In order to predict properly the effects of ground motion associated wi th earthquakes on underground radioactive waste disposal facilities, understanding of the structural behavior of an underground opening in discontinuous rook masses subjected to dynamic loadings is essential. Therefore, this paper includes literature review on computational models for discontinuous rook masses and on mathematical models for the structural analysis of underground openings. Then, structural analyses of underground openings using the distinct element computer program written for the static and dynamic analysis of discontinuous rook masses have been performed.

An undergraduate course named computational structural analysis becomes more significant in recent years because of its important role in industries and the recent innovation in computer technology. Typically, the course consists of introduction to finite element method, utilization of general purpose finite element software, and examples focusing on static and linear analyses on various structural members such as a beam, truss, frame, arch, and cable. However, in addition to the static and linear analyses, current industries ask graduates to acquire basic knowledge on structural dynamics and nonlinear analysis, which are not listed in the conventional syllabus of the computational structural analysis. Therefore, this study develops geometrically nonlinear examples, which can help students to easily capture the fundamental nonlinear theory, software manipulation, and problem solving skills. For the purpose, five different examples are found, developed for the analyses of cables and cable nets, which naturally have strong geometrical non-linearity. In the paper, these examples are presented, discussed, and finally compared for a better subject development.

In this paper, 6 span SCP continuous girder bridge's structural behavior were studied by analytic and experimental method To study structural behavior of SCP girder, we used PSC theory and steel girder theory. To examine slab concrete crack, concrete stress, and fatigue stress of steel, we achieved a static load and fatigue test. In the result, 6 span SCP girder bridge connected at the interior support about actuality bridge have enough structural capacity under service loads.

In the framework of the SPEAR (Seismic PErformance Assessment and Rehabilitation) research Project, an under-designed three storey RC frame structure, designed to sustain only gravity loads, was subjected, in three different configurations 'as-built', Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) retrofitted and rehabilitated by reinforced concrete (RC) jacketing, to a series of bi-directional pseudodynamic (PsD) tests under different values of peak ground acceleration (PGA) (from a minimum of 0.20g to a maximum of 0.30g). The seismic deficiencies exhibited by the 'as-built' structure after the test at PGA level of 0.20g were confirmed by a post - test assessment of the structural seismic capacity performed by a nonlinear static pushover analysis implemented on the structure lumped plasticity model. To improve the seismic performance of the 'as-built' structure', two rehabilitation interventions by using either FRP laminates or RC jacketing were designed. Assumptions for the analytical modeling, design criteria and calculation procedures along with local and global intervention measures and their installation details are herein presented and discussed. Nonlinear static pushover analyses for the assessment of the theoretical seismic capacity of the structure in each retrofitted configuration were performed and compared with the experimental outcomes.
Nonlinear Static Procedures (NSPs) have been developed as a practical tool to estimate the seismic demand of structures. Several researches have accomplished to minimize errors of NSPs, namely pushover procedures, in the Nonlinear Time History Analysis (NTHA), as the most exact method. The most important issue in a typical pushover procedure is the pattern and technique of loading which are extracted based on structural dynamic fundamentals. In this paper, the coefficients of modal force combination is focused involving a meta-heuristic optimization algorithm to find the optimum load pattern which results in a response with minimum amount of errors in comparison to the NTHA counterpart. Other parameters of the problem are based on the FEMA recommendations for pushover analysis of building structures. The proposed approach is implemented on a high-rise 20 storey concrete moment resisting frame under three earthquake records. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the studied procedure the results are presented beside other well-known pushover methods such as MPA and the FEMA procedures, and the results show the efficiency of the proposed load patterns.
A novel probabilistic approach is presented for estimating the equivalent static wind loads that produce a static response of the structure, which is "equivalent" in a probabilistic sense, to the extreme dynamic responses due to the unsteady pressure random field induced by the wind. This approach has especially been developed for complex structures (such as stadium roofs) for which the unsteady pressure field is measured in a boundary layer wind tunnel with a turbulent incident flow. The proposed method deals with the non-Gaussian nature of the unsteady pressure random field and presents a model that yields a good representation of both the quasi-static part and the dynamical part of the structural responses. The proposed approach is experimentally validated with a relatively simple application and is then applied to a stadium roof structure for which experimental measurements of unsteady pressures have been performed in boundary layer wind tunnel.

In this paper, the non-linear static analysis of Timoshenko nanobeams consisting of bi-directional functionally graded material (BFGM) with immovable ends is investigated. The scratching in the FG nanobeam mid-plane, is the source of nonlinearity of the bending problems. The nonlocal theory is used to investigate the non-linear static deflection of nanobeam. In order to simplify the formulation, the problem formulas is derived according to the physical middle surface. The Hamilton principle is employed to determine governing partial differential equations as well as boundary conditions. Moreover, the differential quadrature method (DQM) and direct iterative method are applied to solve governing equations. Present results for non-linear static deflection were compared with previously published results in order to validate the present formulation. The impacts of the nonlocal factors, beam length and material property gradient on the non-linear static deflection of BFG nanobeams are investigated. It is observed that these parameters are vital in the value of the non-linear static deflection of the BFG nanobeam.
The quasi-static and dynamic responses of a linear viscoelastic circular beam on Winkler foundation are studied numerically by using the mixed finite element method in transformed Laplace-Carson space. This element VCR12 has 12 independent variables. The solution is obtained in transformed space and Schapery, Dubner, Durbin and Maximum Degree of Precision (MDOP) transform techniques are employed for numerical inversion. The performance of the method is presented by several quasi-static and dynamic example problems.

This paper deals with the static optimal shapes of simple beams which are subjected to a vertical point load. The area and second moment of inertia of the regular polygon cross-section of the tapered beams are determined, which have always same volume and same length for the parabolic taper. The differential equation governing the elastic curve is derived using the small deflection theory and solved numerically. By using the numerical results of deflections, rotations and bending stresses of such beams, the optimal shapes, namely, optimal section ratios, of the beams subjected to a single point load according to variation of load position parameters are determined and presented in the figures. Examples of the static optimal shapes for beams with a single load and multiple loads are reported. The design process of this study can be used directly for the minimum weight design of simple beams.
This paper presents a multimodal adaptive nonlinear static method of analysis that, differently from the nonlinear static methods suggested in seismic codes, does not require the definition of the equivalent Single-Degree-Of-Freedom (SDOF) system to evaluate the seismic response of structures. First, the proposed method is formulated for the assessment of r.c. plane frames and then it is extended to 3D framed structures. Furthermore, the proposed nonlinear static approach is re-elaborated as a displacement-based design method that does not require the use of the behaviour factor and takes into account explicitly the plastic deformation capacity of the structure. Numerical applications to r.c. plane frames and to a 3D framed structure with inplan irregularity are carried out to illustrate the attractive features as well as the limitations of the proposed method. Furthermore, the numerical applications evidence the uncertainty about the suitability of the displacement demand prediction obtained by the nonlinear static methods commonly adopted.
