Development of a Femur Neck Bone Mineral Density Measuring Device for Accurate Examination

  • In bone density examinations, a change in the measured BMD occurs owing to the differences between the measured areas. To address this problem, we aimed to develop a new auxiliary device that could be rotated by $15^{\circ}$ by fixing the ankle to the distal femur neck. Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) of BMD examinations were performed once a year, but 10 patients were examined over three sessions to analyze the area for measuring the femur neck BMD. The goal of this test was to determine the device's reliability, and the results were expressed in terms of the standard deviation of measurements. After performing bone density measurements using the new auxiliary device on 10 normal patients, with three measurements for each patient, the obtained standard deviation was 0.03. The standard deviation of the measured BMD was 0.19 when using the currently existing auxiliary device, while the standard deviation of the measured BMD was 0.03 when using the new auxiliary device. By using the new auxiliary device, the standard deviation could be reduced by ~80%. Accurate rotation of the femur neck was possible in all examinations, and the standard deviation of BMD measurements could be reduced by up to 80% compared with the measurements performed using the currently existing auxiliary device. We hope that this advantageous new design can be used as a standard auxiliary device for measuring the femur neck BMD.

  • This paper establishes a scheme to estimate track quality using standard deviation and deterioration rate of track irregularities. To provide index of quality, standard deviation and deterioration rate of track irregularities are analyed. As an index, standard deviation and deterioration rate were applied to decision of corrective maintenance and replacement maintenance, respectively. Further, this paper proposes a basic scheme for a modernization of mechanize track maintenance that using MTT(Multiple Tie Tamper) and Ballast Cleaner.

중첩 불일치 평가기준으로서의 계수공제영상의 계조도 표준편차 연구 (The Study of Standard Deviation of Gray Scale Histogram in Digital Subtraction Radiography as a Test Parameter for SuperimpoSition Error)

  • Purpose : The aim of this study was to assess the validity of standard deviation of gray scale histogram in digital subtraction radiography as a test parameter for superimposition error. Materials and Methods : Twenty periapical radiographs were used as baseline images and they were copied to exclude the influence of exposure geomety and contrast differences. These subsequent images were linearly displaced by 0.1-0.5 mm in the x-. y- and xy-directions, rotated by 0.5-3° and distorted by angular contraction of 1-5° in x- and y-axis before subtraction. The standard deviations of gray levels in the subtraction images were obtained and paired t-tests were performed. Pearson correlation coefficients(r) were calculated between the standard deviations and the superimposition errors. Results : Linear displacement showed high correlation coefficients of 0.997, 0.997 and 0.995 in x-. y- and xy-axis respectively. Statistically significant different standard deviation existed among all linearly displaced groups(p<0.05). Distortion showed relatively low correlation coefficients of 0.982 and 0.959 in x- and y-axis. The standard deviations between the two distortion groups were statistically significant different(p<0.05). Conclusion : Standard deviation of gray level distribution in digital subtraction images is satisfactory but not perfect similarity measure to assess the superimposition errors.

사회복지시설 아동의 신체발육 및 영양상태 (Anthropometric and Nutrition Status of Institutional Children)

  • This study was designed to investigate the malnutrition rate with anthropometric indices for the nutrient intake of 74 children aged 4-12 years old in three child welfare institutions in Cheonan city. The average heights and weights of the children are much lower than the Korean average height and weight. The mean BMI is $17.0{\pm}1.53$. In terms of height-for-age, 16.0% of the samples belong to below -2 standard deviation from the mean of the reference group. In terms of weight-for-age, 16.0% of the children belong to below -2 standard deviation. In terms of weight-for-height, 4.0% of the children belong to below -2 standard deviation. The standard deviation scores(Wt/Age, Ht/Age) indicate negative signs for seventy to eighty percent of the children. This is due to the lower consumption of the important nutrients that children consumed and almost all nutrients much less than the recommended daily allowances. Special nutrition welfare policies and programs targcting child welfare institutions should be developed to provide adequate nutrition for children in residential care.

기후학적 평년 표준편차 분포도의 상세화 (Estimation of Climatological Standard Deviation Distribution)

  • 2011-2015년까지 경남 하동군 악양 집수역의 해발고도 8~1,073m 범위에 설치된 10개 무인기상관측기에서 0600, 1500 기온 관측값을 수집하여 월별 표준편차를 계산하고, 소기후모형으로부터 예측된 기온의 표준편차 결과를 함께 비교하여 미관측 지점의 추정기술에 실효성이 있는지 평가하였다. 소기후모형에 따른 예측값은 월별 0600, 1500 기온의 표준편차를 각각 88%, 86% 정도 설명할 수 있었지만, 전반적으로 과소추정하는 경향이었다. 겨울철과 여름철에 나타나는 낮은 고도 대비 해발고도가 높아질수록 변이가 작아지거나 커지는 방향성에 있어서 관측값과는 반대양상으로 나타나 당초 기대와는 다른 결과를 보였다. 또 다른방법으로 월별 기온 표준편차와 지형간의 관계를 정량화하여 임의지역의 지형특성과 종관규모 수준의 기온자료 만으로 표준편차 분포를 예측할 수 있을지 회귀분석을 수행하였다. 회귀모형은 해발고도편차에 따라 보정된 월별 기온 외에, 경사도와 경사향 등 기본적인 지형인자와 온난대효과와 냉기집적효과, 개방도 등의 기온과 관련된 변수들을 고려하여 월별로 표준편차를 가장 잘 설명할 수 있는 변수를 1~3개까지 선발하여 만들어졌으며, 월별 결정계수는 0.46부터 0.98 범위로 나타났다. 회귀모델을 이용해 기온이 관측되지 않는 임의지역의 표준편차를 지형변수의 최소-최대값 유효범위 내에서 월별로 예측한다면 70% 수준의 추정능력으로 공간변이 분포도를 나타낼 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

  • 제 7차 교육과정의 '수학 I '과 '확률과 통계'에서는 표본표준편차가 수학적으로 각기 다르게 정의되고 있다. 학교 수학에서 표본표준편차를 정의하는 문제는 표본 표준편차가 갖는 통계적 의미의 분석과 더불어 학교 수학 내에서 모평균의 추정과 관련하여 표본표준편차가 갖는 수학적, 교수학적 의미에 대한 논의를 함께 필요로 한다. 이 연구에서는 우선 가르칠 지식으로서 표본표준편차와 관련된 몇 가지 이슈를 모평균의 추정과 관련하여 실제 교수 상황과 교육과정의 전개방식을 통해 확인하였다. 다음으로는 학문적 지식으로서 표본표준편차의 특성을 일반통계학 교재들을 분석함으로서 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 일본과 미국, 영국 교과서에서 택한 표본 표준편차의 교수학적 변환 방식을 검토한 후, 이를 토대로 우리 교육과정에의 시사점을 도출하였다.

ESTIMATING VARIOUS MEASURES IN NORMAL POPULATION THROUGH A SINGLE CLASS OF ESTIMATORS

  • This article coined a general class of estimators for various measures in normal population when some' a priori' or guessed value of standard deviation a is available in addition to sample information. The class of estimators is primarily defined for a function of standard deviation. An unbiased estimator and the minimum mean squared error estimator are worked out and the suggested class of estimators is compared with these classical estimators. Numerical computations in terms of percent relative efficiency and absolute relative bias established the merits of the proposed class of estimators especially for small samples. Simulation study confirms the excellence of the proposed class of estimators. The beauty of this article lies in estimation of various measures like standard deviation, variance, Fisher information, precision of sample mean, process capability index $C_{p}$, fourth moment about mean, mean deviation about mean etc. as particular cases of the proposed class of estimators.

평균과 표준편차를 이용한 자동 임계치-결정 알고리즘 (Automatic Threshold-decision Algorithm using the Average and Standard Deviation)

  • 본 논문에서는 연속된 프레임들의 차이 값으로부터 획득된 평균과 표준편차를 이용한 새로운 자동 임계치-결정 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 먼저, 연속된 프레임사이의 차이 값들에 대한 계산은 기존의 컬러 히스토그램과 ${\chi}^2$-테스트를 병합한 변형된 ${\chi}^2$-테스트 알고리즘을 이용하였다. 변형된 ${\chi}^2$-테스트는 각 컬러공간에 명암도 등급에 따른 가중치를 적용하여 보다 세분화된 값들에 의한 장면전환 검출을 시도할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 제안된 자동 임계치 결정 알고리즘은 획득된 전체 차이값들의 분포로부터 1차 평균과 표준편차를 구한 후, 이를 다시 주어진 차이 값들에 적용하여 1차 평균을 만족하는 차이 값들로부터 2차 평균과 표준편차를 구하며, 이러한 연속적인 평균과 표준편차의 계산으로부터 표준편차가 최대지점으로부터 작아지는 시점의 평균을 기준으로 임계치를 결정하는 방법이다. 제안된 방법은 다양한 비디오 데이터에서 실험되었으며, 실험결과 자동 임계치 결정에 효율적이며, 신뢰할만한 장면들을 검출하였다.

관측자료로 추정한 강우유출모형을 기후변화 영향평가에 그대로 활용하여도 되는가? (Is it suitable to Use Rainfall Runoff Model with Observed Data for Climate Change Impact Assessment?)

  • Rainfall-runoff models are calibrated and validated by using a same data set such as observations. The past climate change effects the present rainfall pattern and also will effect on the future. To predict rainfall-runoff more preciously we have to consider the climate change pattern in the past, present and the future time. Thus, in this study, the climate change represents changes in mean precipitation and standard deviation in different patterns. In some river basins, there is no enough length of data for the analysis. Therefore, we have to generate the synthetic data using proper distribution for calculation of precipitation based on the observed data. In this study, Kajiyama model is used to analyze the runoff in the dry and the wet period, separately. Mean and standard deviation are used for generating precipitation from the gamma distribution. Twenty hypothetical scenarios are considered to show the climate change conditions. The mean precipitation are changed by -20%, -10%, 0%, +10% and +20% for the data generation with keeping the standard deviation constant in the wet and the dry period respectively. Similarly, the standard deviations of precipitation are changed by -20%, -10%, 0%, +10% and +20% keeping the mean value of precipitation constant for the wet and the dry period sequentially. In the wet period, when the standard deviation value varies then the mean NSE ratio is more fluctuate rather than the dry period. On the other hand, the mean NSE ratio in some extent is more fluctuate in the wet period and sometimes in the dry period, if the mean value of precipitation varies while keeping the standard deviation constant.

정상 한국인 성인 남녀에서 협골을 중심으로 한 중안모의 측모 두부방사선 규격사진 분석법 (A LATERAL CEPHALOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF MIDFACE FOCUSING ON ZYGOMATIC BONE IN KOREAN ADULTS)

  • Purpose : A new method of lateral cephalometric analysis for midface, focusing on zygomatic bone, was created in this study, and measured in Korean adults. The purposes of this study are understanding about new approach for midfacial depression, especially zygomatic bone, and using to make adequate diagnosis and treatment plan. Materials and methods : In this study, esthetic Korean adults, 25 males and 25 females who were between $0^{\circ}$ and $4^{\circ}$ in ${\angle}ANB$, and between 62% and 70% in P/A facial height ratio, and had normal overbite and overjet, were used. Orbitale(Or) and Soft tissue orbitale(Or') were used for indicators of anteroposterior position of zygomatic area. And, mean value and standard deviation of linear and angular measurements, and ratio about each linear measurements, were obtained. then, standard deviation diagram - wiggle diagram - was made for visualization of results. Results : Mean values, standard deviations and ranges of 19 measurements were obtained, and among them, 5 linear measurements that had large standard deviation were excluded and the others were used for making standard deviation diagram. In standard deviation diagram, the following results were obtained. 1. If the measurements are located on more left side of mean-value-vertical -line, the potential of midfacial hypoplasia are stronger, especially zygomatic area. 2. If the measurements are located on more right side of mean-value-vertical-line, the potential of midfacial hypoplasia are decreased. Conclusion : This study presented a new method of lateral cephalometric analysis focusing on zygomatic bone in Korean adults. We expect that the results of this study can be used as parameter when clinicians make decisions about diagnosis and treatment plan for rehabilitation of esthetics and function. But, it is necessary to prove its usefulness, and to further evaluate the results.
