  • The long term bridge monitoring system in Korea was installed in 1995 at first, and many bridges has been maintained by long term monitoring system. Recently, reliability of data and cost effectiveness has been increased by advanced sensor technology, measuring equipment. However, considering several reference and data on bridge monitoring systems in Korea, various problems of bridge monitoring systems can be found. Therefore, in this study, the state of the art on bridge monitoring systems in Korea were investigated and various problems and solutions for these problems were suggested.

  • Clustering is a method that collects data objects into groups based on their similary. Performance of the state-of-the-art clustering methods is different according to the data characteristics. There have been numerous studies that performed experiments to compare the accuracy of the state-of-the-art clustering methods by applying various kinds of datasets. A common problem of these studies is that they only consider clustering algorithms that yield the most accurate results for a particular dataset. They do not consider what factors affect the execution time of each clustering method and how they are affected. Nevertheless, execution time is an important factor in clustering performance if there is no significant difference in accuracy. In order to solve the problems of the existing research, through a series of experiments using various types of datasets, we compare the accuracy of four representative clustering methods. In addition, we perform practical clustering performance comparisons by deriving time complexity and identifying factors that influences to its performance.

  • Our recent work on virtual environments and virtual displays is reviewed, including our efforts to establish the Virtual Environment Research, Interactive Technology, And Simulation (VERITAS) facility and our research on spatial hearing. VERITAS is a state-of -the-art multisensory facility, built around the ${CAVE}^{TM}$ technology. High-quality 3D audio is included and haptic interfaces are planned. The facility will support technical and non-technical users working in a wide variety of application areas. Our own research emphasizes the importance of auditory stimulation in virtual environments and complex display systems. Experiments on auditory-aided visual target acquistion, sensory conflict, sound localization in noise, and loxalization of speech stimuli are discussed.

  • We will report the latest developments in light emitting polymer (LEP) systems developed at CDT. Device performance for spin coated and ink jet printed systems will be described which are state-of-the-art. We will also report on novel driving schemes for both active and passive addressed LEP displays. These drive schemes extend system lifetime as well as lowering power consumption.

  • EMU Traction Control System has been largely relied on foreign technology until now. In this time, this system is developed by own local technology according to national technology development policy during 3 years. In this paper, the new developed Traction Control System of EMU and its testing results are introduced. The Traction Control System is consisted latest IGBT switching elements and its traction control algorithm is realized by the state-of-the-art technology, vector control. The system is fully tested in various conditions and the quality is well verified in those tests.
