The research study is focuses on a form of all-bolted joint with the external ring stiffening plate in the prefabricated steel structure. The components are bolted at site after being fabricated in the factory. Six specimens were tested under cyclic loading, and the effects of column axial compression ratio, concrete-filled column, beam flange sub plate, beam web angle cleats, and spliced column on the failure mode, hysteretic behavior and ductility of the joints were analyzed. The results shown that the proposed all-bolted joint with external ring stiffening plate performed high bearing capability, stable inflexibility degradation, high ductility and plump hysteretic curve. The primary failure modes were bucking at beam end, cracking at the variable section of the external ring stiffening plate, and finally welds fracturing between external ring stiffening plate and column wall. The bearing capability of the joints reduced with the axial compression ratio increased. The use of concrete-filled steel tube column can increase the bearing capability of joints. The existence of the beam flange sub plate, and beam web angle cleat improves the energy dissipation, ductility, bearing capacity and original rigidity of the joint, but also increase the stress concentration at the variable section of the external reinforcing ring plate. The proposed joints with spliced column also performed desirable integrity, large bearing capacity, initial stiffness and energy dissipation capacity for engineering application by reasonable design.
Steel cables as the most important components are widely used in the certain types of structures such as cable-supported bridges, but the long-span structures may result in an increase in fatigue under high stress and corrosion of steel cables. The traditional steel cable is becoming a more evident hindrance. Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) cables with lightweight, high-strength are widely used in civil engineering, but there is little research in vibrational characteristics of FRP cables, especially on the damping characteristic. This article studied the two methods to evaluate dynamical damping characteristic of basalt FRP(BFRP) and glass FRP(GFRP) cables. First, the vibration tests of the B/G FRP cables with different diameter and different cable force were executed. Second, the cables forces were calculated using dynamic strain, static strain and dynamic acceleration respectively, which were further compared with the measured force. Third, experimental modal damping of each cables was calculated by the half power point method, and was compared with the calculation by Rayleigh damping theory and energy dissipation damping theory. The results indicate that (1) The experimental damping of FRP cables decreases with the increase of cable force, and the trend of experimental damping changes is roughly similar with the theoretical damping. (2) The distribution of modal damping calculated by Rayleigh damping theory is closer to the experimental results, and the damping performance of GFRP cables is better than BFRP cables.

In this paper, an exact analytical solution is developed for the analysis of the post-buckling non-linear response of simply supported deformable symmetric composite beams. For this, a new theory of higher order shear deformation is used for the analysis of composite beams in post-buckling. Unlike any other shear deformation beam theories, the number of functions unknown in the present theory is only two as the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, while three unknowns are needed in the case of the other beam theories. The theory presents a parabolic distribution of transverse shear stresses, which satisfies the nullity conditions on both sides of the beam without a shear correction factor. The shear effect has a significant contribution to buckling and post-buckling behaviour. The results of this analysis show that classical and first-order theories underestimate the amplitude of the buckling whereas all the theories considered in this study give results very close to the static response of post-buckling. The numerical results obtained with the novel theory are not only much more accurate than those obtained using the Euler-Bernoulli theory but are almost comparable to those obtained using higher order theories, Accuracy and effectiveness of the current theory.
The building structure is planned to maximize the use of space in recent. It was developed of a hybrid OCB (Optimized Composite Beam) for trying to take advantage of the maximize space. The OCB is composed of the steel h-beam section reinforced by open strands in negative moment zone and the psc concrete section in positive zone. Flexural behaviors of typical architectural bybrid OCB section was investigated. The 15 m OCB specimen was tested under three point static loading system. Following results are obtained from the tests; 1) The OCB with 15 m span develop initial flexural crackings under the 171% of full service loading. 2) Overall deflections of OCB under the service loads are less than those of the allowable limit in KCI Code provision. 3) The crack patterns, failure mode and ultimate load capacity of test specimen and F.E. model in this paper and they are compared to each other. The OCB is verified of structural reliability from the experimental results.
This study had the purpose of presenting a residential environment solution as a desirable educational environment for middle school students to grow soundly and to achieve proper self-realization while providing basic materials to build up a suitable residential environment by comparing and analyzing what relationships exist between different home backgrounds, residential environments and middle school students' social maturity. This research was conducted from Feb. 11, 2008 to Feb. 13, 2008. The subject of this research was 601 students in 3 middle schools located in Gyunggi-do. The data analyzed used the SPSS 11.5 version. The summary of this study's results is as follows. First, in terms of home background, the higher the parents' educational background and social and economic position, the greater the students' social maturity. Second, in terms of home environment, the more spacious the living space, the better the water and sewage system and rest room, the more convenient the air conditioner and kitchen system, the better the lighting, ventilation, soundproofness, insulation, the less the danger in relation to fire, crime, traffic accidents, disaster, the greater the students' social maturity. Third, in terms of the home environment related to the correlation between the residential environment and social maturity, all areas such as housing facilities, housing structural environment and housing safety showed static correlations and proved that the residential environment has an important influence on social maturity. Accordingly, in order to build up an ideal residential environment, we should make efforts to expand and improve better facilities at home considering privacy, lighting, ventilation, soundproofness, heating etc. and remove unsound factors that obstruct students social maturity and build up clean and safe residential environment with good relations with their neighbors.
In this paper, we developed the direct numerical simulation(DNS) model considering the geometry of yams which consist of 3D orthogonal woven composite materials, and using this model, the dynamic behavior of under transverse low-velocity impact has been studied. To build up the micromechanical model considering tow spacing and waviness, an accurate unit structure is presented and used in building structural plate model based on DNS. For comparison, DNS results are compared with those of the micromechanical approach which is based on the global equivalent material properties obtained by DNS static numerical tests. The effects with yarn geometrical irregularities which are difficult to consider in a macroscopic approach are also investigated by the DNS model. Finally, the multiscale model based on the DNS concepts is developed to enhance efficiency of analysis with real sized numerical specimen and macro/micro characteristics are presented.

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the static behavior of a horizontally curved prestressed concrete (PSC) girder. A 30m long full-scale curved PSC girder with 80.0m radius is fabricated by a portable curved form system. Deflections and concrete strains at the middle of span were measured. The obtained experimental results have been compared to those from F.E.A. analysis. When a initial crack developed, the applied load was 1.3 times the service design load and the vertical deflection at the middle of span satisfied the requirement for a live load state according to the Korea Bridge Design Specifications (2010). Also, the ductility of the full scale specimen satisfied the limit in the Specifications (2010). To verify the experimental results, a numerical F.E. analysis was carried and confirmed that the data were similar with results from the test above. The horizontally curved PSC girder fabricated on site was found to have enough strength for safety under and after construction.

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the static behavior of a prestressed concrete (PSC) girder using pre-tension method. A 30m long full-scale pretension PSC girder is fabricated by the portable fabrication system and tested. All results have been compared to those obtained from F.E.A results. Deflections at the middle of girders have been measured for evaluation. Also, strains of concrete at the middle of span have been measured. From the results of experimental, the load when initial crack was developed was obtained to be 1.75 time the unfactered design load in the full-scale girder specimen. Also, the data of specimen are satisfied the desgin requirements of ductility on the Korea Bridge Design Specification(2010). In service state, the vertical deflection at center of test specimen when a initial crack was developed is satisfied the vertical deflection requirement under live load of the Korea Bridge Design Specification(2010). To verify the experimental results, we numerical analyze the test and confirmed that the data were similar with results from the test above. The pretension girder fabricated in site were found to have enough strength for safety under and after construction.

The automation technology for overlay welding is needed due to the occurrence of severe corrosion and abrasion on the surface of internal contact in different shape of fittings. In Korea, different shapes of fittings have been manufactured by using the imported equipment of overlay welding automation at some companies. Thus the research on the development of overlay welding automation system (in short, OWAS) for a large L-type tube is urgently needed. In this paper, the investigation is focused on the optimal design of a supporting base for the (currently developing) OWAS of large L-type tube. Specifically we assume that the base which supports the equipment during the process of overlay welding is loaded as self-weight in the direction of gravity through static analysis especially when it is rotated 180 degree on the OWAS. For optimal design of a supporting base for OWAS of large L-type tube, Solidworks(R) (for 3-dimensional modelling) and ANASYS Workbench(R) (for structural analysis) are incorporated so as to proceed an optimization routines based on Response Surface Method (RSM) and Design of Experiment (DOE). In more specific, DOE finds out major factors (or dimensions) of the supporting base by using MINITAB(R). Then the regression equations between design variables (the major factors of supporting base) and response variables (deformation, stress and safety factor for the supporting base), which will be resulted in by RSM, verify the major factors of DOE. In the next step, Central Composite Design (CCD) plans 20 simulations of ANASYS Workbench(R) and then figures out the optimal values of design variables which will be reflected on the manufacturing of supporting base. Finally welding experiment is conducted to figure out the influence of overlay welding quality in applying the optimized design values of supporting base to the actual OWAS.
Sweating, which is the excretion of oil on the surface of a solid product containing several kinds of pigments in oil and is also solidified with wax, is a unique phenomenon often observed on the surface of cover make-up or lipstick. The cause of sweating is an imbalanced formula. Many studies have been conducted to decrease the symptoms of sweating in the field of cosmetics. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is a thermo-analytical technique that measures the amount of heat required to increase the temperature of a sample as a function of temperature or time under certain conditions. DSC has been used to determine the thermal properties of oil/wax structures. This study investigates how the thermal characteristics correlate with the sweating symptoms. An oil/wax formulation with an optimal melting point was studied in an attempt to make a stable product by considering the thermal properties that represent minimal structural changes with temperature variation. In addition, the sweating of the oil/wax formulation was observed over a various temperature range. As a result, it was found that sweating was minimized when the structure remained static or little bit changed over a variety of temperatures.
