  • The attenuation study of Lg waves is very important in the southeast Korea because the Yangsan fault, believed to be active faults, lied in the industrialized region of the area. By applying the reversed two-station method for the vertical component of the velocity seismogram, we first estimated the Lg attenuation coefficient in this area: $${\gamma}=(0.009±0.0005)\;f^{0.06+0.03}$$ between 0.87 and 10 Hz. The ${Q_{Lg}}^{-1}$ values converted from ${\gamma}$ prove to be higher than those of S-waves, and show the highest values in the world for the high frequency part around 10 Hz. This high attenuation of Lg may be related to a block of Lg propagation near the East Sea and/or an undulately thinning crust of the studied area.

  • Emergency response has been considered as an important task in practice, because it is directly associated with the survival of patients. However, it is very difficult to increase the number of fire stations due to the budget and efficiency problem. Under this circumstances, it is critical to consider the suitability of current arrangement for 911 fire station. This is especially true in Gyeonggi-Do where the characteristics of each sub-area are different. In response, this study aims to identify types of areas that are vulnerable for emergency situations, and try to find relevant solutions for each type. For this purpose, we collected 151,463 data for emergency declaration data which exceeds 10 minutes for its response. Total 19 clustering variables which are used as input variables are selected, considering the characteristics of each area. As a result of clustering analysis, three clusters are identified and analyzed. Finally, areas whose emergence response time is in top 10% are selected and analyzed. This paper is expected to find current issues and problems of emergency response for each area, and help to understand and solve the problem for the local government.

  • This study was conducted to light intensity and night interruption on leaf production in perilla. Using two cultivars ; og-dong and Yeup-sil. The present studies were conducted to investigate effect of the light intensity and night interruption for prolongation of vegetative growth by flowering inhibition in the National Honam Crop Experiment Station, R. D. A, Iri, Korea. The results are summarized as followes, varietal differences of days to flower initiation were not significant by the light intensity and night interruption, however differences of days to flower initiation light intensity or night interruption treatment were higly significant. Flowering of perilla was prolongated in high light intensity and in long night interruption. Between the factors treated flowering of perilla was more influenced by light intensity than night interruption. Days to flower initiation of perilla were light intensity(0.5∼1 Lux) in 30 mins night interruption, however 3∼10 light intensity in 60 mins night interruption and 30∼100 Lux light intensity in 10, 30, 60 mins night interruption treatment were not flowering. Plant height, leaf area and dry weight of perilla were the highest in 30∼100 Lux light intensity treatment than in the other treatments. The results would be avaliable establish year-round production methods for low cost of perilla leaf.

  • The urban railway station is a structure that consumes a large amount of electric energy. Thus, the rationalization of using electric power is acutely demanded, but statistical data and design criteria that consider operating power load characteristics and structures, are very insufficiency. Therefore, this study investigated and analyzed that electricity consumption a year, characteristics, gross floor area of the station, structure, and etc, on the basis of Seoul metro station 1~4 line. Through regression analysis theory, we verified the overall features and the main tendency by analysis of specific parameter value(average, maximum, minimum, etc). The object of this study is the analysis about power density considering structure of the urban railway station, managing electric energy for the rationalization and setting a new standard of maintenance and construction.

  • Rice production in Korea has markedly increased during the last two decades due to newly developed high yielding varieties and improved production technology. This experiment was conducted to determine the potential of tropical japonica germplasm in enhancing the yield of temperate japonica. The yield performance of two tropical japonicas (IR 65597-29-3-2 and IR66154-52-1-2) and one temperate japonica (Dongjinbyeo) was compared at different plant densities and nitrogen levels under Korean environmental conditions. Although tropical japonicas showed low tillering habit and large panicles, they had similar leaf area index and dry weight at heading stage to Dongjinbyeo of the high tillering type indicating that there was not much difference between tropical and temperate japonica in terms of biomass production. The highest milled rice yield of 6.15 t/ha was obtained from Dongjinbyeo at a high nitrogen level with less planting density (220 kg N/ha and 30 $\times$ 15 cm). However, those of the two tropical japonicas were 5.36 t/ha at the condition of 165 kg N/ha and 30 x 10 cm planting density and 5.06 t/ha at the condition of 165kgN/ha and 15 x 15 cm planting density, respectively. Ripened grain of tropical japonicas ranged from 65 to 87%, while that Dongjinbyeo ranged from 82 to 97% under Korean conditions.

  • Traffic control is the center of the railway traffic control system. The main objective of railway traffic control system is to minimize delays, providing the customers with on-time train operating service according to the given train schedule. Particularly, within the station control area, the departure & arrival of train. the decision on the train priority and the shunting of train are decided by the authority of the local traffic controller. Therefore, it is necessary to have a lot of information and communications between each departments. And for such decision making of the local traffic controller, not only the communication between each stations are needed, but also the communication between other stations are needed too. In this paper, we have analyzed the main work of the local traffic controller in large scale stations and have designed the station traffic control system needed to be built within the station considering the local traffic. And we have proposed not only the communication with other system within station, but also the communication methods for communications with the neighboring stations.

  • In this paper, we propose a channel assignment scheme for reducing call blocking rate in a base station(BS) of DS-CDMA cellular systems. The proposed scheme can e applied to the case where the capacity of reverse radio link is enough, but not are the available traffic channels performing the digital modulation and demodulation functions between a mobile station and the base station. The proposed scheme takes advantage of the feature of soft handoff in which a mobile station keeps its communication link even if one of the two communication links is released. The scheme estimates the mean and variance of the received power level measured at the base station before assigning a traffic channel for a new call request. The BS makes decision based on the estimated balues whether the new call request will be accepted or not. If it is decided that the capacity of reverse radio link is enough, but all traffic channels are not available, then the BS increases the soft handoff parameter T_DROP to release the traffic channels of mobile stations loactedin soft handoff area. The BS assigns the released traffic channel to anew call or a handoff call. The performance of the proposed channel assignment scheme is evaluated by computer simulation. The results show that the call blocking rate for new calls and handoff calls is reduced.

  • Wildlife ecologists and biologists recapture deer to collect tracking data from deer collars or wait for a drop-off of a deer collar construction that is automatically detached and disconnected. The research teams need to manage a base camp with medical trailers, helicopters, and airplanes to capture deer or wait for several months until the deer collar drops off of the deer's neck. We propose an intelligent robust base-station research with a low-cost and time saving method to obtain recording sensor data from their collars to a listener node, and readings are obtained without opening the weatherproof deer collar. We successfully designed the and implemented a robust base station system for automatically collecting data of the collars and listener motes in harsh wilderness environments. Intelligent solutions were also analyzed for improved data collections and pattern predictions with drone-based detection and tracking algorithms.
