운동과 관절가동술을 혼합한 중재가 어깨관절 내적 충돌증후군을 가진 청소년기 야구선수의 관절가동범위, 통증정도, 기능수행정도에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Joint Mobilization Intervention Combined with Exercise on Range of Motion, Pain Intensity, and Functional Performance in Adolescent Baseball Players with Internal Impingement of the Shoulder)

  • PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to identify the effects of joint mobilization intervention combined with exercise on range of motion (ROM), pain intensity, and functional performance in adolescent baseball players with internal impingement syndrome of the shoulder. METHODS: The subjects were 30 adolescent baseball players diagnosed with internal impingement. Ten subjects were randomly assigned to each of 3 groups: Group 1 (exercise only), Group 2 (joint mobilization combined with exercise), and Group 3 (rest-only control group). Three weekly interventions were given for 4 weeks (the control group rested for 4 weeks). The main outcome measures were goniometer, visual analogue scale (VAS), and Korean Kerlan Jobe shoulder-elbow (K-KJOC) scores. The ROM (external and internal rotation), pain intensity (at the moment of throwing), and functional performance were compared among the groups. RESULTS: No significant difference was observed among the groups in the range of external rotation of the shoulder before and after the intervention, but the range of internal rotation was significantly increased in Group 2 compared to Groups 1 and 3. Pain intensity was significantly lower in Group 2 than in Group 1 and 3, and functional performance was significantly increased in Group 2 compared to Group 1 and 3. CONCLUSION: An intervention that combined joint mobilization with exercise was more effective than resting or exercise alone for rapid recovery from sports injury and improvement in athletic performance.

사회인 야구복 착용실태 조사 (A Study on the Wearing Conditions of Social Baseball Uniforms)

  • The purpose of this study is basic data for developing baseball uniform in the future by carrying out a survey of amateur baseball players on the wearing pattern of uniform and inconvenient details. To do this study, a survey targeting 307 male social baseball players in their 20s to 40s was conducted, and a preliminary survey through interview with designers, MDs and patternmakers had also been carried out and analyzed prior to the main one. The result shows that armpit and back patches get wet with perspiration the most, and patches around knees are likely to be worn out because of frequent sliding. Thus, they are dissatisfied with poor protective function the most and need quilted pads around knees. Answers for a question on injuries during games indicates that shoulder injuries due to pitching or batting and abrasion owing to sliding are most common and knee injuries are also frequent. As for the wearing satisfaction of uniform, they want elasticity and breathability of textile to be improved; they are not satisfied with its design and fit because they think top and bottoms are much too long and uncomfortable; they often find dirt inside of the uniform during games. Besides, they find it very difficult to remove dirt from the uniform even after washing. There has been a growing population of amateur baseball players over recent years, so this study would help develop functionally improved uniform and be used for developing uniform for professional baseball players.

The Effect of Modified Swing Method on the Muscle Activation Patterns of Upper Limb in Wheelchair Badminton Players

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of modified swing to prevent shoulder injury by analyzing differences in the muscle activation patterns of upper limb by the swing method in wheelchair badminton players. Research design, data, and methodology: 10 wheelchair badminton players participated in the experiment as subjects and performed 10 high clears and 10 smashes in both traditional and modified swing methods toward a shuttlecock hung at the height of racket impact point. For each trial, activation patterns of biceps brachii, triceps brachii, anterior deltoid, and posterior deltoid were measured from the upper limb participating in the swing from which the duration, peak, and root mean square (RMS) of electromyography (EMG) activities from swing initiation to shuttle impact were calculated. The maximum swing velocity of the smash and the distance of the high clear were also measured with both methods to compare differences in the swing velocity and shuttle hit distance. Results: Differences in the EMG peak and RMS of the anterior deltoid by swing methods were shown to differ by the skill type, being higher in the traditional swing method than the modified during only the high clear. The EMG peak and RMS, and the duration of the posterior deltoid were higher and longer with the traditional swing method than the modified during both the smash and high clear. The intensities of the biceps brachii and triceps brachii activities measured during the smash and high clear were higher in the traditional swing method than the modified, and the biceps brachii and triceps activity durations during the high clear were shorter in the modified swing method than the traditional. The maximum swing velocity of the smash was faster with the traditional swing method than the modified, while the distance of the high clear did not differ significantly. Conclusions: These results suggest that the modified swing can be an effective performance method for preventing shoulder injuries without undue loss of impact power in wheelchair badminton players by reducing excessive loads imposed on the shoulder and allowing the optimal use of the elbow extension.

맞춤형 마우스가드의 효능과 실제 (Effect and Value of Custom-made Mouthguard in Athletic Performance)

  • The aim of this document is to evaluate the effect of bite balance on physical fitness and motor capacity to determine the importance of the occlusal stability as a possible action mechanism of occlusal appliance including mouthguards on physical performances. We all remember that day when the prominent athlete was in the news wearing a mouthguard to improve human athletic performance. I once had investigated the determinants of athletic performance in all sorts of sports. Most of the studies had overinterpretation of results and lack of evidence to support the information. However, I discovered great expectations for new possibility in this field and settled for a more academic approach to this intriguing subject. The followings are some examples of the subject 1. Archers who wore occlusal appliances to increase the vertical dimension of occlusion by 2~3mm increased their ability to focus and to maintain good sense of balance. Their accuracy rate has been improved. The appliance was made of acrylic resin (a type of plastic). 2. Canoe players who wore occlusal appliances to increase the vertical dimension of occlusion by 5mm surpassed longtime competitor and won the race with 10 seconds gap. 3. A cycle rider who wore an occlusal appliance to treat his malocclusion surpassed his old record from 10.8 seconds to 10.3 seconds. His muscle reflexes (anaerobic exercise) and endurance (aerobic exercise) has been enhanced. 4. Occlusal appliances had a good effect on athletic performance in most sports such as swimming, diving, and weightlifting. As for the clenching on dentition, people clench their teeth when they push their physical and mental limits during sports activities. Clenching can be induced by physical exertion when maximum muscle strength is retained and this is similarly found in different types of exercises. In addition, restraint of respiratory function is observed. Therefore, creating a occlusal balance with occlusal appliance or mouthguard promoted a favorable influence when an athlete clenches.

Effects of Bat Type on the Swing Motion of High School Baseball Athletes

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting two kinds of bat swing behavior through kinematic analysis. Method: A total of 32 high school baseball players participated in this study. The ball was placed on the tee-ball in a position where the subject could easily swing and the standard bat swing was performed as quickly and as accurately as possible using aluminum bats and wooden bats. Results: The aluminum bat showed a rapid swing speed of about 1.79 m/sec compared to the wooden bat. The speed of the batted ball was found to be significantly greater for the aluminum bat than for the wooden bat. In addition, although the difference between the shoulder-pelvis rotation angle according to the type of bat was not indicated, there was a statistically significant difference between the aluminum bat and the wooden bat in terms of the rotational angular velocity. Conclusion: Even though the results can explain the difference between the bat swing speed and the speed of the batted ball depending on the bat's material, it is difficult to explain the difference depending on the type of bat at the shoulder-pelvis rotation angle. However, shoulder-pelvic rotation angular velocity appears to be higher for the aluminum bat, and the differences in the type of bat is considered to be related to the batting swing factor.

국내 스포츠 은퇴 선수들의 광고 스타파워 효과성 검증 (Verification of advertising star power effectiveness of retired sports players in Korea)

  • 본 연구는 국내 스포츠 은퇴 선수들의 광고 스타파워 효과성을 검증하여 기업 및 광고 에이전시의 효율적인 광고 모델 전략을 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 했다. 따라서 국내 스포츠 은퇴 선수들이 광고 모델로 선정된 광고를 인지하고 있는 사람들을 표본으로 선정했으며, 206부의 자료를 최종분석에 적용했다. 자료처리는 SPSS(ver. 21.0) 프로그램으로 빈도 및 신뢰도 분석을 실시했다. 또한 AMOS(ver. 20.0) 프로그램으로 확인적 요인분석, 상관분석, 구조방정식 모형분석, 효과성의 유의성을 검증했다. 연구결과 첫째, 국내 스포츠 은퇴 선수들의 스타파워는 호감도에 긍정적인 영향이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 호감도는 광고 소비행동에 긍정적인 영향이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 스타파워는 광고 소비행동에 긍정적인 영향이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 스타파워는 광고 소비행동에 직접효과가 더 큰 것으로 나타났으며, 호감도는 부분매개효과가 있는 것으로 검증됐다.

Nutritional Knowledge, Attitudes, and Food Practices among Competitive Athletes, Recreational Athletes and Non-Participants

  • The objective of tole study was to compare nutritional knowledge, attitudes and food practices of competitive athletes, recreational athletes and non-participants. All students enrolled at the University of Nebraska in an Introductory Nutrition course in which sports nutrition was stressed, were asked to participate in the study. The course was typical of many introductory nutrition courses ; about two thirds of the students were from the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, and most of the students were encouraged to take this course by their advisers. The students were divided into three groups : 20 competitive athletes (mostly runners, swimmers, basketball players and football players for the University), 14 recreational athletes (who were involved in a planned exercise program at least 2 hours per week), and 19 non-participants. At the beginning of the semester, students completed a food frequency questionnaire, and a 24-hour food record based on the Food Guide Pyramid. A nutrition knowledge and attitude questionnaire was formulated specifically for this study, covering normal nutrition and sports nutrition. The results showed that consumption of foods from all Food Guide Pyramid food groups except the fats/oils/sweets group was not significantly different among the three student groups. Regarding the fats/oils/sweets group, competitive athletes consumed significantly more numbers of servings than recreational athletes, while the recreational athletes consumed significantly more than non-participants (p<0.01). The total mean scores from the nutrition attitude and knowledge questionnaire were not significantly different among the three student groups. However, combined athletes (competitive athletes and recreational athletes) obtained significantly higher scores on some of the nutrition attitude questions (p<0.05). The results of the study indicate that athletes, significantly lower scores on some of the nutrition knowledge questions (p<0.05). The results of the study indicate that athletes, whether competitive or recreational, had a very positive attitude regarding the effects of nutrition on their sports performance and health: however, these athletes did not appear to apply scientific principles of sports nutrition to their diet. In conclusion, advising athletes to simply increase or decrease their intakes of certain foods is too simplistic an approach for maintenance of good health and for better sporting performance. Athletes and non-athletes need continuous nutrition education to help with improving their competitive edge and food choices.

사회연결망 이론을 통한 여자필드하키 중심성분석 (A Study on Women's Field Hockey Centrality Analysis using Social Network Theory)

  • 본 연구는 리우올림픽에 참가한 대한민국과 상위4개국을 대상으로 슈팅서클 진입 시 마지막 5번의 패스를 통하여 핵심선수 파악하는 것이 목적이다. 1차적으로 스포츠코드를 활용하여 분석코드를 만들어 총33경기 중 대한민국과 상위4개국이 포함된 29경기를 대상으로 분석하였으며, 다음으로 Ucinet6를 활용하여 국가별 근접중심성 분석을 하였다. 연구결과는 대한민국은 FW인 13번, 뉴질랜드는 MF인 1번, 독일은 DF인 5번, 네덜란드는 MF인 9번, 영국은 MF인 8번 선수가 서클로 진입하는 패스연결망에서 핵심선수로 나타났다. 특히 결승전에 올라간 두 팀은 근접중심성 지수가 평균 60이 넘어갔음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 여자필드하키 경기분석에서 핵심선수를 파악하는 하나의 수단으로 활용되기를 기대해 본다.

프로 축구 팀의 월별 부상실태에 관한 조사 (Analysis of Seasonal Injuries in Professional Football Player)

  • 목적: 시즌이 있는 축구 운동에서 선수들의 가장 부상이 많은 시기와 그 부상의 유형을 알아보고 경기 관련 질환 발생을 미리 예견, 파악하여 적절한 예방책을 제시하고 향후 팀의 운영에 참고 자료를 제시 하고자 한다. 대상 및 방법: 서울의 모 프로 측구 팀(45명)을 대상으로 2005년 1월 15일부터 2005년 11월 9일까지 부상에 대한 통계를 내고, 월별 부상 빈도와 부상 유형을 살펴보았다. 결과: 총 157건의 부상이 발생했고, 훈련에 잠가하지 못할 정도의 부상은 87건 이었다. 월별 심각한 부상 건수는 3월에 16건 (18.4%)으로 가장 높게 나타났으며, 전, 후기 축구시즌인 3, 4, 8, 9월의 부상 건수가 46건으로 전체 부상의 52.9%를 차지하였다. 특히, 시즌 중에는 경기 중 경쟁적인 관계에서 접촉에 의해 족관절 염좌와 타박상으로 결장하는 회수가 많았다. 그리고 대퇴부 근육의 손상에 대한 치료가 적절히 이루어지지 못하여, 재손상의 위험도가 높았다. 결론: 부상이 많은 시즌중에는 선수에게 예방을 위한 교육을 시행함으로 팀의 경기력을 향상시킬 수 있을 것이다.

남자 운동선수의 기성복 재킷의 맞음새와 만족도 연구 (A Study on Fitness and Satisfaction of Ready-made Jackets for College Sportsmen)

  • Jacket is popular ready-made garment among college students in their early 20s. However, ready-made jackets, which are designed to fit normal people, are not likely to fit sportsmen well who have highly developed muscles in particular parts of their bodies. And muscle development is quite different among sportsmen according to the types of sports and bodily movements. Therefore, ready-made jackets can not be expected to fit sportsmen well as they fit normal people who have different shapes of bodies from sportsmen. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors of fitness and comfortableness of jackets for sportsmen in their early 20s according to the types of sports to provide basic data for designing suitable garments for them. Research method, 362 college sportsmen in their early 20s were surveyed from June 2nd 2009 to June 9th 2009, and 360 of them were processed statistically, with 2 of them having been discarded for lack of sincerity. Among Taekwondo players, Arm Length was the most complained part, among wrestlers, Biacromion Length was the most complained part, among fencers, 'Waist Circumference' was the most complained part, among swimmers, Biacromion Length was the most complained part, among apparatus gymnast, 'Hip Circumference' was the most complained part, among track athletes and handball players, more than 20% answered that the jackets did not fit them in every parts. It was understood that different sportsmen complained of particular parts of the jackets and that parts of the jacket should be adjusted according to bodily shapes of different sportsmen. This study was made to investigate the factors to be considered in producing ready-made jackets for college sportsmen. It is hoped that more patterns will be developed on the basis of the original form of jacket and the result of this study.
