  • Presented is a nonlinear constitutive theory which can model the behavior of concrete under dynamic tensile loads. The microcrack plane theory is introduced to describe the static tensile behavior of concrete. The affinity transformation is then employed to include the effects of strain rate due to the dynamic tensile loads. The comparisons are made with the dynamic tensile test data available in the literature. An equation is proposed to predict the strength gain due to the dynamic tensile loads. The theory allows more realistic dynamic finite element analysis of concrete structures.

  • Self-piercing riveting (SPR) process is gaining popularity due to its many advantages. The SPR does not require a pre-drilled hole and has capability to join a wide range of similar or dissimilar materials and combinations of materials. This study investigated the fatigue strength of self-piercing rivet joint with aluminum alloy (Al-5052) and steel (SPCC) sheets. Static and fatigue tests on tensile-shear specimens were conducted. From the static strength aspect, the optimal punching force for the specimen with upper SPCC (U.S) sheet and lower aluminum alloy(L.A) sheets was 34 kN. During static test the specimens fractured in pull-out fracture mode due to influence of plastic deformation of joining area. There was a relationship between applied load amplitude $P_{amp}$ and number of cycles N ; $P_{amp}=19588N_f^{-0.211}$ and $P_{amp}=4885N_f^{-0.083}$ for U.S-L.A and U.A-L.S specimens, respectively. U.A-L.S fatigue specimens failed due to fretting crack initiation around the rivet neck between upper and lower sheets.

  • An unbonded post-tensioned anchor using a 15.2 mm diameter 7-wire strand was developed based on finite element analysis and experimental testing. In order to evaluate its performance, static load tests and load transfer tests were conducted following KCI-PS101. The static load tests and additional strand tensile tests confirmed that the developed anchor had a capacity more than nominal tensile strength of a 7-wire strand without any damage or deterioration. According to the result of load transfer tests for many different reinforcing details, specimens with no additional reinforcing bars sustained at least 1.64 times the nominal tensile strength of the strand.

  • In the case of a crack propagation, a portion of the work of inelastic deformation near the crack tip is dissipated as heat. In order to understand the thermal effect on fracture toughness, tensile test was carried out using thermocouples to monitor the variation of temperature with SA516 Gr70. The experimental results show that the temperature of specimen was increased $3.6^{\circ}C$ at static load condition. And the thermal effect was investigated connected with the steady-state stress in the vicinity of a crack propagation in the elastic-plastic C-T specimen theoretically. And fracture toughness, the energy to make crack surfaces, presented correctively. The fracture toughness with considering heat at the blunting of the crack tip ws lower about 19.3% than that of ignoring heat. So, it is resonable to apply the fracture toughness with considering thermal energy and it would be good explanation for constraint effect depending on the configuration in the presence of excessive plasticity.

  • In this study, the tensile and compressive tests of glass fiber epoxy composites were performed to measure the strength variation with respect to strain rates of 1-200 $\textrm{sec}^{-1}$. In addition, tensile and compressive tests of 50-200 $\textrm{sec}^{-1}$ strain rates were conducted at a low temperature ($-60^{\circ}C$) to investigate the effects of temperature on the strength variation. From the test results, it was found that the tensile and compressive strengths increased about 100% and 70%, respectively, at the strain rates of 10-100 $\textrm{sec}^{-1}$ compared to the quasi-static strengths while the strengths were little affected by the environmental temperature variation.

  • Recently, steel-concrete composite slab decks have been widely used as highway bridge decks. In the construction of the composite slab decks, it is necessary to join two adjacent blocked bottom plates to form one unite in the longitudinal direction. In this paper, several types of longitudinal direction joints for Robinson type composite slab decks ared proposed herein and static bending test are carried out by using slab specimens. And the stress and deformation of the tensile grip connection with high strength bolts are discussed by using three-dimensional elastic-plastic FEM.

  • In this research, a basis test on steel fiber concrete's material property was carried out and optimum design as well as material property was examined. In corroboration of it, the compressive strength was compared with the tensile strength and this paper tried to get the initial load of flexural cracking and the ultimate load in the positive-negative moment section through the static test of beam. The addition rate of the steel fiber, 0.75 SFRC specimen was failed at $65{\sim}75%$ of the static ultimate strength and it could be concluded that fatigue strength to two million cycle was around 75.2%.

  • In this study, the full scale testing method of the geogrid-reiuorced soil Segmental Retaining Walll(SRW) under the simulated train loading were proposed in order to evaluate the applicability of reinforced soil SRW in railway embankment. The train loading was simulated by the design static wheel load and the impact coefficient due to the train passing velocity. This test was focused on the static performance of reinforced soil SRW in terms of the following measuring systems ; the horizontal earth pressure displacement acting on the facing block and the tensile strain along the geogrid. The data gathered from this full scale testing was compared with numerical analysis results by FLAC.

  • The objective of the current study is to characterize the long-term stability and efficacy of a structural adhesive assembly under static load. An apparatus was designed to be used in the Instron tensile test machine that would allow for real time modeling of the failure characteristics of an assembly utilizing a moisture- cure adhesive which was bonded to concrete. A regression model was developed that followed a linear - natural log function which was used to predict the expected life of the assembly. Evaluations at different curing times confirmed the structure was more robust with longer cure durations prior to loading. Finally, the results show that under the conditions the assembly was tested, there was only a small amount of inelastic creep and the regression models demonstrated the potential for a stable structure lasting several decades.

  • In this study, in order to improve the splice performance of mechanical couplers, two new mechanical couplers with different connection modes were developed with rebar(SD400). The stress analysis of mechanical couplers with two different connection modes was carried out. Uniaxial tensile tests were carried out with type of steel, connection mode and the slope length of internal fastener as variables to analyze the influence on the maximum tensile strength. Building upon this previous work, the specimens that met the code in uniaxial tensile test were fabricated and static loading test and cyclic loading test were performed on the basis of Korean code(KS D 0249). The results of this research are as follows; (1) The tensile strength of steel and the slope length of internal fasteners have a certain influence on the maximum tensile strength. (2) The connection mode has some influence on the stiffness, slip and stiffness reduction rate of the connecting rebars. The results verify the feasibility of the proposed enhanced mechanical coupler in the field.
