  • Synthetic ferrimagnetic layer (SyFL) with structure NiFe/Ru/NiFe which can be applied high density TMR device in free layer were prepared by an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) helicon-sputter. We proposed a model of predicting coercivity (H$\_$c/), spin-flopping field (H$\_$sf/), and saturation field (H$\_$s/) as a function of Ru thicknesses, from the equilibrium state of energies of Zeeman, exchange, and uniaxial anisotropy. We fabricated the samples of Ta(50 ${\AA}$)/NiFe(50${\AA}$)nu(4∼20${\AA}$)NiFe(30 ${\AA}$)/Ta(50${\AA}$), and measured the M-H loops with a superconduction quantum interference device (SQUID) applying the external field up to ${\pm}$ 15 kOe. The result was well agreed with the proposed model, and reveal K$\_$u = 1000 erg/㎤, J$\_$ex/ =0.7 erg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. We report that H$\_$c/ below 10 Oe is available, and R$\_$u/ thickness range should be in 4-10 ${\AA}$ for MRAM application. Our result implies that permalloy layers may lead to considerable magnetostriction effect in SyFL and intermixing in NiFe/Ru interfaces.

  • Esophageal atresia is the abnormal development of the esophagus that connects the mouth to the stomach. This birth defect results in the incomplete connection of the esophagus to the stomach causing an inability to swallow properly and breathing difficulties. Surgery is the only treatment for esophageal atresia. Patients undergone an esophageal reconstruction usually suffer from gastroesophageal reflex. A 5-year old boy with congenital esophageal atresia and Sciwitar syndrome visited Seoul National University Dental Hospital because generalized excessive loss of tooth structure. The patient had history of multiple operations for reconstruct esophagus. He had little food intake experience thought oral and had difficulty to swallowing. The patient was generalized severe erosive and decayed state. For patient, the dental procedure under general anesthesia was scheduled due to the multiple caries with erosion and poor cooperation. Under general anesthesia, pulpectomy and restoration as well as extraction was performed. Gastroesophageal reflex is potentially serious condition, with various extraesophageal adverse effects such as dental erosion. To prevent progression of dental caries, dietary counselling and oral hygiene instruction should be reinforced. Also, restorations to erosive teeth will maintain esthetics and function and preserve pulp vitality.

  • Since the forest succession is changing process in the structure and function of a forest for the long period of time, the objectivity of the process could be improved through the development of model or statistical methodology. This study was carried out to estimate succession index based on climax index and species composition parameters, thereupon to compare the succession index with life form and species diversity so as to grasp the information of quantitative successional process for the six community types in the natural deciduous forest of Mt. Jumbong area. The results indicated that Quercus mongolica-Tilia amurensis community had the greatest succession index of 67.5, followed by Abies holophylla-Fraxinus mandshurica community with 67.4. Juglans mandshurica-Cornus controversa community was recorded the smallest value of 60.5. The succession index of overstory tended to increase considerably at the stage of steady state for all community types except Quercus mongolica-Tilia amurensis community. However, The index of midstory hardly varied as the forest succession would progress for all community types. The succession index was negatively correlated to wind-water dispersion type of life form and positively to animal dispersion type at the 5% probability level. On the other hand, the index was not significantly correlated to the species richness and Shannon's species diversity index.

  • Echo generated in digital hearing aid vent give rise to user's discomfort. For cancelling feedback echo in vent, it is required to estimate vent impulse response exactly. The vent impulse response has time varying and sparse characteristics. The IPNLMS has been known a useful adaptive algorithm to estimate vent impulse response with these characteristics. In this paper, subband sparse adaptive filter which applying IPNLMS to subband hearing aid structure is proposed to cancel echo of vent by estimating sparse vent impulse response. In the propose method, the decomposition of input signal to subband can pre-whiten each subband signal, so adaptive filter convergence speed can be improved. And the poly phase component decomposition of adaptive filter increases sparsity of each components, and the better echo cancellation can be possible without additional computation. To derive coefficients update equation of the adaptive filter, by defining the cost function based weight NLMS is defined, and the coefficient update equation of each subband is derived. For verifying performances of the adaptive filter, convergence speed, and steady state error by white signal input, and echo cancelling results by real speech input are evaluated by comparing conventional adaptive filters.

  • $Bi_{0.5+x}(Na_{0.78}K_{0.22})_{0.5-3x}TiO_3$ ceramics with an excess $Bi^{3+}$ and a deficiency of $Na^+$ and $K^+$ were synthesized by a conventional solid state reaction method. The structure and morphology of $Bi_{0.5+x}(Na_{0.78}K_{0.22})_{0.5-3x}TiO_3$ ceramics were characterized by X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The electric polarization and mechanical strain induced by external electric field, and the temperature dependence of dielectric constant were investigated. These results demonstrated that an ergodic relaxor phase can be induced by controls of the mole ratio of $Bi^{3+}$, $Na^+$ and $K^+$. A phase boundary between non-ergodic and ergodic relaxor phases can be observed at ambient temperature. The ergodic relaxor phase can be transferred to the ferroelectric phase by application of the electric field. The stability of the induced ferroelectric phases strongly depends on the mole ratio of $Bi^{3+}$, $Na^+$ and $K^+$. The maximum strain of 0.31% was observed in $Bi_{0.51}(Na_{0.78}K_{0.22})_{0.47}TiO_3$ ceramics sintered at $1,150^{\circ}C$ for 2 h.

  • A series of polyurethane acrylate/ZnO (PUA/ZnO) nanocomposite films with different ZnO contents were successfully prepared via a UV-curing system. The synthesis and physical properties including morphological structure, thermal properties, barrier properties and optical properties, and antimicrobial properties were investigated as a function of ZnO concentration. FTIR and SEM results showed that these PUA/ZnO nanocomposite films did not have a strong interaction between PUA and ZnO, which may lead to no increase in thermal stability. By incorporating ZnO nanoparticles, the UV blocking and antibacterial properties increased as the content of ZnO increased. Specially, the oxygen permeability in composite films changed from $2005cc/m^2/day$ to $150cc/m^2/day$ by adding the ZnO nanoparticle, which indicates that the PUA/ZnO nanocomposite films can be applied as good barrier packaging materials. Physical properties of the UV-cured PUA/ZnO nanocomposite film are strongly dependent upon the dispersion state of ZnO nanoparticles and their morphology in the films.

  • Phytoplankton controls marine ecosystems in terms of nutrients, photosynthetic rate, carbon cycle, etc. and the degree of its influence on the marine environment depends on their physical size. Many studies have been attempted to identify marine phytoplankton size classes using the remote sensing techniques. One of successful approach was the three-component model which estimates the chlorophyll concentrations of three phytoplankton size classes (micro-phytoplankton; >20 ㎛, nano-; 2-20 ㎛ and pico-; <2 ㎛) as a function of total chlorophyll. Here, we examined the applicability of Geostationary Ocean Colour Imager (GOCI) to the mapping of the phytoplankton size class distribution in the East Sea. A fit of the three-component model to a biomarker pigment dataset collected in the study area for some years including a large harmful algal bloom period has been carried out to derive size-fractioned chlorophyll concentration (CHL). The tuned three-component model was applied to the hourly GOCI images to identify the fractions of each phytoplankton size class for the entire CHL. Then, we investigated the distribution of phytoplankton community in terms of the size structure in the East Sea during the harmful Cochlodinium polykrikoides blooms in the summer of 2013.

  • Objective: Choline deficiency, one main trigger for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is closely related to lipid metabolism disorder. Previous study in a choline-deficient model has largely focused on gene expression rather than gene structure, especially sparse are studies regarding to alternative splicing (AS). In modern life science research, primary hepatocytes culture technology facilitates such studies, which can accurately imitate liver activity in vitro and show unique superiority. Whereas limitations to traditional hepatocytes culture technology exist in terms of efficiency and operability. This study pursued an optimization culture method for duck primary hepatocytes to explore AS in choline-deficient model. Methods: We performed an optimization culture method for duck primary hepatocytes with multi-step digestion procedure from Pekin duck embryos. Subsequently a NAFLD model was constructed with choline-free medium. RNA-seq and further analysis by rMATS were performed to identify AS events alterations in choline-deficency duck primary hepatocytes. Results: The results showed E13 (embryonic day 13) to E15 is suitable to obtain hepatocytes, and the viability reached over 95% by trypan blue exclusion assay. Primary hepatocyte retained their biological function as well identified by Periodic Acid-Schiff staining method and Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity assay, respectively. Meanwhile, genes of alb and afp and specific protein of albumin were detected to verify cultured hepatocytes. Immunofluorescence was used to evaluate purity of hepatocytes, presenting up to 90%. On this base, choline-deficient model was constructed and displayed significantly increase of intracellular triglyceride and cholesterol as reported previously. Intriguingly, our data suggested that AS events in choline-deficient model were implicated in pivotal biological processes as an aberrant transcriptional regulator, of which 16 genes were involved in lipid metabolism and highly enriched in glycerophospholipid metabolism. Conclusion: An effective and rapid protocol for obtaining duck primary hepatocytes was established, by which our findings manifested choline deficiency could induce the accumulation of lipid and result in aberrant AS events in hepatocytes, providing a novel insight into various AS in the metabolism role of choline.
