  • The current survey form of grassland has not played its role in managing the grassland effectively because of the ambiguous questionnaire items and the absence of method and time of the investigation. Therefore, this study was conducted to clarify and add the items for effective of grassland management. The survey form of grassland was regulated in Article 16 of the Enforcement Rules of the Grassland Act (Survey on Grasslands Management Status, etc.). The five contents that needed improvement were the grassland owner, the survey timing and method of established grassland, grassland used livestock, grassland usage condition, and grassland grade. In the improved survey form of grassland, the grassland owner was changed to the grassland manager. In addition, 'Survey by each land' was added to the improved survey form in which the managers can survey each land. The dimension of each grassland establishment method was deleted in the grassland establishment time and method. In the livestock using grassland, the number of livestock and the area where livestock are used were added, and the number of other livestock was added, too. The grassland grade was decided as the combined score by three evaluation categories; grassland usage, the ratio of forage production in grassland and kinds of forage. The high, middle, and low grades were over 8, 6~7, and under 5 points in the combined score, respectively. The results show that the changed survey form of grassland can make grassland management more efficient by materializing the subject of grassland management and the survey terminology and methods.

  • IT investments of hospitals are growing exponentially and various information systems such as OCS (Order Communication System), EMR (Electronic Medical Record), PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) have been implemented at a number of hospitals in Korea. We have surveyed and analyzed the current status of hospital information systems of major hospitals in Korea, and proposed an information strategy for e-Hospital implementation. Firstly, implementation status of major subsystems of HIS such as OCS, PACS, and EMR has been surveyed and types of IT personnel management have been examined. Based on the field survey result, an information strategy for e-Hospital implementation has been proposed, that can be referenced by hospitals to build their own information strategy. We expect that the study result can contribute to understanding the present status and issues of HIS and information strategy planning of hospitals.

  • This study conducted a secondary analysis using original data of performed by Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs to determine factors affecting oral health-related quality of life and mental health in the elderly. The research subjects were 1,217 people who were over 65 years old and completed an oral examination and oral questionnaire survey. The results were as follows. First, mental health problems arise in people with an oral health status designated as 'bad' or when they feel 'very uncomfortable' chewing or speaking. Second, the quality of life decreases as problems with chewing and speaking increase. The results reveal that to reduce problems of mental health(stress, depression, suicide) and to enhance the quality of life, there is a need to develope diverse programs for preventive treatment and oral health education. What is the most important is consistent policy support.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors that influence medication adherence in colorectal cancer patients receiving oral chemotherapy. Methods: One hundred and nine colorectal cancer patients receiving oral chemotherapy were recruited in the cross-sectional survey design. A survey including medication adherence, knowledge about chemotherapy, self-efficacy, depression and symptom experience were completed. Results: The level of medication adherence was $7.38{\pm}.80$. Medication adherence showed significant differences according to perceived health status and combination of IV chemotherapy. Medication adherence was significant correlated with self-efficacy, depression and symptom experience. On stepwise regression analysis, the most important factors related to the medication adherence were symptom experience, perceived health status and combination of IV chemotherapy. These variables explained 17% of medication adherence. Conclusion: The level of medication adherence in colorectal cancer patients receiving oral chemotherapy was relatively high. It is important to develop nursing intervention for medication adherence in colorectal cancer patients that focus on symptom experience and to consider about perceived health status and combination of IV chemotherapy.

  • We evaluated the nutritional and socioeconomical factors of 100 children aged $5{\sim}6$ years. Forty five children (45%) were selected from families with low socioeconomic status, while 55 children (55%) were from those with high socioeconomic status. Some differences of the nutritional factors (eating behavior, food preference, food frequency) were found between low and high socioeconomic groups. This survey suggest that eating behavior, food preference and food frequency may be useful in estimating nutritional factors. And the nutrition education for the children and their meal planners is necessary to improve the nutritional status of the subjects.

  • This paper shows survey result on safety management status of laboratories in Korea. In Korea, many studies and reports on laboratory safety have been published since the ministry of education, science and technology (MEST) enforced the Act on Establishing a Safe Environment of Laboratories (Lab Safety Act) in 2006. The MEST has surveyed status of safety management in institutions subject to Lab Safety Act in 2008 and 2010. According to the survey result, safety management status of universities and colleges has been improved on several factors such as establishment of safety manual and implementation of safety inspection; while the number of safety managers of universities and colleges have increased. However, the difficulties in performing duties of safety managers has increased because the number of exclusive safety managers has decreased. This paper identifies the similarities and differences between Occupational Safety and Health Act and Lab Safety Act on assignment and duties of safety managers; therefore, this paper suggests a standard to determine the number of safety managers and decide whether or not their duties should be exclusive. Besides current standard that is based on the number of researchers, the number of individual laboratories should be considered. The new method would be helpful to determine the number of exclusive safety managers because the amount of safety managers' duties generally do not depend on only the number of people who may be exposed to any risk but also the number of facilities that may be cause of any accident.

  • This study aims to develop an index of food security in order to assess food security status in Korea and to evaluate reliability and validity of the index. The index of food security was developed based on the US Household Food Security Survey Module (US-HFSS). After the US-HFSS was translated and back-translated, it was evaluated and modified by a focus interview for experts. The developed Korean Household Food Security Survey Module (K-HFSS) was tested by cognitive interviews and a pretest for general community population to assess its application for Korean population. For the reliability and validity of K-HFSS, the survey was conducted with 300 adults aged 40 years or more living in a rural community and 212 infants and toddlers living in an urban community. The reliability was assessed by Cronbach' alpha and the validity was evaluated by content validity, construct validity, and criterion-related validity. The questionnaire items of K-HFSS were partly modified, accounting for Korean social and cultural backgrounds and adapted by general community population. The reliability was relatively high, showing Cronbach' alpha coefficients ranged from 0.80 (for adults) to 0.87 (for infants and toddlers). The content and construct validities were all acceptable. The result of criterion-related validity showed that food security status was significantly related to the household income level. In conclusion, the K-HFSS would be used as a reliable and valid instrument to assess food security status in parts of the Korean population.
