A method of analysis of the steady-state performance of induction motor with supply voltage controlled by cyclically-triggered inline thyristors is presented. Phase-variable model and asymmetrical components are not used in this analysis. Instead, Fast Fourier Transform technique and the method of multiple reference frames are employed to obtain the constant-speed performance of I.M. easily.
The turbofan engine performance analysis for a medium scale commercial aircraft was carried out and the LQR control scheme for performance optimization was studied. By using scaled component maps from well-known CF6 engine characteristics, the steady-state performance analysis result was compared with BR715-56 engine performance data. The transient performance analysis was performed with four fuel schedules. The linear simulation was done at the maximum take-off condition. The real time linear simulation was performed by interpolation of the system matrices, which used the least square method as the function of LPC rotational speed. By using linear system matrices of design point, the LQR controller which used control variables for the fuel flow and the LPC bleed air was designed.
This article proposes a novel approach to measure the performance of Safety-Critical Systems (SCS). Such systems contain multiple processing nodes that communicate with each other is modeled by a Petri nets (PN). The paper uses the PN for the performance evaluation of SCS. A set of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) is derived from the Petri net model that represent the state of the system, and the solutions can be used to measure the system's performance. The proposed method can avoid the state space explosion problem and also introduces new metrics of performance, along with their measurement: deadlock, liveness, stability, boundedness, and steady state. The proposed technique is applied to Shutdown System (SDS) of Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). We obtained 99.887% accuracy of performance measurement, which proves the effectiveness of our approach.

While Model-based Monitoring systems based on state observer theory have shown much promise in the laboratory, they have not been widely accepted by industry because, inpractice, these systems often have poor performance with respect to accuracy, band-width, reliability(false alarms), and robustness. In this paper, the linitations of the deterministic discrete-time state observer are investigated quantitatively from the machine monitoring viewpoint. The limitations in the transient and steady-state observer performance are quantified as estimation error bounds from which performance indices are selected. Each index represents the conditioning of the corresponding performance. By utilizing matrix norm theory, an unified main index is determined, that dominates all the indices. This index could from the basis for an observer design methodology that should improve the performance of model-based monitoring systems.
This paper analyzes DLL(Delay lock loop) under the multipath fading effects. The evaluated performance measures include the steady-state timing error probability density function (PDF) and the mean-time-to-lose-lock (MTLL) under multipath fading effects. The discriminator characteristic S(${\epsilon}$) is shown to be zero at the point of timing error ${\epsilon}_{0}$ that is not zero, and the MTLL decreases as the delayed signal power $g_{2}$ and delayed time ${\tau}_{d}$ increase. We approximate the steady-state timing error PDF linearly with these variables and evaluate the steady-state timing error PDF and MTLL. The severe multipath fading effects result lower MTLL, in this case we make MTLL larger by increasing the early-late discriminator offset ${\Delta}$. First, we calculate the timing error point ${\epsilon}_{0}$, and present the performance of DLL under multipath fading. The timing error PDF, MTLL and the performance of DLL with ${\Delta}$ are also investigated. And we conclude that the larger ${\Delta}$ makes a higher MTLL and a better performance of DLL under multipath fading effects.
In the present study, the thermal performance of multiple rock caverns for large-scale thermal energy storage (TES) was numerically investigated for different separation distances between the caverns through heat transfer analysis using a computational fluid dynamics code, FLUENT. The thermal performance of multiple caverns was assessed in terms of the thermal stratification within the caverns and the heat loss to the surroundings, and the heating characteristics of the rock around the caverns were investigated. The results of numerical simulation showed that there was little difference in thermal performance between multiple TES caverns with different separation distances when the surrounding rock was less heated and it reached thermal steady-state, which represent the thermal states of the surrounding rock at the early and long-term operational stages of the TES caverns, respectively. However, as the separation distance decreased, the rock between the caverns reached thermal steady-state more quickly, and thus the heat loss from the caverns tended to converge rapidly to the value of heat loss occurred under thermal steady-state conditions in the surrounding rock. This result implies that the operating cost of heating the surrounding rock (i.e., rock heating) can be reduced with a reduction in the separation distance between multiple caverns, and suggests that the separation distance should be determined by considering the operating cost of rock heating as well as the construction cost of the caverns.
Both theoretical and experimental investigations were conducted to analyze defrosting behavior of a window heater operating in the low outdoor temperature($-20^{\circ}C$). To achieve this purpose, first a warm-chamber experiment($23^{\circ}C$) was performed to measure inner and outer surface temperature of the rear window(heated by the electric heater supplying 195 W) as functions of both time and position. Secondly, a cold chamber experiment was made to continuously record defrosting process of the frosted window. From the comparisons of the two experimental results, it was found that there was a similarity between the spatial distributions of both temperature and remaining frost. Thus, the temperature data from the warm-chamber experiments can be utilized to predict an expected zone covered with remaining frosts, and this approach can also be adopted in the inspection process in order to economically guarantee optimized performance of the window heater. Finally, an analytical model based on one-dimensional, steady-state heat transfer theories was proposed and successfully predicted the outer surface temperature of the rear window surrounded by cold air($-20^{\circ}C$) for the given operating conditions(heater power, inside and outside heat transfer coefficients, and surrounding air temperature, etc.).

An optimal control procedure is presented for steering of an unmanned cart which has two motored wheels on its left and right side. Steering, running and stopping are enabled by controlling the motor speed independently. An optimal proportional-plus-integral control is employed to eliminate steady state error which is sustained by a simple proportional control for tracking a circular arc path. A simple and readily-implemented suboptimal control is also examined. The suboptimal control gives comparable performance and therefore provides an effective approach for industrial application of the unmanned cart. Effects of design parameters of unmanned cart such as forward velocity, wheel radius and position of sensor are investigated. It is shown that within the practicable values of the parameters the controlled performance improves rapidly with increase of those parameters then the improvement becomes negligible, which suggests base values over which the parameters should be taken.

To optimize the intake flow condition in the heavy-duty LPG SI engine, five different swirl ratios of intake port were investigated experimentally by oil spot method, LDV and single cylinder engine test. The flow characteristics near the piston surface were observed by oil spot method and magnitudes of swirl flow were measured quantatively by LDV method in the steady flow rig. The engine performances of various swirl flow were also tested with the heavy-duty LPG SI single cylinder engine. In the results, high swirl ratio, above $R_s$=2.3, was not suitable to develope a stable flame kernel and to produce high engine performance. Especially it was more serious under lean burn conditions, since turbulence intensity was smaller than bulk flow though those are increased together. These results were also confirmed by LDV measurement and oil spot method. On the contrary, low swirl ratio($R_s$=1.3) is not good to propagate a flame since the turbulence intensity and bulk flow are vanished during compression stroke and low swirl ratio has too weak initial energy for stable combustion. Therefore, the of optimized swirl ratio f3r the heavy-duty LPG engine in this work was found around $R_s$=2.0.

Coefficients of the adaptive filter are misadjusted by primary signals which are uncorrelated with reference signals of the adaptive filter. In this paper, the normalized sign algorithm is analyzed and compared with the NLMS algorithm by the steady state performance and the transient characteristics when target signals are included in primary signals. The excess mean square error of the NLMS algorithm is proportional to the power of target signals. That of normalized sign algorithm is proportional to the square root of the target signal power. However, the convergence speed of the normalized sign algorithm is slower than that of NLMS algorithm. In this paper, it is shown that theoretical analysis of the steady state performance and the transient characteristics are well consisted with the results of computer simulation.
