Load Disturbance Compensation for Stand-alone Inverters Using an Inductor Current Observer

  • A control scheme for stand-alone inverters that utilizes an inductor current observer (ICO) is proposed. The proposed method measures disturbance load currents using a current sensor and it estimates the inductor current using the ICO. The filter parameter mismatch effect is analyzed to confirm the ICO's controllability. The ICO and controllers are designed in a continuous-time domain and transferred to a discrete-time domain with a digital delay. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the ICO using a 5-kVA single-phase stand-alone inverter prototype. The experimental results demonstrate that the observed current matches the actual current and that the proposed method can archive a less than 2.4% total harmonic distortion (THD) sinusoidal output waveform under nonlinear load conditions.

  • This study proposes high-performance voltage controller design that employs a capacitor current control model for single-phase stand-alone inverters. The single-phase stand-alone inverter is analyzed via modeling, which is then used to design the controller. A design methodology is proposed to maximize the bandwidth of the feedback controller. Subsequently, to compensate for the problems caused by the bandwidth limitations of the controller, an error transfer function that includes the feedback controller is derived, and the stability of the repetitive control scheme is evaluated using the error transfer function. The digital repetitive controller is then implemented. The simulation and experimental results show that the performance of the proposed controller is high in a 1.5 kW single-phase stand-alone inverter prototype.

  • Nowadays, in islands where electricity should be provided autonomously, stand-alone microgrid technologies using renewable energy such as sunlight generation and wind power generation come into wide use. The microgrid electricity generation using renewable energy is greatly affected by the natural environment of a site. In order to maintain stable electricity supply for fluctuating electricity generation due to natural environment, the energy management via EMS is positively necessary. In existing stand-alone microgrid EMS, system operation logic is not changeable flexibly because compiled or builded codes are released into the EMS of a site, respectively. In this paper, we designed a flexible operating script-based microgrid EMS Framework for various sites and applied it to some island sites. We could confirm its usability.

  • Stand-alone cervical cage consists of a PEEK body, Ti plate, and screw, which are configured as a single-piece. Through a single operation, this implantable medical device is capable of completely fixing the cervical vertebral body. For example, instead of a plate, which is normally used, the intervertebral disc is removed and replaced with a cervical cage. It should be noted that in Korea, KFDA guidelines for a stand-alone cervical cage have not yet been suggested. Therefore, the aim of this study is to present the systematic study of the static compression test, static torsion test, dynamic compression test, and expulsion test. Further, the test method is designed to refer to the ASTM standard and relative literature.

  • In this paper, we propose a hierarchical motion controller with stand-alone vision system to enhance the flexibility of the robot soccer system. In addition, we simplified the model of dynamic environments of the robot using petri-net and simple state diagram. Based on the proposed model, we designed the robot soccer system with velocity and position controller that includes 4-level hierarchically structured controller. Some experimental results using the stand-alone vision system from host system show improvement of the controller performance by reducing processing time of vision algorithm.

  • This paper presents voltage and frequency control methods for a stand-alone Gasa Island Microgrid in South Korea that can be fully energized by renewable energy resources such as photovoltaic systems and wind turbines. To mitigate the variations of the output of renewable energy resources and supply more reliable electricity to customers, battery energy storage systems (BESSs) are employed in the stand-alone microgrid. The coordination between BESSs and pre-existing diesel generators is an important issue to manage the microgrid more securely. This paper presents voltage and frequency control schemes considering the coordination of BESSs and DGs. The effectiveness for the operating method is validated via simulation studies.

  • The ultimate goal of flow control in the semiconductor fabrication process, one of the most equipment-intensive and complex manufacturing process, is to reduce lead time and work in process. In this paper, we propose stand alone layout in the form of job shop using group technology to improve the Productivity and eliminate the inefficiency in FMS (flexible manufacture system). The performance of stand alone layout and in-line layout are analyzed and compared while varying number of device variable chanties. The analysis of in-line layout is obtained by examining its adoption in the memory products of semiconductor factory. The comparison is performed through simulation using ProSys; a window 95 based discrete system simulation software, as a tool for comparing performance of two proposed layouts. The comparison demonstrates that when the number of device variable change is small, in-line layout is more efficient in terms of production Quantity. However, as the number of device variable change is more than 14 times, stand alone layout prevails over in-line layout.

  • This paper is purposed to study on the relationship of learning style, professor image, academic achievement in cosmetology majoring college students, and to find the effective education methods of them. The research methods are survey with 400 persons & statistics analysis such as frequency, factor, regression analysis, using SPSS V.14. The results are as belows; 1. Learning styles are divided by (1) shirker, (2) participate, (3) stand-alone, (4) dependent, (5) cooperative, (6) competitive, and professor images are divided by (1) professor ability, (2) professor relationship. 2. There is a relationship in learning styles and professor images. Especially cooperative, participate, dependent valued professor ability, shirker devalued it and cooperative, stand-alone, dependent, competitive valued professor relationship, shirker devalued it. 3. There is a relationship on learning styles and the academic achievement. participate, stand-alone, dependent achieve in high glades and shirker, cooperative low ones. 4. There is a no valid relationship with professor images and the students' academic achievement. 5. The conclusion are; there are the relationship of learning style, professor image, academic achievement in cosmetology majoring college students. So shirker need endless motive giving program, participate personal record management system, dependent creative motivating program, participate class attractive factors, stand-alone learner centered program.

Design and Implementation of Stand-alone Microgrid Monitoring System for Green Energy Independence Island (그린에너지 자립섬을 위한 계통 독립형 마이크로그리드 모니터링 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • In domestic island regions, the power supply generally depends on diesel generators due to difficulties of grid connection. To solve this issue, recently, the study on the stand-alone microgrid technology and its test are being actively conducted. In this paper, we propose the stand-alone microgrid integration monitoring system for energy independence island. First, we design the software architecture for monitoring of solar, wind, diesel power generation facilities, transmission and distribution of grid network, and energy storage system. Then, we implement the monitoring software that allows administrators to identify and run the monitoring software easily.

Characteristics on Stand-alone Operation of a Doubly-fed Induction Generator Applied to Adjustable Speed Gas Engine Cogeneration System

  • An application of doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG), which is one of adjustable speed generators, to a gas engine cogeneration system has been investigated. To operate during a blackout as an emergency power supply is one of important roles for the gas engine cogeneration system. However, the DFIG requires initial excitation for startup during a blackout because the DFIG has no excitation source. In this paper, we propose the "blackout start" as a new excitation method to generate a rated voltage at the primary side during a blackout. In addition, a stand-alone operation following a blackout has been investigated by using experimental setup with a real gas engine. Power flows in the generating set with the DFIG at the stand-alone operation have been investigated experimentally. Experimental investigation of the power flow suggests that the generating set with DFIG has optimal speed in minimizing whole system losses.
