  • Recently, for the development of vehicle structures and components there is a tendency to increase using numerical simulation methods compared with practical tests for the estimation of the fatigue strength. In this study, an integrated powerful methodology is suggested for fatigue strength evaluation through development of the interface program to integrate dynamic analysis quasi-static stress analysis and fatigue analysis, which were so far used independently. To verify the presented evaluation method, a single and zigzag bump run test, 4-post road load simulation and driving durability test have been performed. The prediction results show a good agreement between analysis and test. This research indicates that the integrated life prediction methodology can be used as a reliable design tool in the pre-prototype and prototype development stage, to reduce the expense and time of design iteration.

  • Recently, various static analysis tools for software defect detection are becoming widely used in practice. However, there is little public information of the most frequent defects in commercial areas until now. In this paper, we analyze the defects found by CodeSonar, a static analysis tool that finds defects in C/C++, Java programs. So we report the most frequent defects by various aspects in Dongnam area, Korea.

  • The bead is used to provide properly restraining force in the sheet metal forming process. This bead process includes bending and geometrical non-linearity, and affects the state of binderwrap. Therefore, the analysis of bead process is very important to obtain the desired formability. In this paper, the research about the influence of the punch stroke of bead on the draw-bead process was conducted. Results from the analysis will give useful information to the effective tool design of blank forming process. To analyze the bead process, and elasto-plastic finite element formulation is constructed from the equilibrium equation and the considered boundary conditions involved a proper contact condition. The static-explicit finite element method as a numerical method for the analysis was applied to the analysis program code. It was found that this method could solve too much computation time and convergence problem owing to high non-linearity of bead forming process.

  • Recently, demand on machine tools has been increased because the machine and automobile industry is booming. Therefore, the machine tools need to have a high accuracy and productivity. To build a high precision machine tool and increase its productivity, structural analysis needs to be carried out for vibration and stiffness of the machine tool before its detail design. However, it is the fact that many manufacturers of machine tools depend on their know-how about design experience. Therefore, in this paper, the static and dynamic analysis is carried out for evaluating a horizontal CNC lathe and then, applied to its detail design. It is positive that the analysis can lead to reduction of design time and improvement of the quality of the lathe as its design proceeds.

  • Though the research and the development in the field of machine tool was focused on high precision and high speed machine these days, traditional gear reduction device has been used to increase the cutting force which was transmitted from power source, motor In this study, analysis of 2 step gear reducer used in machining center spindle was carried out by using APM WinMachine which is commercial software for the analysis of machine element and system. For the analysis of this device, first of all, the analysis of power source and the transmitting of it were carried out. Then, machine elements like gear, shaft, bearing, and the forth, was analyzed in the view point of life time, static strength, stiffness, fatigue failure, etc. Consequently, we can estimate them and introduce new idea of the design modification of reduction device by this study.

  • Moving flexible structures such as transfer systems in press machine, crane, working table of machine tools have vibration problems because of starting, feeding and stopping. An analysis method is suggested and experimentally studied in order to solve a vibration problem of a moving flexible structure. In this method, the concepts of substructure synthesis method and semi-static displacement including rigid body mode were used. Total deformation of a structure was assumed to be composed of quasi-static and dynamic components. Experimental results from an elementary model of a transfer feeder showed good agreements with computational results.

  • The use of tailor welded blanks (TWB) in automotive applications is increasing due to the potential of weight and cost saving. The object of this study is development of the front side member by static analysis and crash simulations. Accord-ing to the results , energy absorption and barrier force is very important parameter to control passenger safety and deforma-tion shape. A energy absorbability point of view, tailor welded blanks is most effective to absorb energy than non-twb. Non-TWB front side member and TWB applied front side member were simulated. It shows reduce stmping parts weight reduction and cost down.

  • A FQI(fatigue quality index) analysis using the concept of SF(severity factor) is performed to various shape of elliptical hole. FQI is fatigue quality index to estimate the dynamic SF from static SF by finite element analysis. Since the SF is affected by the location of cutout in plate and radius ratio, static SF is analyzed with finite element method and forms the equation of FQI for predicting a dynamic SF. To examine the validity, dynamic SF is measured by photoelastics and thermalelastics for an epoxy resin plate with various elliptical holes under dynamic load.

  • We reported that hot electron phenomena in submicron nMOSFET by Monte Carlo method. In order to predict the influence of the hot electron effects on the device reliability, either simple analytical model or a complete two dimensional numerical simulation has been adopted. Results of numerical simulation, based on the static mobility model, may be inaccurate when gate length of MOSFET is scaled down to less than 1um. Most of device simulation packages utilize the static nobility model. Monte Carlo method based on stochastic analysis of carrier movement may be a powerful tool to characterize hot electrons. In this work, energy and velocity distribution of carriers were obtained to predict the relative degree of short channel effects for different device parameters. Our analysis shows a few interesting results when $V_{ds}$ is 5 volt, average electron energy does not increase with gate bias as evidenced by substrate current.
