In this paper, the starting torque and efficiency characteristics of the induction motor (IM) for the electric vehicle (EV) are improved by changing the slot shapes of squirrel cage. The initial model of the induction motor is designed by the loading distribution method (LDM), and then the rotor with squirrel cage of NEMA class A is selected to optimize the slot shape by response surface method(RSM). The design variables of rotor slot shape are obtained by the RSM. Starting torque and efficiency were calculated by the equivalent circuit method. As a result, starting torque and efficiency of the optimized model shows good performance through whole-speed range.
This paper presents the calculation method for the equivalent-circuit parameters and torque characteristics of squirrel-cage induction motors. The measurement of motor parameters were calculated by the stator resistance test, the blocked rotor test and no load test to T type equivalent-circuit. Especially, this paper describes the test results obtained by using hall sensor and strain gauge for the current and torque characteristics of induction motors. Three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor which has 1[hp] was used to the test and the parameters obtained by the test were compared with the maker parameters.
The induction generator has many advantages compared to the synchronous generator in terms of cost and maintenance. So squirrel cage induction generator has been recently supplied in small hydroelectric power station. Squirrel cage induction generator generates a high inrush current at the grid-connection. This high inrush current causes a voltage drop on the grid. In order to increase the supply of the induction generator, it is very important to find the method of reducing inrush current and voltage drop.
A squirrel cage canned induction motor for the main coolant pump of the integral reactor, SMART was designed, manufactured and tested. The motor was first designed using the equivalent circuit theory to determine major dimensions and then finalized through finite element analyses for electromagnetic and thermal characteristics. In order to verify the design methodology, a reduced scale canned induction motor was manufactured and tested. The experimental results have shown a good agreement with the analysis results.
This paper presents a method for determining of the equivalent d-q model parameters of three-phase squirrel cage induction motors. The method is based on the use of a finite-element field calculation which enables the precise slot geometry to be modelled accurately, and includes the effects of magnetic saturation of iron core. The proposed method can reduce computational costs compared with the method that needs the iterative field analysis to obtain the impedance. It is verified that the circuit inductances are shown as functions of the current.
This paper proposed the 2-D Finite Element analysis method taking into end-ring of squirrel cage induction motor. Secondary conductor resistance can be simply replaced new one considering end-ring resistance. In the case of 2-D FEM, the end-ring resistance is hard to condsider. And the results without considering end-ring resistance have an error. To verify the proposed method we compared the analysis results and test ones.
An induction motor can be controlled like a separately excited do motor by field oriented control(or vector control). In vector control, Because the transformation of the stator's 3-phase current into two orthogonal current is required. the control scheme is complicated. But, Yamamura proposed a field acceleration method(FAM) without the phase transformation. FAM simplify an implementation control scheme for induction motors. In this paper, the analysis of transient phenomena of a squirrel-cage induction motor was achieved by the spiral vector method and the phase segregation method. It simplified control schemes more than those of vector control.
Designing of the squirrel cage AC Traction Motor has many difficulties which has to be small shape in order to be suitable into bogie frame, high efficiency and light weight. It means that induction motor for tractive efforts has to be different magnetic and electric loading ratio from industrial induction motor. This paper is devoted to an examination of how this ratio affects overall design concept and. hence the main design points for traction motor. Also studied is the changed coefficients of the magnetic and electric loading ratio squirrel cage induction motor for the traction purpose, which has been already identified from the referance book for industrial purpose induction motor.
In this paper, a new approach monitoring rotor vibrations in a squirrel-cage induction motor is proposed. The air-gap flux variation analysis was done using search coils inserted in stator slots when rotor vibration conditions occur. An accurate modelling and analysis of air-gap flux variation in the induction motor are developed using finite-element(FE) software packages, and measuring the flux are made using search coils. In the FE analysis, the three-phase squirrel-gage induction motor with 380 (V), 5 (HP), 4 Poles, 1,742 [rpm] ratings is used. The results of FE analysis can be useful for on-line vibration monitoring of the induction motors.
The possibility of suppressing critical speeds by using electromagnetic actuators (EMAs) is assessed experimentally in this paper. The system studied is composed of a horizontal flexible shaft supported by two ball bearings at one end and one roller bearing that is located in a squirrel cage at the other end. Four identical EMAs supplied with constant current are utilized. The EMAs associated to the squirrel cage constitutes the hybrid bearing. Results obtained, show that the constant current, when applied to the EMAs, produces a shift of the first critical speed toward lower values. Moreover, the application of constant current for a speed interval around the critical speed enables a smooth run-up or run-down without crossing any resonance.
