  • The buoyancy effects on mixed convection heat transfer over a flat plate surface with unheated starting length is reported. The governing equations are solved by a finite difference method using Patankar scheme and the solution was numerically obtained for various mixed convection parametr $Gr_{x}/Re_{x}^3$, and Prandtl number of 0.7 Local heat flux was measured by using Schilieren Interferometer. The local heat transfer results show that the presence of the unheated starting length can significantly accentuate the effects of buoyancy. The degree of accentuation of the buoyancy effects is strongly influenced by the magnitude of $Gr_{x}/Re_{x}^3$. When the parameter is larger than the order of $10^{-3}$, the contribution of natural convection to the heat transfer coefficients increased significantly due to the unheated starting length. In contrast, when $Gr_{x}/Re_{x}^3$ is smaller then about $10^{-5}$ , the buoyancy contribution is essentially unaffected by the unheated starting length. The shape of the velocity profile is also found to be highly responsive to the interaction between the buoyancy and the starting length.

  • Kaolinite was synthesized through th acid treatment of mixture which consisted of psudoboehmite and colloidal silica in hydrothermal reaction at $213^{\circ}C$ under autogeneous vapor pressure. Crystallization process was characterized by X-ray powder diffraction pattern, IR spectra and Hinckley index was calculated. The synthesis in acidic solution promotes the dissolution of the starting materials and leads to crystallization of kaolinite. The rate of crystallization to kaolinite and stacking defect were found to e affected by kind of anion, acidity and starting materials.

  • The method of simulated annealing is a technique that has recently attracted significant attention as suitable for optimization problem of very large scale. If the temperature is too high, then some of the structure created by the heuristic will be destroyed and unnecessary extra work will be done. If it is too low then solution is lost, similar to the case of a quenching cooling schedule in the Simulated Annealing (SA) phase. Therefore, a crucial issue in this study is the determination of the starting temperature and cooling schedule for SA phase.

  • The purpose of this study was to prevent the dilutional effect of excessive absorption of irrigating solution by using furosemide intraoperatively during transurethral resection of the prostate, 30 patients, who belonged to physical status II or III of ASA classification, were selected randomly and divided with two groups as follows : G1(N=15) : Not-administrated furosemide(control group) G2(N=15) : Administrated furosemide(Experimental group). All patients were premedicated with Hydroxyzine(1mg/kg, IM) and were performed continous epidural anesthesia with 2% lidocaine(1-1.5mg/segment). For irrigating solution, 5% D-sorbitol was used and Hartman's solution were given for maintenance fluid and fixed the height of irrigating container to 60 cm from symphysis pubis. With the starting of operation, 20mg furosemide was administrated to experimental group. The blood samples for the values of $Na^+$, $K^+$, Glucose and BUN were performed at the periods of preoperation, 10 min, 20 min, 30 min after the starting of operation and immediate postoperation. Based these data, serum osmolality and effective osmolality were calculated. The results were as follows : 1. The sodium concentration of control group was decreased statistically significantly at 10 min, 20 min, 30 min after the starting of operation and immediate postoperative period as comparing with the preoperation value(p<0.05). But that of experimental Group was not changed significantly. 2. The serum osmolality and effective osmolality were decreased statistically significantly at 30 min after the starting of operation and immediate postoperative period as comparing with the preoperation value(p<0.05). But those of experimental group were not changed significantly. These results show that the dilutional effect of excessive absorption of irrigating solution might be prevented by using furosemide intraopertively. And so we recommend the use of furosemide during TURP, especially in patients with congestive heart failure or renal failure.

  • The single-phase switched reluctance motor(SRM) generates the positive torque in the restricted section. So, it can not started by itself and the torque ripple is heavier than poly-phase. For self-starting and fixing rotating direction, the rotor should be placed at the rising inductance slope when stationary. The parking permanent magnet locates the rotor in the fixed position, which can be started by it-self. It is very simple and cost effective but has some drawbacks. It affects the rotor during the operation, so the characteristics of motor, such as a torque, speed, and ripple are changed to go bad. This paper presents the detent torque of parking magnet starting device through the finite element analysis and experiments. The finite element analysis is performed at incremental rotor positions over one detent torque cycle for any one pole. The prototype, fabricated in the previous research, is used for the experiments. The inductance, instant torque, and detent torque are calculated using the terminal voltage and phase current. Finally, the finite element analysis result and the experiment result are compared for analysis and validity.

  • Submicron nickel powders were prepared from aqueous solution under hydrothermal condition. The experimental conditions including the types of protective agents, concentration of the solution and the pH were studied in detail. Starting concentration of nickel ion is a dominant factor affecting particle size. It was shown that the subsequent addition of Poly Vinyl Pyrrolidone(PVP) and Sodium Dodecyle Sulfate(SDS) can help to disperse the nickel powder. X-ray diffraction and SEM were employed to characterize the products.

  • This paper concerns on a multiprocessor task scheduling problem with precedence relation, in which each task requires several processors simultaneously. Meta-heuristic generally finds a good solution if it starts from a good solution. In this paper, a tabu search is presented to find a schedule of minimal time to complete all tasks. A modified tabu search is also presented which uses a new initial solution based on the best solution during the previous run as the new starting solution for the next iteration. Numerical results show that a tabu search and a modified tabu search yield a better performance than the previous studies.

  • A heuristic method TABU-CSP using Tabu Search (TS) is described for solving Constraint Satisfaction Problems (CSPs). The method is started with a complete but inconsistent solution of a binary CSP and obtained in prespecified number of iterations either a consistent solution or a near optimal solution with an acceptable number of conflicts. The repair in the solution at each iterative step is done by using two heuristics alternatively. The first heuristic is a min-conflicts heuristic that chooses a variable with the maximum number of conflicts and reassigns it the value which leads to the minimum number of conflicts. If the acceptable solution is not reached after the search continued for a certain number of iterations, the min-conflict heuristic is changed and the variable selected least number of times is chosen for repair. If an acceptable solution is not reached, the method switches back to the min-conflict heuristic and proceeds further. This allowed the method to explore a different region of search space space for the solution as well as to prevent cycling. The demonstration of the method is shown on a toy problem [9]which has no solution. The method is then tested on various randomly generated CSPs with different starting solutions. The performance of the proposed method in terms of the average number of consistency is checked and the average number of conflicts is conflicts is compared with that of the Branch and Bound(BB) method used to obtain the same solution. In almost all cases, the proposed method moves faster to the acceptable solution than BB.

  • The spherical particles of $CeO_2/SiO_2$ composite powder with narrow-size distribution and pure phase particles were synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method from aqueous cerium sulfate solution. The resulting composite powder was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmittance electron microscopy, in-vitro sun protect factor, and BET surface area analysis. The concentration of cerium sulfate was tested to vary the particle size from $3.40{\times}10^{-3}$ to $1.02{\times}10^{-2}mol/cm^3$ to study concentration effect of starting material. The average particle size from the $3.40{\times}10^{-3}mol/cm^3$ concentration was found to be slightly smaller than that from the $1.02{\times}10^{-2}mol/cm^3$ concentration, because of the relation between the droplet size and the concentration of the starting material solution.
