to Identify the Irradiated Sesame Seeds after Steaming

  • Three physical methods, photostimulated luminescence (PSL), thermoluminescence (TL), and electron spin resonance (ESR), have been applied to detect the irradiation treatment for the non- and steamed sesame seed samples. PSL successfully screened the irradiated samples from the non-irradiated control by comparing their photon counts (PCs) with the lower (less than 700 count/60 sec) and upper threshold values (higher than 5,000 count/60 sec). TL signals were still detected in all irradiated samples even after steaming, which was reconfirmed with TL ratios [integrated area of $TL_1$ (the first glow)/$TL_2$ (the second glow)] through re-irradiation step. ESR spectrometry showed that radiation-induced cellulose radicals were detected in all the irradiated samples irrespective of steaming treatment. Identification of the irradiated sesame seeds was possible even after steaming by analyzing PSL, TL, and ESR.

소맥글루텐과 스팀 처리가 새우 사료의 수중 안정성에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Wheat gluten and Steaming Treatment on Water Stability of Extruded Shrimp Feed)

  • 본 연구는 새우사료의 수중 안정성을 증대시키기 위하여 실시되었다. 스팀처리도 하지 않고 글루텐도 함유하지 않은 비교시험 사료와 스팀 처리만 한 사료 그리고 소맥글루텐을 첨가하고 압출 성형한 후 스팀 처리한 사료, 세 가지 종류의 새우 사료를 제조하였다. 소맥글루텐을 새우사료에 4% (w/w) 가량 첨가하고 압출 성형한 다음 5분간 스팀 처리를 한 사료는 48시간이 지난 수중 안정성이 1로서, 소맥글루텐을 첨가하지 않고 스팀 처리도 하지 않은 비교 시험 사료의 4에 비해 수중 안정성이 크게 증가하였다. 또한 대하 사육 시험에서도 체중 증가율과 사료 효율이 각각 237%, 16.7%로서 비교 시험 사료의 151%, 12.8%보다 그 수치가 크게 증가하였다. 소맥글루텐의 첨가량과 스팀 처리 시간을 변화시켜 본 결과 소맥글루텐 첨가량을 4∼8%(w/w), 스팀 처리시간은 5∼10분으로 하는 것이 새우사료의 수중 안정성 개선에 적당한 것으로 나타났다.

고온수증기 처리에 의한 낙엽송재의 물성변화 (Physical Properties of Larch(Larix kaemferi Carr.) Treated by High Temperature Steaming)

  • 본 연구에서는 낙엽송재(Larix Kaemferi Carr.)를 대상으로 100℃부터 130℃까지의 고온영역에서 10℃ 간격으로 처리시간을 10분, 30분, 60분간으로 하여 수증기처리 후 처리재의 물리적 특성 등을 검토하였으며, 오토클레이브를 사용 처리하였다. 휨강도와 압축강도는 처리온도의 증가에 따라 약간씩 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 수증기처리한 목재강도와 처리온도 사이에는 명확한 결과가 나타나지 않았다. 120℃에서 130℃의 온도범위에서 세포벽 내의 성분과 조직이 변화하는 것으로 생각되는데, 이것은 응력의 해소에서 기인되는 것으로 생각되었다. 수분흡수성은 고온수증기처리조건에 의한 변화가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 결론적으로 본 실험의 범위에 있어서 목재의 물성은 처리 온도조건보다는 목재밀도의 영향을 많이 받고 있는 것으로 판단되었다.

  • Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) has been used as an important medicinal plant in the Orient for a long time. It has been claimed that ginseng has many beneficial bioactive effects on human health, such as antitumor, antistress, antiaging and enhancing immune functions. Red ginseng possibly have new ingredients converted during steaming and dry process from fresh ginseng. In this study, pharmacological efficacy and ingredient conversion of ginseng by 9 repetitive steaming and drying process were investigated measuring conversion efficiency of acidic-polysaccharide, phenolic compounds and inhibition of peroxide lipides. It was found that acidic-polysaccarides were increased by heat treatment. In addition, maltol of phenolic compounds, strong antioxidant, produced during the process of red ginseng by Maillard reaction. Acidic-polysaccarides and maltol were increased after the 1st and 3rd steaming and drying treatments, but they were decreased gradually after 5th, 7th, and 9th treatments. Antioxidant activity was increased as increasing treatment times of steaming and drying without significance. Effect of red ginseng extract on inhibition of peroxide was increased gradually until after the 7th treatment, but remarkably decreased after the 9th treatment.

고온수증기처리 목재의 전단강도 특성 (Shear Strength Property of Wood Treated by Steam Treatment at High Temperature)

  • 본 연구는 $100^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온영역에서 증기처리에 의한 소나무(Pinus densiflora)재와 라디아타소나무(Pinus radiata)재의 전단강도를 조사하였다. 본 연구에서 사용한 열처리 조건은 온도조건 $100^{\circ}C$부터 $200^{\circ}C$까지 $20^{\circ}C$ 간격으로 6조건과 시간조건 5, 10, 20, 30분의 4조건이었으며, 폭쇄처리기를 사용하였다. 고온에서 증기처리에 의해 목재구성요소의 감소가 전단강도의 감소로 나타나고 목질재료의 광범위한 가소화를 진행시키는 것으로 판단된다. 목재의 전단강도는 증기처리시간에 따라서 점차적으로 감소한다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 10분 이상의 증기처리시간일 경우 온도가 올라갈수록 전단강도의 감소가 눈에 띄게 커졌다. 고온에서 증기처리에 의한 연화는 목재가공성 향상에 필요하다고 생각된다.
