  • Objectives : This study aimed to analyze the management efficiency of Korean Medicine hospitals for recent 10 years(2001~2010) using the Data Envelop Analysis(DEA) model. Methods : We collected the management data of 23 Korean Medicine hospitals for DEA model from the Korean Oriental Medicine Hospitals' Association (KOMHA). Input variables of DEA model are numbers of beds, numbers of doctors, numbers of nurses and numbers of other staffs of each Korean Medicine hospitals. Output variables are numbers of inpatients and numbers of outpatients of each Korean Medicine hospitals. Based on the DEA model, we calculated the efficiency score of each Korean Medicine hospital and compared it by hospital's ownership, location, and size. Results : Average DEA efficiency scores of Korean Medicine hospitals by year ranged from 0.86 to 0.92. Private owned hospitals showed higher efficiency scores than the university affiliated hospitals with statistical significance (p=0.001). And Korean Medicine hospitals located in capital region of Korea(Seoul City, Incheon City, Gyeonggi-do) and the rest Korean Medicine hospitals did not show statistical difference (p=0.516). Lastly, Korean Medicine hospitals with different size did not show statistical difference in management efficiency (p=0.499). Conclusion : We have found that Korean Medicine hospitals management efficiency have not changed throughout 10 years, and that different ownership forms of Korean Medicine hospital show statistical difference in management efficiency while location, and size do not.

  • This study compares Customer Satisfaction Index(CSI) and the weight for each dimension by applying various methods of weight calculation and attempts to suggest some implications. For the purpose, the study classified the methods of weight calculation into the subjective method and the statistical method. Constant sum scale was used for the subjective method, and the statistical method was again segmented into correlation analysis, principal component analysis, factor analysis, structural equation model. The findings showed that there is difference between the weights from the subjective method and the statistical method. The order of the weights by the analysis methods were classified with similar patterns. Besides, the weight for each dimension by different methods of weight calculation showed considerable deviation and revealed the difference of discrimination and stability among the dimensions. Lastly, the CSI calculated by various methods of weight calculation showed to be the highest in structural equation model, followed by in the order of regression analysis, correlation analysis, arithmetic mean, principal component analysis, constant sum scale and factor analysis. The CSI calculated by each method showed to have statistically significant difference.

  • Purpose. to describe the prevalence of refractive error according to aging in young children in South Korea. Methods : From July 2013 to June 2014, five hundred subjects( 250 male subjects, 250 female subjects; aged between 7 and 12 years) were performed in refraction test using the Auto-Refraction. Myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and anisometropia were defined as spherical equivalent(SE)${\leq}-0.50$ diopters, SE ${\geq}+2.00$ D, cylinder error ${\geq}0.75$ D and SE difference${\geq}1.00$ D between binocular eyes, respectively. Results. The refractive error by spherical equivalent among all subjects was myopia 80.41%, astigmatism 44.89%, emmetropia 18.27%, anisometropia 16.92%, and hyperopia 1.32%. The prevalence of myopia increased with age. but hyperopia was decrease. Myopia and astigmatism were much more common in male than females although the difference was not statically significant. Emmetropia and hyperopia were much more common in female than males although the difference was not statically significant. The prevalence of spherical equivalent was much common from -1.00 diopter to 0.99 diopter. On the other hand, the prevalence of myopia was much more than hyperopia. There was a statistical significance between 9 year and 10 year of female in the spherical equivalent power(p>0.05). In all another group of age, there was not a statistical significance as aging in spherical equivalent power(p>0.5). However, there was a statistical significance between male and female as age in the spherical equivalent power(P>0.01). Conclusions: Myopia was the most common refractive error in Korea young children, while hyperopia was decreased after 7 years. There was a statistical significance as age between male and female at spherical equivalent power(P> 0.01). these results suggested that the analysis of the refractive error as age at young children can give the useful diagnosis data for the correction of visual function.

  • This paper tried to construct statistical and econometric models on the basis of economic theory in order to discuss the issue of statistical efficiency and unbiasedness including the sample selection bias correcting problem. Comparative analytical tool were one stage Tobit of Maximum Likelihood estimation and Heckman's two-step Tobit of Ordinary Least Squares. The results showed that the adequacy of model for the analysis on demand and choice, we believe that there is no big difference in explanatory variables between the first selection model and the second linear probability model. Since the Lambda, the self- selectivity correction factor, in the Type II Tobit is not statistically significant, there is no self-selectivity in the Type II Tobit model, indicating that Type I Tobit model would give us better explanation in the demand for and choice which is less complicated statistical method rather than type II model.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop the Index of Balanced Life from the Korean life style. This paper presents How Koreans live for 24 hours a day, generally. The Index of Life Style is composed of necessary life, duty life and leisure life. Specifically, this paper considers moving time of activity between indexes of balanced life. We suggest that there is a difference among the characteristics, i.e., a sex, week, state of student and region that are explained by analyzing the exploratory data. Thereafter we obtain the statistical inference from each characteristic table.

  • We propose a variational segmentation model based on statistical information of intensities in an image. The model consists of both a local region-based energy and a global region-based energy in order to handle misclassification which happens in a typical statistical variational model with an assumption that an image is a mixture of two Gaussian distributions. We find local ambiguous regions where misclassification might happen due to a small difference between two Gaussian distributions. Based on statistical information restricted to the local ambiguous regions, we design a local region-based energy in order to reduce the misclassification. We suggest an algorithm to avoid the difficulty of the Euler-Lagrange equations of the proposed variational model.
