  • The dipole moments for square planar and tetrahedral $[M(II)N_2S_2]$ type complexes are calculated, using the expansion method for spherical harmonics [M(II) = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) or Zn(II)]. The calculated values of the dipole moments for these complexes are in the range of the experimental values. The possible structures for these complexes in benzene solution are discussed on the basis of the calculated dipole moments and the the magnetic properties.

  • Three novel complexes of Cu(II), Co(II) and Zn(II) using a macrocyclic ligand derived by the condensation of diethylphthalate and benzidine have been designed, synthesized and characterized by UV-Vis., IR, Mass and Elemental analyses data in order to find out their antifungal activities. The stoichiometry of the complexes has been found to be 1:1 (Metal: Ligand). The analytical data indicate that the complexes exhibit square-planar geometry. The antifungal activity of the macrocyclic ligand and its metal complexes has been screened in vitro against fungi such as Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, Trichoderma harizanum, T. viridae and Rhizoctonia solani.

  • The substitution reaction of Fe$(CO)_5$ by ethylene has been studied for plausible intermediates by means of extended Huckel calculations. Among various reaction mechanisms the favorable reaction pathway is via a dissociative mechanism in which ethylene approaches to Fe$(CO)_4$ unit. For Fe$(CO)_4$ fragment, the square planar conformation is found to be the most stable form by the extended Huckel calculations. Our calculations show that ethylene attacks square planar intermediate formed by removing one carbonyl from Fe$(CO)_5$ and then the unstable species thus formed is distored to the most stable trigonal bipyramid with the ethylene lying in the equatorial plane.

  • Square planar nickel(II) complexes with various 1-alkyl derivatives of the 14-membered pentaaza macrocycle 8-methyl-8-nitro-1,3,6,10,13-pentaazacyclotetradecane can be readily prepared by two-step metal template condensation reactions of ethylenediamine, nitroethane, formaldehyde, and appropriate primary alkylamines. In coordinating solvents the nickel (II) complexes form octahedral species containing two axially coordinated solvent molecules and thus show square planar-octahedral equilibrium. The properties of the pentaaza macrocyclic complexes are considerably different from those of the complexes of analogous hexaaza and tetraaza macrocyclic complexes. Synthesis, characterization, and spectroscopic and chemical properties of the new complexes are described.

  • New square planar nickel(Ⅱ) complexes with various 1-alkyl (4a-4c) and 1-hydroxyalkyl (4d-4f) derivatives of the 14-membered pentaaza macrocycle 8-ethyl-8-nitro-1,3,6,10,13-pentaazacyclotetradecane have been synthesized by two-step metal template condensation reactions of ethylenediamine, nitroethane, formaldehyde, and appropriate primary amines. The nitro group and/or hydroxyl group of 4a-4f are not directly involved in the coordination. The nickel(Ⅱ) complexes exist in coordinating solvents such as MeCN, Me2SO, and H2O as equilibrium mixtures of the square planar [Ni(L)]2+(L=4a-4f) and octahedral species [Ni(L)S2]2+(S=solvent molecule). Although the ligand field strength and redox potentials of the complexes are not affected by the nature of the substituents, the formation of octahedral species for 4d-4f in MeCN is strongly restricted by the hydroxyl group. Synthesis, characterization, and solution behaviors of the nickel(Ⅱ) complexes are described.

  • Axial coordination of anions or water to the square-planar nickel(Ⅱ) complexes of the hexaaza macrocyclic ligands 1, 2, and 3, which contain two extra uncoordinated tertiary nitrogens, have been investigated in aqueous solutions containing HX (X=Cl-, Br-, NO3-, or ClO4-) and/or NaX. The nickel(Ⅱ) complexes exist in the acidic solutions as equilibrium mixtures of the square-planar [Ni(L)]2+ (L=1, 2, and 3) and octahedral species [Ni(H2L)X2]2+ (H2L=diprotonated form of L). Some octahedral complexes have been isolated and characterized. The solution behaviors of the complexes indicate that the formation of the octahedral complexes are significantly promoted by the protonation of the uncoordinated tertiary amines. The proportion of the octahedral complexes depends on the type of acid, and increases in the order of HBr < HNO3 < HCl.

  • Square planar nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes of 14-membered macrocyclic ligands containing various alkyl pendant arms at the uncoordinated nitrogen atoms, 1,8-dipropyl, 1,8-dibutyl, 1,8-bis(2-methylpropyl), 1,8-bis(2-ethylhexyl), and 1,8-dibenzyl-1,3,6,8,10,13-hexaazacyclotetradecane have been prepared from the template condensation of ethylenediamine, formaldehyde, and appropriate primary amines in the presence of the metal ion. The spectroscopic and electrochemical properties of these complexes are similar to those of tetraaza macrocyclic complexes and are not affected significantly by the nature of the alkyl groups.

  • New $N_2O_2$ donor type Schiff base has been designed and synthesized by condensing acetoacetanilido-4-aminoantipyrine with 2-aminobenzoic acid in ethanol. Solid metal complexes of the Schiff base with Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II), Zn(II), VO(IV), Hg(II) and Cd(II) metal ions were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility, molar conduction, fast atom bombardment (FAB) mass, IR, UV-Vis, and $^1H$ NMR spectral studies. The data show that the complexes have the composition of ML type. The UV-Vis. and magnetic susceptibility data of the complexes suggest a square-planar geometry around the central metal ion except VO(IV) complex which has square-pyramidal geometry. The in vitro antifungal activities of the compounds were tested against fungi such as Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Rhizopus stolonifer, Candida albicans, Rhizoctonia bataicola and Trichoderma harizanum. All the metal complexes showed stronger antifungal activities than the free ligand. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of the metal complexes were found in the range of $10{\sim}31{\mu}g/ml$.

  • In the positioning algorithm of two-dimensional planar sensor array, the estimation error of time difference-ofarrival (TDOA) algorithm is difficult to avoid. Thus, how to achieve accurate positioning is a key problem of the positioning technology based on planar array. In this paper, a method of sensor reliability discrimination is proposed, which is the foundation for selecting positioning sensors with small error and excellent performance, simplifying algorithm, and improving positioning accuracy. Then, a positioning model is established. The estimation characteristics of the least square method are fully utilized to calculate and fuse the positioning results, and the non-uniform weighting method is used to correct the weighting factors. It effectively handles the decreased positioning accuracy due to measurement errors, and ensures that the algorithm performance is improved significantly. Finally, the characteristics of the improved algorithm are compared with those of other algorithms. The experiment data demonstrate that the algorithm is better than the standard least square method and can improve the positioning accuracy effectively, which is suitable for vibration detection with large noise interference.
