  • In this paper, we have proposed a new internal model control structure (IMC). It is aimed at unstable overactuated multivariable systems whose transfer matrices are singular and unstable. The model inversion problem is essential to understand this structure. Indeed, the precision between the output of the process and the setpoint is linked to the quality of the inversion. This property is preserved in the presence of an additive disturbance at the output. This inversion approach proposed in this article can be applied to multivariable systems with no minimum phase or minimum phase shift with or without delays in their transfer matrices. It is proven by an example of simulation through which we have shown its good performance as a guarantee of stability, precision as well as rapidity of system responses despite the presence of external disturbances and we have tested this control structure in the frequency domain hence the robustness of the IMC.

  • Variations in system parameters due to uncertainties of parameters may result in system performance deterioration and create system internal stability problems. Uncertainties in structural modeling of structures are often considered to ensure that the control system is robust with respect to response errors. So the uncertain concept plays an important role in the analysis and design of the engineering structures. In this paper, the active control of the intelligent structures with the uncertainties is studied and a new method for analyzing the robustness of systems with the uncertainties is presented. Firstly, the system with uncertain parameters is considered as the perturbation of the system with deterministic parameters. Secondly, the feedback control law is designed on the basis of deterministic system. Thirdly, perturbation analysis and robustness analysis of intelligent structures with uncertainties are discussed when the feedback control law is applied to the original system and perturbed system. Combining the convex model of uncertainties with the finite element method, the analysis theory of the robustness of intelligent structures with the uncertainties can be developed. The description and computation of the robustness of intelligent structures with uncertain parameters is obtained. Finally, a numerical example of the application of the present method is given to show the validity of the method.

  • The robustness and stability properties for a model reference adaptive control system with plant uncertainty are considered in this paper, using input-output stability theory. An error model for a typical adaptive control structure is extended to unmodelled dynamics in the plant model and then, the strictly positive real condition for global stability is examined. In general, since this condition can be easily violated due to unmodelled dynamics, a modified compensator which can be guaranteed Hev e SPR is introduced in the plant model and the effectiveness for the given structure is also given.

  • Stability robustness of a linear time-varying system with time-varying structured state space uncertainties is considered by using extended-mean theorem and Bellman's lemma. The extended-mean theorem is a necessary and sufficient exponential stability criterion based on the recently developed PD-eigenvalue and PD-eigenvector for a linear time-varying system. Our new result required that the extended-mean of each nominal PD-eigenvalue should be negative real which is determined by a norm involving the structures of the uncertainty and the no...

  • In this paper, we propose a new method using a feedforward disturbance observer that guarantees stability and robustness about the effects of external disturbance and model uncertainty. The method is consist of a disturbance observer, a feedforward controller, and an overshoot detecting logic. It has an advantage of reducing the excessive overshoot by external disturbance and model uncertainty. Also, it is easy to adjust the control gain due to a simple structure. In order to verify the effectiveness of a new method, simulation results are given for longitudinal model of F-16 aircraft. By reflecting a various of model uncertainties, the stability and the robustness are guaranteed. Finally, the stability and the robustness of the proposed method are verified using root locus plot and bode plot.

  • The $H_{\infty}$ control theory using LMI method is applied to design an attitude controller of radial type satellite that has strongly coupled channels due to the large product of inertia. It is observed that the cross-over frequency of open-loop with $H_{\infty}$ controller is lower than that of open-loop without controller, which is not typical phenomenon in an optimal control design result: it is interpreted that due to a large product of inertia, there is certain limit in increasing agility of satellite by just tuning weighting function. ${\mu}$-analysis is performed to verify the stability and performance robustness with the assumption of +/-5% MOI variation. ${\mu}$-analysis result shows that the variation of principal MOI degrades the stability and performance robustness more than the variation of POI does.

  • This paper analysis the AM-SCS-MMA (Adaptive Modulus-Soft Constraint Satisfaction-MMA) based on the adaptive modulus and minimus-disturbance technique in order to improve the stability and robustness in low signal to noise power of current MMA adaptive equalization algorithm. In AM-SCS-MMA, it updates the filter coefficient applying the adaptive modulus and minimum-disturbance technique of deterministic optimization problem instead of LMS or gradient descend algorithm for obtain the minimize the cost function of adaptive equalization. It is possible to improve the equalizer filter stability, robustness to the various noise characteristic and simultaneous reducing the intersymbol interference due to the amplitude and phase distortion occurred at channel. The computer simulation were performed for confirming the improved performance of SCS-MMA. For these, the output signal constellation of equalizer, residual isi, MSE, EMSE (Excess MSE) which means the channel traking capability and SER which means the robustness were applied. As a result of computer simulation, the AM-SCS-MMA have slow convergence time and less residual quantities after steady state, more good robustness in the poor signal to noise ratio, but poor in channel tracking capabilities was confirmed than MMA.

  • This study proposes a two-layer hierarchical control system that integrates active front wheel steering and four wheel braking torque control to improve vehicle handling performance and stability. The first layer is a robust model matching controller (R-MMC) based on linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which optimizes an active front steering angle compensation and a desired yaw moment control, and calculates reference wheel slip for the target wheel according to the desired yaw moment. The second layer is a moving sliding mode controller (MSMC) that can track the reference wheel slip in a predetermined time by commanding proper braking torque on the target wheel to achieve the desired yaw moment. Since vehicle sideslip angle measurement is difficult to achieve in practice, a sliding mode observer (SMO) that requires only vehicle yaw rate as the measured input is also developed in this study. The performance and robustness of the SMO and the integrated control system are demonstrated through comprehensive computer simulations. Simulation results reveal the satisfactory tracking ability of the SMO, and the superior improved vehicle handling performance, stability and robustness of the integrated control vehicle.

  • This paper proposed a new IMC-PID controller design method using the loop shaping method. By the application of the loop shaping method for IMC-PID controller which has only one design parameter and guarantees internal stability, we can not only consider such design specifications as gain margin, phases margin, and sensitivity functions but also obtain the loop gain by setting up the relationships between design specifications and design parameters. A systematic method to select design parameters of IMC-PID controller in order to meet the design specifications is suggested and its effectiveness is examined by the case study and analysis.

  • This paper proposes an optimal robust LQ-PID controller design method for the second order systems to satisfy the design specifications in time domain. The tuning parameters of LQ-PID controller are determinated by the relationships between the design parameters of the overshoot and the settling time which are design specifications in time domain, and the weighting factors Q and R in LQR. we can achieve the performance-robustness in time domain as well as the stability-robustness.
