In this study a 3-component rotating balance, which is designed to measure the thrust (Fz) and two moment components (Mx, My) simultaneously for a rotor test jig, is designed and its performance is validated experimentally. The low voltage signal from the strain gages mounted on the balance is amplified with a rotating amplifier, which is then fed through a slip-ring unit into the data acquisition system. In order to validate the accuracy of the calibration matrix obtained from a static calibration test, an additional reaction type balance is used to measure the thrust from a model rotor simultaneously, and shows very good result. Finally, the expanded uncertainty value, which is obtained from ISO method is estimated to be $2.82\times10^{-1}$, and the balance turns out to be reliable.

A Quad Tilt Wing UAV is a new concept hybrid UAV having the advantages of both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. This paper presents longitudinal flight dynamic characteristics of a Quad Tilt Wing UAV. The designed Quad Tilt Wing UAV is a configuration of a tandem wing type aircraft with an actuating motor and propeller mounted at each wing. Momentum theory is used to calculate the thrust, and nonlinear modeling is performed considering lift and drag generated by slip stream effect of propellers. Also, Force and moment variation at each tilting angle is considered. Static trim on longitudinal axis is analyzed via numerical simulation. Componentwise force contribution was analyzed at each trim mode. Dynamic characteristics were evaluated through eigenvalue analysis for a linear model at each flight mode. It is verified that longitudinal dynamic characteristics are changing from unstable to stable state by continuous transition of dominant poles.

To evaluate structural safety factor of the jet vane for the thrust deflection system under the dynamic pressure and very high temperature(2700$^{\circ}C$ ) of the combustion gas flow, the high temperature tension tests of refractory metals and 3-D nonlinear numerical simulations are performed. Through the analysis of high temperature structure behavior for jet vane, the structure safety of jet vane is evaluated, and numerical results are compared with static ground tests of jet vanes. It has been found that most of structural and thermal loading is concentrated on the vane shaft which worked as safe under 1400$^{\circ}C$. From the comparison of static ground tests and numerical results, the evaluation criterion using the vane load and shaft displacement is more useful to estimate the structural safety than using the equivalent stress.

Modern advanced-turboprop propellers are required to have high structural strength to cope with the thrust requirement at high speed. The high stiffness and strength carbon/epoxy composite material is used for the major structure and skin-spar-foam sandwich structural type is adopted for advantage in terms of the blade weight. As a design procedure for the present study, the structural design load is estimated through investigation on aerodynamic load and then flanges of spars from major bending loads and the skin from shear loads are sized using the netting rule and Rule of Mixture. In order to investigate the structural safety and stability, stress analysis is performed by finite element analysis code MSC. NASTRAN. It is found that current methodology of composite structure design is a valid method through the static structural test of prototype blade.

It needed the calculation of the required tugboat's power to move the damaged vessel to the safe area for reducing the additional damages. In this paper, it was verified the theoretical calculation method on the required power of tugboat through the 93m real ship tests. From the experiments, it was considered that the theoretical calculation method was sufficient to estimate the required power of tugboat. The resistance of the locked propeller was relatively big portions compared with other static resistances such as air resistance, frictional resistance and residual resistance. And dynamic resistance induced by swing movement and yawing was continuously occurred and it also was great effects on the total resistance. In the future, the safety factor will be considered and the exact prediction of ship's resistance will enhance the efficiency of tugboat because of the minimization of safety factor.

In this study, numerical simulations were performed to investigate the steady-state characteristics of a symmetric pintle nozzle by varying the position of the pintle and the altitude. The pintle nozzle shape was used in a linear pintle nozzle that had been analyzed prior to the study, and the boundary conditions of the chamber were considered to be according to the propellant burn-back characteristics. A software was used to perform a verification analysis of the square nozzle, pintle nozzle, and high-altitude conditions with an appropriate analytical technique. The pintle position had three different nozzle throat area conditions-: fully closed, half open, and fully open, and the altitude was set at 0, 5, and 20 km. The study compared the thrust, pintle drive load, and static stability at each condition.

The INHA Rocket Research Institute changed the Ceramic nozzle material of their developed Solid Composite Propellant Motor with Teflon nozzle material. Static firings of the new Solid Rocket Motors was conducted on Thurst Tester to validate the increase in performance. The new enhanced Solid Roket Motor increased the total impulse by 18.3 percent while improving its reliability. The new process of manufacture reduced the time to produce a nozzle.

The rocket motor of the space launch vehicle offers thrust for satellite to enter into the orbit. Characters of the solid propellant for rocket motors are affected by the space conditions such as vacuum and space radiation. The solid propellant used for such a purpose should not undergo physical, internal ballistic and energetic changes when exposed to vacuum and space radiation. This study describes the development of the solid propellant composition for the rocket motor of the space launch vehicle. Also, experimental study was conducted on supersonic diffuser in order to verify the performance of the solid propellant composition which was applied to standard motor on the ground in the vacuum condition.
Ejector system is one of fluid machinery which can entrain the fluid in low pressure part and transport it to the higher pressure part. The ejector system has been widely used for the purpose of obtaining high-vacuum state, fluid transport, thrust augmentation, etc. It can transport a large capacity of fluid with relatively small device of no any moving parts, and thus seldom causes mechanical troubles. However, the conventional ejector system has been pointed out that its overall efficiency is quite low compared with other fluid machinery since it is derived by only the pure shear stresses. In the present study, 4, 6, and 8 lobed petal nozzles with a design Mach number of 1.7 are adopted as a primary nozzle to improve the ejector performance, and are compared with a conventional circular nozzle. The static pressures along the diffuser wall are measured to qualify the flow field inside the supersonic petal ejector system.

Recently, several attempts have been made to apply high Tc superconductor bearings of thrust type to flywheel energy storage system (FESS) throughout the world. Radial type superconductor bearings, however, have never been tried to the real FESS. KEPRI has developed its own radial type bearings and is now currently applying them to a FESS designed by KIMM, for the first time. In this paper preliminary test results of bearing performance and dynamic behavior of the flywheel rotor system mounted on them are presented. The dynamic properties, i.e, stiffness and damping, of the superconductor bearings were experimentally estimated using the static loading test as well as the impact test. The test revealed that stiffness value of the present superconductor bearings is about 67,700N/m and the damping value 29Ns/m. It was also found out that these bearings have some levitation drift problems due to excessive vibrations encountered while passing through the critical speeds. With recommend backup bearings to limit the vibration amplitudes of the rotor it is predicted that the flywheel rotor will show stable operations in the design speed range.
