Aviating with Multiple Intelligence

  • Alongside the rapid development of AI technology, which is stepping in to do tasks more quickly and less prone to error than humans can, the possibility for MI (multiple intelligence) development warrants equal attention and fervor. Recent theories of human intelligence point beyond standard cognitive capacity, IQ, and shine a light on the other unique potentials naturally endowed to humans. The applicability of MI to aviation is discussed, suggesting that it is important to consider ways to integrate MI development techniques into pilot education and training. Experiential starting points are discussed.

  • In this paper, we proposed an improved method on the picture order of coding (POC) of MPEG-5 Essential video Coding (EVC) encoder to support a short intra period for Video-based Point Cloud Compression (V-PCC). As a codec-agnostically designed standard, V-PCC claimed to be able to work with a lot of codecs. Current EVC test model software shows that the baseline profile could not provide appropriate POC calculation. The proposed method offers a solution to this POC-related problem and provides up to 44.6% coding grains for EVC based V-PCC.

  • We consider incompressible, inviscid, stratified shear flows in β plane. First, we obtained an unbounded instability region intersect with semi-ellipse region. Second, we obtained a bounded instability regions depending on Coriolis, stratification parameters and basic velocity profile. Third, we obtained a criterion for wave stability. This has been illustrated with standard examples. Also, we obtained upper bound for growth rate.

  • Quality assurance with high safety profile is one of the most critical issues to medical device manufacturing. In general, this issue was not paid proper attention with respect to acupuncture needle and its related devices. Acupuncture needles are manufactured through various standards ranging from purely hand-made, partially hand-made and partially machine-made, to fully machine-made mainly in China, Korea, and Japan. There is a large difference in quality between needles from different manufacturers. In order to provide a standard manufacturing guideline, it seems necessary to make a Korean Industrial standard (KS). The authors review this topic from an historical view point, investigate the current situation of the standardization of acupuncture needles in other developed countries, and inspect the general procedure to establish a KS in Korea in order to suggest a KS for acupuncture needles.

An Efficient Hardware Architecture of Intra Prediction in H.264/AVC Decoder (H.264/AVC 디코더용 인트라 예측기의 효율적인 하드웨어 구현)

  • H.264/AVC is the upcoming video coding standard of ITU-T H.264 and ISO MPEG-4 AVC. The new standard can achieve a significant improvement up to 50% in compression ratio compared to MPEG-4 advanced simple profile. In this paper, we propose the novel intra prediction scheme to speed up intra prediction process in H.264/AVC decoder and show the hardware architecture for it. The proposed scheme uses the concurrent processing of the 4$\times$4 intra prediction, which is based on that some 4$\times$4 block pairs in a 16$\times$16 luma block can be processed concurrently. The proposed scheme can reduce intra prediction time by 33 %.

Path Loss Characteristics in Subway Platform at 2.45GHz Band (2.45GHz 대역의 지하철 플랫폼에서 경로손실 특성)

  • In this paper, path loss and delay profile characteristics are measured in the subway platform. To evaluate the fading characteristics of the measured signals, the standard deviations are computed. The standard deviation is bigger for shorter distance. The shorter the distance, the bigger the phase difference between direct wave and reflected waves according the distance, which results in heavy fading. To compute the path loss according to distance, the average values of path loss exponent(n) is evaluated. The path loss exponents measured in the subway environment for Omni-VP(omni-directional vertical polarization) antenna and CP(circular polarization) antenna are 1.418 and 1.680, respectively, which are considerably less than 2.0, the free space path loss exponent.

  • 최근의 정보화 사업들은 인터넷 환경을 기반으로 하여, 웹 시스템으로 구축되고 있다. 그러나 웹 환경은 그 개방성으로 인하여 보안이 매우 취약하지만, 보안에 대한 체계적으로 정립된 보안모델이 없어 정보화사업마다 나름대로의 보안 모델을 만들어 적용하고 있다. 이렇게 자체적으로 정의한 보안모델은 구성 정도에 따가 취약성을 내포할 수 있으며, 일부 시스템 보안성에 문제가 발생하면 네트워크로 연결된 다른 시스템에도 문제가 전이치는 사례를 초래할 수 도 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 부 연구에서는 정보화 사업들의 보안성 향상을 위하여 지켜야 하는 최소한의 보안 모델을 표준과 함께 제시하고자 한다.

  • The purpose of this study was to aid the case analysis and diagnosis of the maxillofacial deformities for orthognathic surgery. The applied method for analysis was a Cephalometries for Orthognathic Surgery(COGS) by Burstone. Lateral cephalograms were obtained from 59 subjects over 21 years old, that consisted of 30 males and 29 females with normal occlusion, acceptable profile. The results were as follows : 1. The author made the tables of means, standard deviations in each item, sex. 2. The author performed whether there was significance (P<0.05) between the registered male and female's measurement in each item.

Analytical method to estimate cross-section stress profiles for reactor vessel nozzle corners under internal pressure

  • This paper provides a simple method by which to estimate the cross-section stress profiles for nozzles designed according to ASME Code Section III. Further, this method validates the effectiveness of earlier work performed by the authors on standard nozzles. The method requires only the geometric information of the pressure vessel and the attached nozzle. A PWR direct vessel injection nozzle, a PWR outlet nozzle, a PWR inlet nozzle and a BWR recirculation outlet nozzle are selected based on their corresponding specific designs, e.g., a varying nozzle radius, a varying nozzle thickness and an outlet nozzle boss. A cross-section stress profile comparison shows that the estimates are in good agreement with the finite element analysis results. Differences in stress intensity factors calculated in accordance with ASME BPVC Section XI Appendix G are discussed. In addition, a change in the dimensions of an alternate nozzle design relative to the standard values is discussed, focusing on the stress concentration factors of the nozzle inside corner.

  • 본 논문은 HD (High-definition) video, SD (Standard-definition) video, low quality video, handset video, 4 가지 Imaging Device 에 대한 프로파일 분석을 통해 비디오 프레임 상에 나타나는 위 변조를 검사하는 방법을 제안한다. High-definition video, Standard-definition video, low quality video, handset video 에 대한 분석을 하고 각 영상의 특이 점을 파악 하여 분류한 클래스에 대한 프로파일검사를 통해 EM Algorithm 을 이용하여 영상의 위 변조를 검사 하고 영상의 신뢰성을 높인다.
