  • This paper presents an optimal design of magnetorheological(MR) damper based on analytical methodology and finite element analysis. The proposed MR damper consists of MR valve and gas chamber. The MR valve is constrained in a specific volume and the optimization problem identifies geometric dimensions of the valve structure that maximize the pressure drop of the MR valve or damping force of the MR damper. In this work, the single-coil annular MR valve structure is considered. After describing the schematic configuration and operating principle of MR valve and damper, a quasi-static model is derived based on Bingham model of MR fluid. The magnetic circuit of the valve and damper is then analyzed by applying the Kirchoff’s law and magnetic flux conservation rule. Based on the quasi-static modeling and the magnetic circuit analysis, the optimization problem of the MR valve and damper is built. The optimal solution of the optimization problem of the MR valve structure constrained in a specific volume is then obtained and compared with the solution obtained from finite element method.

  • In recent years, the development of new technologies using static magnetic fields has increased the possibility of human exposure to these fields and raised some concern as to their possible health effects. In several countries, governmental or other competent authorities have issued exposure limits that are mainly intended for specific uses, i.e., magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and particle accelerators for high-energy Physics. Since applications of magnetic fields in industry and medicine are likely to grow in the future, thus increasing the possibility of occupational and general public exposure, and since the number of people with ferromagnetic implants and implanted electronic devices that can be affected by the fields is growing, there is a need for international guidelines. In the present papers, guidelines on limits of exposure to static magnetic fields are selected and discussed in order to review the guidelines of the International Non-ionizing Radiation Committee of the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA/INIRC) for non-ionizing radiation(NIR)

  • Purpose: Dimensions of body RF coil composed of 4 rectangular loops for low field open MRI hav been optimized. The design result shows the field inhomogeneity of B1 field below 1.5 dB in the 25 cm DSV can be achieved. Method: Our low field RF coil is composed of 4 rectangular strip loops that assumed to b located at both the bottom and top sides of permanent magnet. All the loops have identica dimensions and current amplitude. First, the inductance of a loop is calculated. Second, the current distribution on the coil strip is calculated by using finite difference time doma method (FDTD). It takes as much as 4 days in FDTD simulation for low frequency RF field That's why the electrical dipole radiation method is used for simulation. With the curren distribution obtained using the FDTD simulation, for various dimensional parameters th magnetic field has been calculated by electric dipole radiation method, where the curren elements are regarded as electric dipole radiation sources. The field pattern from electri dipole radiation is almost same as that from FDTD simulation. Also, it is same as that fro the result using the Viot-Savart equation, for far tone radiation term becomes zero and th Bl field amplitude of near one radiation is the same as the B field due to static current The field homogeneity is calculated in the 25 cm BSV.

  • Buckling and post-buckling behaviors of geometrically perfect double-curvature shells made from smart composites have been investigated. The shell has been supposed to be exposed to transverse mechanical loading and magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) coupling. The composite shell has been made of two constituents which are piezoelectric and magnetic ingredients. Thus, the elastic properties might be variable based upon the percentages of the constituents. Incorporating small scale impacts in regard to nonlocal theory leads to the establishment of the governing equations for the double-curvature nanoshell. Such nanoshell stability will be shown to be affected by composite ingredients. More focus has been paid to the effects of small scale factor, electric voltage and magnetic intensity on stability curves of the nanoshell.

  • An experimental study of the characteristics of the repulsiveytype magnetic bearing using high Tc superconductor is presented. In field cooling superconductor has the position-stability due to a flux pinning effect and the strong damping due to hysterisis, while in zero field cooling it has the only strong repulsive force due to Meissner effect. Lift force in superconducting levitation has a hysterisis characteristics, and it is the dissipation of energy, the mechanism of damping. As the relative linear velocity between a magnet and a superconductor increases, the area of the hysterisis loop becomes smaller. It means the decrease of damping. In field cooling, the static stiffness is very nonlinear in smaller than initial gap, but almost linear in larger than initial gap.

  • Monte Carlo calculations were performed to demonstrate the dose modulation with dynamic magnetic fields in phantom. The goal of this study is to obtain the uniform dose distributions at a depth region as a target on the central axis of photon beam under moving transverse magnetic field. We have calculated the depth dose curves for two cases of moving magnetic field along a depth line, constant speed and optimal speed. We introduced step-by-step shift and time factor of the position of the electromagnet as an approximations of continuous moving. The optimal time factors as a function of magnetic field position were calculated by least square methods using depth dose data for static magnetic field. We have verified that the flat depth dose is produced by varying the speed of magnetic field as a function of position as a results of Monte Carlo calculations. For 3 T magnetic field, the dose enhancement was 10.1% in comparison to without magnetic field at the center of the target.

  • This study tries to analyzes the static friction torque that generated in a micro-electromagnetic clutch by using FEM. For the purpose of design change and optimization of the micro-electromagnetic clutch, the static friction torque prediction is very important. We construct the axi symmetric FEM model for analyze the static friction torque and the real material properties are substituted to the FEM model. For a test, predicted static friction torque is compared with experimental one to discuss the rationality of torque analysis process. The analytical result agrees well to experimental data. explaining the validity of the mathematical process and FEM model.
