  • This study was carried out to clarify the effects of the application of pesticide by different spray nozzle types on pesticide residues. The average droplet size and discharge rate were investigated when the manual compressed sprayer with two head disk type nozzle and the knapsack engine powered sprayer with two head fan shape nozzles were used. The fan type nozzles were classified into three types by the number of orifice in the nozzle. Three type nozzles tested were fan with one orifice, fan with two orifices and fan with three orifices. Fan (trade name : D-3) with 2.4 L/min. of the discharge rate and $76{\mu}m$ of the average droplet size while maintaining constant pressure $1.1{\pm}0.2$ MPa, and fan D-35 with 2.6 L/min. and $90{\mu}m$ while maintaining constant pressure $1.0{\pm}0.2$ MPa were appropriate. The orifice size of D-3 was 0.65 mm length ${\times}$ 0.45 mm width and the orifice size of D-35 was 0.62 mm length ${\times}$ 0.46 mm width. The residue levels of imidacloprid on perilla leaves among four applications by four different nozzles show significantly difference with 5% significance level. The residue levels $3.76{\sim}3.92mg\;kg^{-1}$ by fan or disk type is smaller than $4.52{\sim}4.92mg\;kg^{-1}$ by fan II or fan III. The residue levels of imidacloprid on perilla leaf were different depend on the spray nozzles type.

  • Piezo ceramic actuator is used for various industrial products such as spray, dispenser, and valve control etc. Since the deflection of the piezo ceramic element depends on the applied voltage, it is required a power amplifier with high voltage supply for driving the piezo ceramic actuators. In this paper, we develop a simple H-bridge type power amplifier and a compact flyback type high voltage switching mode power supply for piezo ceramic actuators. It is easy to adjust the amount of energy input to piezo ceramic actuator by pulse-width-modulation with H-bridge type power amplifier.

  • Injected fuel pressure waves of a common rail injector with various current profiles supplied to the injecor were measured using Bosch method. In order to drive the common rail injector, the current in the solenoid should be controlled using what is known as a peak and hold pattern, which consists of a high current level with a short time duration (peak) in the first step and a low current level with a long time duration (hold) in the subsequent step. The current profile can be shaped by swithcing an injector driving power source with the peak and hold waves. The capture, compare and PWM (CCP) pin in the microprocessor was used to generate the combined peak and hold waves. The PWM square wave generated from the CCP pin has a duty ratio of 100% for the peak current and 10% or 30% for the hold pattern. Five patterns of the current profile were generated by combining the peak and hold wave. The common rail pressure is controlled at 75, 100, and 130 MPa. As the fuel rail pressure increases, the variations of the measured fuel injection pressure wave according to the current profiles decrease.

  • This study examines the characteristics of spraying conditions based on the change in standoff distance during fine particle spraying while measuring the surface roughness, maximum depth, and maximum width of the sprayed surface. The processing shape of the sprayed surface is analyzed to understand the effects of injection pressure, nozzle diameter, standoff distance, processing shape, processing cycle, processing speed, and injection particles, which are the main factors of fine particle injection processing. Based on the derived characteristics, we attempt to determine the interrelationships of these major factors. The standoff distance is set as a variable factor and a spray machining experiment using a hexagonal shape (from among polygons) instead of square and circular shapes is conducted. Results reveal that research on the characteristics of spraying conditions could be expanded based on changes in the shapes of workpieces.

  • This study was conducted to examine the effect by application method and concentration of plant growth regulator (PGR) on the growth and runner production of strawberry (Fragaria ${\times}$ ananassa Duch. cv. Maehyang) in a velno-type greenhouse. The seedlings of strawberry were transplanted in pot ($64{\times}27{\times}18cm$) filled with commercial mixed medium (Tosilee) on February 22nd, 2016. The 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BAP) was applied with foliar spray or drench, respectively as 900, 1,200 or $1,500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ (50 mL per plant) at 3 weeks after transplanting. Nutrient solution was sufficiently supplied by the drip irrigation as EC $0.65dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ for rooting during 7 days. After rooting, the 450 mL nutrient solution supplied per pot twice a day (10 min). Plant height and crown diameter of 'Maehyang' mother plant appeared no significantly difference. The other growth characteristics, such as root length, number of primary roots, leaf length, leaf width, leaf area and fresh and dry weights of the shoot or root, were significantly the greatest in the control. And, the SPAD value of strawberry was the highest as 44.2 in the drench with $900mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$. The foiler spray was more effective in runner production than drench, and the number of runners appeared high values at the 900 and $1,500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$. Whereas, the number of strawberry plantlets was effective in the drench. The results indicate that both growth and the number of runners of strawberry plant were the best achieved by foliar spray application at the $900mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$.

  • Biological control using the plant growth-promoting Rhizobacterium (PGPR) has received significant attention in recent years. PGPR has been linked with promoting growth in economically important crops, such as potatoes, tomatoes, and rice. Bacillus mojavensis KJS-3 (Moja-3), isolated from food waste, possesses antifungal properties against Aspergillus terreus, A. fumagatus, A. flavus, and Fusarium redolense, and it may have potential in the development of products for industrial applications. The main purpose of this study was to determine the effects of spraying the PGPR Bacillus mojavensis KJS-3 on the growth of altari radish (leaf number, leaf length, leaf weight, root length, and rhizome length, adjacent portion diameter, and weight) and lettuce (leaf number, length, width, and weight). Three different concentrations of the foliar spray treatment of B. mojavensis KJS-3 were applied to the altari radish and lettuce: the recommended standard concentration of $1{\times}10^9cfu/g$, half the standard concentration of $0.5{\times}10^9cfu/g$, and double the standard concentration of $2{\times}10^9cfu/g$). The B. mojavensis strain foliar spray treatment increased the growth of the leaves and roots of the altari radish and increased the growth of the lettuce leaves. For both plants, the recommended concentration of B. mojavensis KJS-3 produced better growth than half the standard concentration, and the growth was similar with the double dose. This study demonstrates positive effects of Moja-3, suggesting it may be a potential new bio-fertilizer for improving the growth of altari radish and lettuce.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the prediction accuracy of FDS(Fire Dynamic Simulator) for the thermal and chemical characteristics of under-ventilated fire with unsteady fire growth in a semi-closed compartment. To this end, a standard doorway width of the full-scale ISO 9705 room was modified to 0.1 m and the flow rate of heptane fuel was increased linearly with time (until maximum 2.0 MW based on ideal heat release rate) using a spray nozzle located at the center of enclosure. To verify the capability of FDS, the predicted results were compared with a previous experimental data under the identical fire conditions. It was observed that with an appropriate grid system, the numerically predicted temperature and heat flux inside the compartment showed reasonable agreement with the experimental data. On the other hand, there were considerable limitations to predict accurately the unsteady behaviors of CO and $CO_2$ concentration under the condition of continuous fire growth. These results leaded to a discrepancy between the present evaluation of FDS and the previous evaluation conducted for steady-state under-ventilated fires. It was important to note that the prediction of transient CO production characteristics using FDS was approached carefully for the under-ventilated fire in a semi-closed compartment.

  • Elsholtzia byeonsanensis is a Korean native plant of the Lamiaceae family, and was first introduced in the Korean Journal of Plant Taxonomy. This plant has a short plant length of 20-35 cm, with leathery and glossy leaves. The purple flowers bloom in November, so they are highly useful as potted or ground cover ornamental plants. In this study, tray cell size (128, 162, and 200-cell trays), soil composition [horticultural soil (HS): decomposed granite (DG) 1:1, 1:2, and 1:4 (v:v)], seeding rate (1, 2, and 3 seeds per cell) and additional fertilizer concentrations (0, 250, 500, and 1000 mg/L Hyponex) were tested to find out the optimum seedling growth conditions. As a result of the study, E. byeonsanensis growth increased proportionally as the cell size of the tray increased. The growth was inhibited as the percentage of DG increased. As for the growth according to the seeding rate, plant height, plant width, leaf length, and leaf width decreased as the seeding rate increased, but there was no difference in the number of leaves, stem diameter, and root length. There was an increasing trend in seedling growth as the additional fertilizer concentration increased. Therefore, for producing E. byeonsanensis seedling, it is most effective to fill HS or HS:DG 1:1 in 128-cell trays, sow one seed per cell, and spray the seedling at 1000 mg/L for additional fertilizer.

  • Sedirea japonica is one of the critically endangered species in South Korea mostly due to artificial harms such as illegal collection and habitat destruction. Therefore, artificial propagation through improving germination rate, increasing growth, and controlling flowering is meaningful for the conservation and reintroduction of S. japonica. It is suggested that cytokinins are one of the multi-factors that contribute to plant growth and floral responses. Especially, exogenous cytokinins have been known to induce or promote shoot growth or earlier flowering in orchids. Therefore, it was investigated how the application of 6-benzylaminopurine (BA) influenced the growth and inflorescence of S. japonica. A foliar spray containing BA at 100, 200, 300, and 400 ppm was applied from 1st July to 30th December 2021. Leaf length, leaf length growth rate, leaf width, and width and length ratio were measured as growth-related factors. Visible inflorescence rate, inflorescence length, the number of flowers per inflorescence, and the distance between the stalks were measured as flowering-related factors. Growth-related factors except for leaf growth rate were not affected by BA treatments, while leaf growth rate was significantly increased by 200 ppm of BA treatment. The visible inflorescence rate increased by 200 ppm of BA treatment, and there seems an optimal concentration and threshold of BA treatment. An iterative experiment with more seedlings and measurement factors would be helpful to figure out the effects of exogenous BA treatment on S. japonica, and it can be applied for mass propagation.

  • Recently Amore pacific rack-type warehouse fire broke out and argue an urgent improvement of fire protection design code including automatic sprinkler and detection design. Various type of commodities have their unique fire characteristics from fire spread rate and heat lease rate and fire hazard depends on storage height, rack arrangement, aisle width, fire load etc. With increasing ceiling height for more storage space prevent effective water spray of sprinkler head, also delays detection time causes failure of early suppression. To achieve fire protection code performance of this occupancy, Major code articles relating to a classification of commodity, sprinkler system installation, detection and fire fighting are reviewed and suggested based on fire case analysis, code review between country and field survey.
