Counter-rotating axial flow fan(CRF) consists of two counter-rotating rotors without stator blades. CRF shows the complex flow characteristics of the three-dimensional, viscous, and unsteady flow fields. For the understanding of the entire core flow in CRF, it is necessary to investigate the three-dimensional unsteady flow field between the rotors. This information is also essential to improve the aerodynamic characteristics and to reduce the aerodynamic noise level and vibration characteristics of the CRF. In this paper, experimental study on the three-dimensional unsteady flow of the CRF is performed at the design point(operating point). Flow fields in the CRF are measured at the cross-sectional planes of the upstream and downstream of each rotor using the $45^{\circ}$ inclined hot-wire. The phase-locked averaged hot-wire technique utilizes the inclined hot-wire, which rotates successively with 120 degree increments about its own axis. Three-dimensional unsteady flow characteristics such as tip vortex, secondary flow and tip leakage flow in the CRF are shown in the form of the axial, radial and tangential velocity vector plot and velocity contour. The phase-locked averaged velocity profiles of the CRF are analyzed by means of the stationary unsteady measurement technique. At the mean radius of the front rotor inlet and the outlet, the phase-locked averaged velocity profiles show more the periodical flow characteristics than those of the hub region. At the tip region of the CRF, the axial velocity is decreased due to the boundary layer effect of the fan casing and the tip vortex flow. The radial and the tangential velocity profiles show the most unstable and unsteady flow characteristics compared with other position of rotors. But, the phase-locked averaged velocity profiles of the downstream of the rear rotor show the aperiodic flow pattern due to the mixture of the front rotor wake period and the rear rotor rotational period.
A chromatographic method is used to measure interactions between dissimilar proteins in aqueous electrolyte solutions as a function of ionic strength, salt type, and pH. One protein is immobilized on the surface of the stationary phase, and the other is dissolved in electrolyte solution conditions flowing over that surface. The relative retention of proteins reflects the mean interactions between immobile and mobile proteins. The osmotic cross second virial coefficient calculated by assuming a proposed potential function shows that the interactions of unfavorable proteins depend on solution conditions, and the proposed model shows good agreement with the experimental data of the given systems.
Sulfonated cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) (SCDMPC)-coated zirconia monolith (ZM) was used as the chiral stationary phase in capillary electrochromatography for separation of enantiomers of ten chiral compounds in acetonitrile (ACN)-phosphate buffer mixtures as the eluent. Influences of the ACN content, buffer concentration and pH on chiral separation have been investigated. Separation data on SCDMPC-ZM have been compared with those on CDMPC-ZM. Resolution factors were better on SCDMPC-ZM than CDMPC-ZM while retention factors were in general shorter on the former than the latter. Best chiral resolutions on SCDMPC-ZM were obtained with the eluent of 50% ACN containing 50 mM phosphate at pH around 4.

In the present study the unsteady forces acting on the pitching foils such as a flat plate, NACA0010, NACA0020, NACA65-0910 and BTE have been measured by using a six-axis sensor in a circulating water tunnel at a low Reynolds number region. The unsteady characteristics of the dynamic drag and lift have been compared to the quasi-steady ones which are measured under the stationary condition. The pitching motion is available for keeping the lift higher after the separation occurs. Especially, the characteristics of the dynamic lift are quite different from the quasi-steady one at high pitching frequency regions. As the pitching frequency deceases, the amplitude of the dynamic lift becomes closer to the quasi-steady one. However, the phase remains different between the steady and unsteady conditions even at low pitching frequencies. On the other hand, the dynamic drag is governed strongly by the angle of attack.

The forced vibrations of nondissipative nonlinear two-degree-of-freedom system, subjected to periodic forcing functions, are investigated by use of the method of slowly changing phase and amplitude. The first order differential equations are derived for nonrationally solutions and the coupled nonlinear algebraic equations for stationary solutions. Through investigating the response curves of the system, which are obtained numerically by using Newton-Raphson method, it is found that the resonances can occur at more than the number of degree-of-freedom of the system depending on the relation between the nonlinear spring parameters, which has no counterpart in linear systems.
The obligate aerobic Deinococcus are highly resistant against lethal effect of UV-and ionizing-radiation. Only five mesophilic Deinococcus species, i. e. D. radiodurans, D. radiophilus, D. proteolyticus, D. radiopugnans, and D. grandis are known. Since an indispensable role of catalase has been suggested in protecting cells against oxidative stress and UV radiation, Deinococcal catalase activity of each species and electrophoretic profiles of catalases were investigated on gel. Total catalase activity was varied among the species in the aerobically grown culture at stationary phase. The occurrence of multiple forms of catalases with different molecular weights in four species of Deinococcus and of a single catalase in D. radiopugnans suggests that each species shows the unique catalase profiles on gel. Some Deinococcal catalases also exhibit peroxidase activity. Since Deinococcus spp. are less-distinct to each other in their morphology, biochemical and physiological properties, the catalase profiles on PAGE would be useful in identifying the species of Deinococcus.

Bacteriocin-producing microorganism was isolated from Kimchi. The microorganism was identified as a Lactobacillus sp. and named Lactobacillus sp. JB-42. The optimum conditions for the bacteriocin production from the isolated microorganism were evaluated. For the maximum yield of bacteriocin from Lactobacillus sp. JB-42, the cell should be harvested at the early stationary phase and the temperature, pH and NaCl concentration should be $30^{\circ}C$, pH 7 and without the addition of NaCl, respectively. Sucrose, glucose or fructose should be used as a carbon source and organic nitrogen such as tryptone should be used as a nitrogen source for the best yield. The production of bacteriocin was related to the cell growth of Lactobacillus sp. JB-42 indicating the role of Lactobacillus in the Kimchi fermentation process.
We investigated the effect of Triton X-100 on the growth and morphology of Trichoderma koningii by comparing various parameters representing the frowth of mold in the presence or absence of Triton X-100. The specific growth rate and doubling time of T. koningii were not affected by the addition of 0.05% Triton X-100 in batch culture. However, in the presence of Triton X-100, cultures reached its stationary phase earlier and showed reduced level in total yield of biomass. The addition of Triton X-100 into solid medium also resulted in decrease in the colony radial growth rate and this response was correlated with the formation of mycelia which showed increase in branching and septation in the presence of Triton X-100.
This paper describe the method and the result of making a fiber optic gyrocompass measuring the heading angles of a ship with a fiber optic sensor. As the method seeking for the heading angles, it is possible to get the heading angles by measuring the output signals from a stationary fiber optic sensor in at least three directions such as a heading direction and other two directions having phase difference ${\phi}1$ and ${\phi}2$ to the heading. We made the static fiber optic gyrocompass by a high performance fiber optic sensor having scale factor of 210mV/deg/s and resolution of 0.5deg/hr using this principle. The accuracy of this system was $0.29^{\circ}$ from 20 numbers of data measuring the arbitrary heading angle.
The enantiomers of higenamine were directly separated by high performance liquid chromatography using a chiral stationary phase and detected by UV. The R- and S-isomers of higenamine were eluted at the retention time of 22 min and 27 min, respectively. Higenamine was determined to be present as R-(+)-enantiomer not only in the embryo of Nelumbo nucifera, from which the separation of R-(+)-higenamine was reported, but also in various Aconite roots, from which higenamine was separated as optically inert racemic mixtures.
