The rotating bogie frame is used in the bogie for a Light Rail Train under development in Korea. In development of the bogie, the structural strength and fatigue characteristics of the rotating bogie frame have been evaluated under the predefined load cases according to the Korean standards for a urban EMU. No part of the rotating bogie frame was subjected to stress beyond the fatigue endurance limits of the material used when grinding the welding of the lower plate link. It is concluded that the rotating bogie frame is safe in view of its static and fatigure strength.
The analysis of static and dynamic characteristics of reinforced roadbed materials was performed through model and laboratory tests. The strength characteristic of reinforced roadbed materials such as HMS-25 and soil were investigated through the unconfined axial compression test, the model soil box test and the combined resonant column and torsional shear test. The unconfined axial compression strength of HMS-25 shows a steady increasement in strength due to the chemical hardening reaction between HMS-25 and water. The result of model soil box test reveals that railroad roadbed of HMS-25 is better than that of soil in several aspects, such as, bearing capacity and settlement. The combined resonant column and torsional shear test result indicates that shear modulus of HMS-25 and soil increase with the power of 0.5 to the confining pressure and linear relationship to normalized shear modulus and damping ratio.
Among all the natural disasters, earthquakes are the most destructive calamities since they cause a plenty of injuries and economic losses leaving behind a series of signs of panic. The present study highlights the moment-curvature relationships for the structural elements such as beam and column elements and Non-Linear Static Pushover Analysis of RC frame structures since it is a very simplified procedure of non-linear static analysis. The highly popular model namely Mander's model and Kent and Park model are considered and then, seismic risk evaluation of RC building has been conducted using SAP 2000 version 17 treating uncertainty in strength as a parameter. From the obtained capacity and demand curves, the performance level of the structure has been defined. The seismic fragility curves were developed for the variations in the material strength and damage state threshold are calculated. Also the comparison of experimental and analytical results has been conducted.
A three-dimensional panel system, which was offered as a new method for construction in Jordan using relatively high strength modular panels for walls and ceilings, is investigated in this paper. The panel consists of two steel meshes on both sides of an expanded polystyrene core and connected together with a truss wire to provide a 3D system. The top face of the ceiling panel was pored with regular concrete mix, while the bottom face and both faces of the wall panels were cast by shotcreting (dry process). To investigate the structural performance of this system, an extensive experimental testing program for ceiling and wall panels subjected to static and dynamic loadings was conducted. The load-deflection curves were obtained for beam and shear wall elements and wall elements under transverse and axial loads, respectively. Static and dynamic analyses were conducted, and the performance of the proposed structural system was evaluated and compared with a typical three dimensional reinforced concrete frame system for buildings of the same floor areas and number of floors. Compressive strength capacity of a ceiling panel is determined for gravity loads, while flexural capacity is determined under the effect of wind and seismic loading. It was found that, the strength and serviceability requirements could be easily satisfied for buildings constructed using the three-dimensional panel system. The 3D panel system is superior to that of conventional frame system in its dynamic performance, due to its high stiffness to mass ratio.
This study was carried out to determine the suitability of 3 months old bamboo species of Phyllostachys bambusoides S. et Z., Phyllostachys Pubescens Mazel and Phyllostachys nigra var henonis Stapf as raw materials for the manufacture of strandboard. Total of 108 strandboards were made using urea-formaldehyde resin content level of 12% and one percent of liquid wax emulsion. The strandboard consisted of three layers the top and the bottom layer of which were oriented to the same direction and weighted 25% of the strandboard each. The middle core layer weighed 50% of the board and was perpendicular to the outer top and bottom layers. Analysis was performed to determine the effect of strand lengths and Uowing years of 3 months, 2 years and 3 years on strandboard properties. The physical and mechanical properties of bamboo species and boards were measured and compared to the standard requirements of strandboards. The results are as follows; 1. The more the growing years the higher the density of bamboo. Top part of bamboo indicated higher density value than that of bottom part. 2. Bamboo showed higher static bending strength compared to the main wood species. Longer growing years of bamboo generally inclosed the static tending strength out there were no statistical significancies for Phyllostachys bmbusoides S. et Z. and Phyllostachys pubescens Mazel. 3. Strand length indicated no difference on density and moisture content of strandboard. 5 cm of strand length gave the best static bending strength and internal bonding strength. Bamboo strandboard exhibited lesser extents of thickness swelling than that of CSA standard. 4. 3 months old bamboo gave higher static bending strength of strandboard than those of 2 years and 3 years old bamboo. In case of Phyllostachys nigra var henonis Stapf, 3 months old bamboo indicated higher internal bonding strength than those of 2 years and 3years old bamboo. but in Phyllostachys bambusoides S. et Z., Phyllostachys pubescens Mazel, there were no difference among growing years. Growing years showed no different physical properties of bamboo strandboard.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of mobilization of the sciatic nerve on hamstring flexibility, lower limb strength, and gait performance in patients with chronic stroke. This study was a randomized clinical trial with a crossover design. Sixteen subjects were recruited for this study. The subjects were randomly divided into two intervention groups and underwent either of the following two interventions: sciatic nerve mobilization or static stretching of the hamstring. We assessed hamstring flexibility, lower limb strength, and gait performance using a digital inclinometer, a hand-held dynamometer, and the 10-meter walk test, respectively. Subjects had a 24-hour rest period between each session in order to minimize carryover effects. Measurements for each test were assessed prior to and immediately after the intervention sessions. Using a two-way analysis of variance test with repeated measures, data from the two trials were analyzed by comparing the differences between both techniques. The level of statistical significance was set at .05. Sciatic nerve mobilization resulted in significantly better knee extensor strength (p=.023, from $15.32{\pm}5.98$ to $18.16{\pm}6.95kg$) and knee flexor strength (p=.011, from $7.80{\pm}4.80$ to $8.15{\pm}4.24kg$) in the experimental group than in the control group. However, no significant effects of static stretching of the hamstring were observed on hamstring flexibility from the ankle plantar flexion (p=.966) and ankle neutral positions (p=.210) and on gait performance (p=.396). This study indicated that the sciatic nerve mobilization technique may be more effective in muscle activation of the knee extensor muscle and knee flexor muscle than hamstring static stretching technique in patients with chronic stroke.

Static tests of the composite wing structure were performed to verify damage tolerance design. Both 5 cases of DLLT and 3 cases of DULT were completed to meet requirements for static strength. After inducing BVID and open hole damages on the critical areas of the composite wing based on associated regulations, the DULT and fracture test were performed. In major wing parts, the measured strains and displacements agreed well with those of structural analysis. The initial structural fracture occurred at the area having minimum margin of safety as expected by analysis. As a result, it was confirmed that results from analytic model and strength evaluation were similar to behaviors of the composite wing structure.
This paper presents the static and dynamic measurements for the strength and motion characteristics as well as the improved procedures to assess strength of wheel loaders. Two scenarios for static measurement were decided by which cylinder was actuating. The dynamic measurement was performed for two types of motion, that is, simple reciprocation of the working devices and actual working motion including traveling, digging and dumping. The measured items were stresses, cylinder pressures and strokes. Stress induced by bucket working showed higher level than that by boom working. The measured cylinder speeds were relatively superior to the design speeds. Working stress histories were thought to be closer to static rather than dynamic. A fully assembled FE model was prepared for structural analysis. In this paper, a more simple method was suggested to avoid nonlinearity caused by heave of rear frame under digging forces. Also how brake affected on structural behavior and digging force was examined closely in relation with tire pressure. It was confirmed that the overall stress level of wheel loader during turning traveling with loaded bucket was far lower than the yield stress of material.
The proposed building upgrading technique employs prestressing cables to function as bracing to improve the seismic performance during future events. A four-story reinforced concrete moment resisting frame damaged from an ultimate limit state earthquake is assessed and upgraded using the proposed technique. Both existing and upgraded buildings are evaluated in regard of seismic performance parameters performing static lateral load to collapse analysis and dynamic nonlinear time history analysis as well. To obtain realistic comparison of seismic performance between existing and upgraded frames, each frame is subjected to its critical ground motion that has strength demand exceeding the building strength supply. Furthermore, reliability of static lateral load to collapse analysis as a substitute to time history analysis is evaluated. The results reveal that the proposed upgrading technique improves the stiffness distribution compared to the ideal distribution that gives equal inter-story drift. As a result, the upgraded building retains more stories that contribute to energy dissipation. The overall behavior of upgraded building beyond yield is also enhanced due to the gradual change of building stiffness as the lateral load increases.

The determination of response characteristics for pressure sensors is routinely limited to static calibration against a deadweight pressure standard. The strength of this method is that the deadweight device is a primary standard used to generate precise pressure. Its weakness lies in the assumption that the static and dynamic responses of the sensor in question are equivalent. Differences in sensor response to static and dynamic events, however, can lead to serious measurement errors. Dynamic techniques are required to calibrate pressure sensors measuring dynamic events in milliseconds. In this paper, a dynamic calibration using negative going dynamic pressure is proposed to determine dynamic pressure response for piezoelectric sensors. Sensitivity and linearity of sensor by the dynamic calibration were compared with those by the static calibration. The uncertainty of calibration results and the goodness of fit test of linear regression analysis were presented. The results show that the dynamic calibration is applicable to determine dynamic pressure response for piezoelectric sensors.
