A Range-Scaled 13b 100 MS/s 0.13 um CMOS SHA-Free ADC Based on a Single Reference

  • This work describes a 13b 100 MS/s 0.13 um CMOS four-stage pipeline ADC for 3G communication systems. The proposed SHA-free ADC employs a range-scaling technique based on switched-capacitor circuits to properly handle a wide input range of $2V_{P-P}$ using a single on-chip reference of $1V_{P-P}$. The proposed range scaling makes the reference buffers keep a sufficient voltage headroom and doubles the offset tolerance of a latched comparator in the flash ADC1 with a doubled input range. A two-step reference selection technique in the back-end 5b flash ADC reduces both power dissipation and chip area by 50%. The prototype ADC in a 0.13 um CMOS demonstrates the measured differential and integral nonlinearities within 0.57 LSB and 0.99 LSB, respectively. The ADC shows a maximum signal-to-noise-and-distortion ratio of 64.6 dB and a maximum spurious-free dynamic range of 74.0 dB at 100 MS/s, respectively. The ADC with an active die area of 1.2 $mm^2$ consumes 145.6 mW including high-speed reference buffers and 91 mW excluding buffers at 100 MS/s and a 1.3 V supply voltage.

  • With rapid development of communication industry, the kinds of communication service vary. According to the increasing use of radio waves, the intelligent and effective radio monitoring system needs to be developed, which is replaced for previous radio monitoring system. Next-generation intelligent radio monitoring system based on ITU-R, Rule of wireless facilities, and Radio Waves Act is used, and which can accurately and effectively function as effective radio monitoring system through spectrum analysis of channel power, frequency deviation, offset, and an occupied frequency bandwidth(99% or x-dB), about the analog and digital signal in On-Air of V/UHF bandwidth. Main function of the system has an radio quality measurement, unwanted electromagnetic signals (spurious, harmonic) measurement, high-speed spectrum measurement, frequency usage efficiency investigation, illegal radio exploration, working monitoring, In this paper, we proposes radio quality measurement, high-speed spectrum measurement of next-generation intelligent radio monitoring system.

  • 최근, LED 구동 인버터, DC-DC 컨버터, AC-DC 컨버터 및 형광등 ballaster 등의 고전압전원장치등에 압전변압기를 적용하고자 하는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 순수한 $PbTiO_3$는 큐리온도($490^{\circ}C$)가 높고, 기계적강도가 크며, 비유전율(약 200 정도)이 작다. 또한, 두께방향 진동의 전기기계 결합계수 ($K_t$)가 윤곽진동의 전기기계 결합계수($K_p$)보다 크므로 두께방향의 진동모드를 이용한 벌크파 진동자의 경우 윤곽진동방향으로 불요신호(spurious signal)가 적고, 작은 grain size($1\;{\mu}m$정도)로 미세가공이 가능하여 고주파 재료로 이용되고 있다. 압전변압기의 출력 전력을 향상시키기 위해서는 적층으로 제작하여야 하는데 적층 압전변압기 제작시 층간의 내부 전극이 도포된 상태에서 소결하여야 한다. 이때 소걸 온도가 높으면 Pd 함랑이 높은 전극을 사용하여야 하는데 Pd 전극의 가격이 비싸 소자의 경제성이 떨어지게 된다. 따라서 순수한 Ag 전극을 내부전극으로 사용하기 위해서는 $900^{\circ}C$ 이하에서 소결이 가능하여야 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 $(Pb,Ca,Sr)Ti(Mn,Sb)O_3$ 조성을 이용하여 $900^{\circ}C$ 이하의 저온소결이 가능한 두께방향진동모드 적층 압전변암기를 제작하여 그에 대한 전기적 특성을 조사하였다.

  • The traveling wave tube amplifier (TWTA), which can be applied to the Ka-band millimeter-wave multi-mode seeker, consists of an high voltage power supply(HVPS), a grid modulator, a command and control, and an RF assembly. We designed a power supply that generates a -17.9 kV high voltage by synchronizing the pulse repetition frequency(PRF) and power supply switching frequency(i.e. synchronization frequency), and a high-speed grid-switching modulator for RF pulse modulation. The TWTA, which is fabricated through miniaturization with a volume of 3.18 L, has high pulse switching characteristics of up to 18.5 ns. The maximum rise/fall time of the grid on/bias signal and peak power is more than 564.9 W. Moreover, an excellent spurious performance of -68.4 dBc or less was confirmed within the range of PRF and PRF/2.

Development of Battery-free SAW Integrated Microsensor for Real Time Simultaneous Measurement of Humidity and $CO_2$ component (습도와 $CO_2$ 농도의 실시간 동시감지를 위한 무전원 SAW 기반 집적 센서 개발)

  • A 440MHz wireless and passive surface acoustic wave (SAW) based chemical sensor was developed on a $41^{\circ}YX\;LiNbO_3$ piezoelectric substrate for simultaneous measurement of $CO_2$ gas and relative humidity (RH) using a reflective delay line pattern as the sensor element. The reflective delay line is composed of an interdigital transducer (IDT) and several shorted grating reflectors. A Teflon AF 2400 and a hydrophilic $SiO_2$ layer were used as $CO_2$ and water vapor sensitive films. The coupling of mode (COM) modeling was conducted to determine optimal device parameters prior to fabrication. According to simulation results, the device was fabricated and then wirelessly measured using the network analyzer. The measured reflective coefficient $S_{11}$ in the time domain showed high signal/noise (S/N) ratio, small signal attenuation, and few spurious peaks. In the $CO_2$ and humidity testing, high sensitivity ($2^{\circ}/ppm$ for $CO_2$ detection and $7.45^{\circ}/%$RH for humidity sensing), good linearity and repeatability were observed in the $CO_2$ concentration ranges of $75{\sim}375ppm$ and humidity levels of $20{\sim}80%$RH. Temperature and humidity compensations were also investigated during the sensitivity evaluation process.

A Dual-Channel 6b 1GS/s 0.18um CMOS ADC for Ultra Wide-Band Communication Systems (초광대역 통신시스템 응용을 위한 이중채널 6b 1GS/s 0.18um CMOS ADC)

  • This work proposes a dual-channel 6b 1GS/s ADC for ultra wide-band communication system applications. The proposed ADC based on a 6b interpolated flash architecture employs wide-band open-loop track-and-hold amplifiers, comparators with a wide-range differential difference pre-amplifier, latches with reduced kickback noise, on-chip CMOS references, and digital bubble-code correction circuits to optimize power, chip area, and accuracy at 1GS/s. The ADC implemented in a 0.18um 1P6M CMOS technology shows a signal-to-noise-and-distortion ratio of 30dB and a spurious-free dynamic range of 39dB at 1GS/s. The measured differential and integral non-linearities of the prototype ADC are within 1.0LSB and 1.3LSB, respectively. The dual-channel ADC has an active area of $4.0mm^2$ and consumes 594mW at 1GS/s and 1.8V.

Design of the PAM with High Linearity and Efficiency for Wibro (고선형성, 고효율의 Wibro용 PAM 설계)

  • This thesis is regarding of fabricating wibro PAM. First of all, we need to set specification based on link budget for wibro communication circumstance in order to develop PAM, then we decided specification concerning of wibro PAM by considering TTAS_Ko_06_0082R1 which is standarded in Korea, and IEEE Std. 802. 16d/e which is international standard. We selected the Doherty structure to increase efficiency, and pre-distorter structure to increase linearity. The fabricated PAM has not only a result of $26.5dB{\pm}1.0dB$ gain characteristics and maximum of -14 dB return loss characteristics in full frequency bands and full output ranges, but also a result of 37 dBc at 4 tone IMD characteristics which is improved result of 843 and a result of 31 dBc spurious characteristics which is improved result of 5 dB at 4.77 MHz offset point in status of having 27 % efficiency in the 26 dBm high power amplifier output signal. We confirmed the suggested structure is better than others by comparing with normal structure, balanced structure and Doherty structure without predistorter.
