Sheet metal forming process is a non-linearity problem which Is affected by various process variables, such as geometric shape of punch and die, frictional characteristic, etc.. Therefore, the knowledge of the influence of the process variables is needed in the design of sheet metal working processes. In this paper, deep drawing tests for blank holding force, punch speed and lubrication between sheet material and tool were carried out to investigate the influence upon sheet formability. Experimental results were discussed about the defects on the deformation behaviors during the forming process.

An experimental modeling of cutting and structural dynamics and the on-line detection of malfunction process is substantial not only for the investigation of the static and dynamic characteristics of cutting process but also for the analytic realization of diagnostic systems. In this regard, We have discussed on the comparative assessment of two recursive time series modeling algorithms that can represent the machining process and detect the abnormal machining behaviors in precision round shape machining such as turning, drilling and boring in mold and die making. In this study, simulation and experimental work were performed to show the malfunctioned behaviors. For this purpose, two new recursive approach (REIVM, RLSM) were adopted fur the on-line system identification and monitoring of a machining process, we can apply these new algorithm in real process for the detection of abnormal machining behaviors such as chipping, chatter, wear and round shape lobe waviness.

In order to investigate the influences of process parameters on the shape of lead frame, experimental study has been carried out. In the experiment, dimensional accuracy of the die sets, measurement accuracy has been managed carefully enough to simulate actual lead frame blanking process. With the blanking of square-shaped specimen, the effects of clearance, strip holding pressure and bridge width on the shape of blanked profile have been investigated. Experimental results show that the burnish ratio is increased as the clearance decreases. the strip holding pressure increases, and bridge width increases. Although the results seems to be similar to the ordinary blanking, the lead frame blanking shows a subtle different characteristics to the ordinary blanking due to the narrow bridge width.
In the sheet metal forming operations, the strain measurement of sheet panel is an essential work which provides the formability information needed in die design, process design, and product inspection. To measure efficiently complex geometry strains, the 3-dimensional automative strain measurement system, which theoretically has a high accuracy but practically has about 3~5% strain error, is often used. For eliminating the strain error resulted in measuring the strains of formed panels using an automated strain measurement system, the position error calibration method is suggested, which computes accurate strains using the grids with accurate nodal coordinates. The accurate nodal coordinates are calculated by adding the nodal coordinates measured by the measurement system and the position error found using the multiple regression method as a function of the main error parameters obtained from the analysis of strain error in a standard cube. For the verification, the strain distributions of square and dome cups obtained from the position error calibration method are compared with those provided by the finite element analysis and ASAME.

One of the important developments in next generation electronic devices is the technology for power delivery and heat dissipation. In this study, the Cu-to-Cu flip chip bonding process was evaluated using the square ABL power bumps and circular I/O bumps. The difference in bump height after Cu electroplating followed by CMP process was about $0.3{\sim}0.5{\mu}m$ and the bump height after Cu electroplating only was about $1.1{\sim}1.4{\mu}m$. Also, the height of ABL bumps was higher than I/O bumps. The degree of Cu bump planarization and Cu bump height uniformity within a die affected significantly on the misalignment and bonding quality of Cu-to-Cu flip chip bonding process. To utilize Cu-to-Cu flip chip bonding with ABL bumps, both bump planarization and within-die bump height control are required.
PURPOSE. This study aimed to compare the accuracy (trueness and precision) of interim crowns fabricated using DLP (digital light processing) according to post-curing time. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A virtual stone study die of the upper right first molar was created using a dental laboratory scanner. After designing interim crowns on the virtual study die and saving them as Standard Triangulated Language files, 30 interim crowns were fabricated using a DLP-type 3D printer. Additively manufactured interim crowns were post-cured using three different time conditions-10-minute post-curing interim crown (10-MPCI), 20-minute post-curing interim crown (20-MPCI), and 30-minute post-curing interim crown (30-MPCI) (n = 10 per group). The scan data of the external and intaglio surfaces were overlapped with reference crown data, and trueness was measured using the best-fit alignment method. In the external and intaglio surface groups (n = 45 per group), precision was measured using a combination formula exclusive to scan data (10C2). Significant differences in accuracy (trueness and precision) data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis H test, and post hoc analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney U test with Bonferroni correction (α=.05). RESULTS. In the 10-MPCI, 20-MPCI, and 30-MPCI groups, there was a statistically significant difference in the accuracy of the external and intaglio surfaces (P<.05). On the external and intaglio surfaces, the root mean square (RMS) values of trueness and precision were the lowest in the 10-MPCI group. CONCLUSION. Interim crowns with 10-minute post-curing showed high accuracy.
A thermally driven polysilicon micro actuator has been fabricated using surface micromachining techniques. It consists of P-doped polysilicon as a structural layer and TEOS (tetracthylorthosilicate) as a sacrificial layer. The polysilicon was annealed for the relaxation of residual stress which is the main cause to its deformation such as bending and buckling. And the newly developed HF VPE (vapor phase etching) process was also used as an effective release method for the elimination of sacrificial TEOS layer. The thickneas of polysilicon is $2{\mu}m$ and the lengths of active and passive polysilicon cantilevers are $500{\mu}m$ and $260{\mu}m$, respectively. The actuation is incurred by die thermal expansion due to the current flow in the active polysilicon cantilever, which motion is amplified by lever mechanism. The moving distance of polysilicon micro actuator was experimentally conformed as large as $21{\mu}m$ at the input voltage level of 10V and 50Hz square wave. The actuating characteristics are investigated by simulating the phenomena of heat transfer and thermal expansion in the polysilicon layer. The displacement of actuator is analyzed to be proportional to the square of input voltage. These micro actuator technology can be utilized for the fabrication of MEMS (microelectromechanical system) such as micro relay, which requires large displacement or contact force but relatively slow response.

Lightweight of plastic containers is becoming an important issue due to increasing environmental legislation and consumer awareness. In this study, the CAE analysis was conducted to optimize the shape of a 500 ml lightweight square polyethylene terephthalate(PET) bottle. First, the linear buckling alaysis using the finite element method was performed to analyze the correlation between the primary geometric parameters of the bottle and the buckling critical load. Then, the optimal geometry parameters were derived, and the actual buckling load was predicted by non-linear buckling simulation. The validity of the simulation results was verified by top-loading tests of PET bottles molded with the optimized geometry. The elastic modulus and tensile yield strength of PET through tensile tests were measured to improve the accuracy of the simulation. As a result of the tensile tests, the modulus of elasticity of PET increased from 2,900 MPa to 4,275 MPa, and the tensile yield strength increased from 52.4 MPa to 88.1 MPa. Finally the buckling load of the optimized PET bottle was found to be approximately 236 N, which is very similar to the simulation precition of 238 N. This study shows the feasibility and accuracy of the CAE analysis approach for the lightweight design of PET bottles, and will provide useful guidelines for the design of PET bottles.

With recent advancement of remote sensing technology, a variety of data acquisition over the same area is achievable. An automated co-registration of heterogeneous airborne images is a critical step for change detection. This paper describes an automatic method for co-registration between digital image and existing building model. Optimal building models for co-registration purpose are extracted as primitives from existing building model database. A set of homologous features between straight lines extracted from aerial digital image and model primitive are computed based on geometric similarity function. With obtained homologous features, EO parameter is recomputed using least square method. The result shows that die suggested method automatically co-register two data set in a reliable manner.
