HDD 스핀들 모터용 저널-스러스트 유체동압 베어링과 코니컬 유체동압 베어링의 특성해석비교 (Analysis of a Journal and Thrust FDB and a Conical FDB in the Spindle Motor of a Computer Hard Disk Drive)

  • This paper presents the comparison analysis of a Journal and thrust FDB (fluid dynamic bearing) and a conical FDB in a HDD spindle motor. The Reynolds equation is appropriately transformed to describe journal, thrust and conical bearing. Finite element method is applied to analyze the FDB by satisfying the continuity of mass and pressure at the interface between the hearings. The pressure field of the bearings is numerically approximated by applying the Reynolds boundary condition. The load and friction torque are obtained by integrating the pressure and the velocity gradient along the fluid film. The flying height of the spindle motor is measured to verify the proposed analytical result. This research shows that the conical bearing generates bigger load capacity and less friction torque than the journal and thrust bearing in a HDD spindle motor.

  • In this paper, the authors propose a new high performance Built-in Type spindle motor drive using vector-controlled technique at 15,000 r/min. Control method is changed by variation of motor speed in a conventional Built-in type spindle drive. In the drive system to be presented, the conventional vector control is used in the low-speed range, and the vector control without encoder is used in the high-speed range. Furthermore, in order to drive the motor from 0 to 15,000 rpm smoothly, the vector control with encoder in the low-speed range (from 0 to 8,000 rpm) is utilized and the vector control without encoder in the high-speed range (from 8,000 to 15,000 rpm) is utilized.   • This research investigates the electromechanical characteristics of a spindle motor in a free-falling mobile hard disk drive before unexpected shock. Electromechanical simulation includes a time-stepping finite element analysis of the magnetic field in a speed controlled brushless DC motor and dynamic analysis of the stationary and rotating part linked by the fluid dynamic bearing under the free-falling condition. Analysis results show that the dynamic characteristics of the rotating spindle system during free-falling state have an effect on the relative motion between the stationary and rotating part of HDD. It results from the variation of reaction force in the bearing area due to the gravity force exerted on the rotating part of HDD, and the free-falling condition can be detected by observing the signal of the spindle motor and disk-head interface without using an accelerometer.

  • 본 논문에서는 산업체 CNC(Computer Numerical Control) 분야에서 사용되는 빌트인 타입 스핀들 모터를 구동하기 위한 기법을 제시하였다. 저속 영역에서 유리한 전류 모델과 고속 영역에서 유리한 전압 모델을 혼합해서 사용하는 고피나스 모델 자속추정기는 회전자 자속추정을 위하여 이용하였다. 그리고 약계자 제어를 사용하여 스핀들 모터를 고속 운전하였다. 시뮬레이션과 실험을 통해 약계자 영역에서의 스핀들 모터 고속운전을 확인하였다.

  • Thermal characteristics according to the cooling methods are studied for the three type spindles with high frequency motor. For the analysis, three dimensional mode]s are built considering heat transfer characteristics such as natural and force convection coefficients. Unsteady-state temperature distributions and thermal deformations according to the cooling conditions are analyzed by using the finite element method.

  • This paper presents a strategy to drive built in-type spindle induction motor which is used as CNC (Computer Numerical Control) in the industrial world. The direct vector control which is robust to the changed machine parameters in the high speed range is used in this motor control method. And electrical model of induction motor presents the basic idea based on observer structure, which is composed of voltage model and current model. But the former has the defects in low speed range, the latter has the defects of sensitivity to motor parameter. Thus Gopinath model flux estimator which is the closed loop flux observer based on two models for the rotor flut estimation is used in this paper. Moreover this paper presents to drive the spindle motor in the high speed range by using the flux weakening control.

  • Internet provides the useful method to monitor the current states of the machine tool no matter where a personnel is monitoring them. In this paper, a monitoring method of the torque of the machine tool's spindle induction motor using internet is suggested. The torque of vector controlled induction motor is estimated without speed measuring sensor. Only stator currents are measured to estimate the magnetizing current which is used to calculate flux linkage, rotor velocity and motor torque. Graphical programming is used to implement the suggested algorithm, to monitor the torque of an induction motor in real time and to make the estimated torque monitored on client computers. To solve the fluctuation problem of estimated torque caused from instantly varying rotating speed of an induction motor, the rotating speed is reconstructed based on the measured current signals. Mechanical part of the machine tool is also reconstructed using the data obtained from preliminary experiments. Torque of the spindle induction motor is well monitored on the client computers with 3% error range under various cutting conditions.

  • This paper presents the thermal characteristic analysis of a high-speed HMC with spindle speed of 50,000rpm. The spindle is supported by two radial and axial magnetic bearings. and the built-in motor is located between the axial and rear radial magnetic bearings. The X-axis and Y-axis feeding systems are composed of linear motor and linear motion guides, and the Z-axis feeding system is composed of servo-motor, ballscrew and linear motion guide. The thermal analysis model of high-speed HMC is constructed by the finite element method, and the thermal characteristics in the design stage are estimated based on the temperature distribution and thermal deformation under the conditions related to the heat generation of built-in motor, magnetic bearings, linear motors, servo-motor, ballscrew, and so on.

CNC 선반에서의 절삭력 감지 시스템 개발 (Development of a Cutting Force Monitoring System for a CNC Lathe)

  • Monitoring of the cutting force signals in cutting process has been well emphasized in machine tool communities. Although the cutting force can be directly measured by a tool dynamometer, this method is not always feasible because of high cost and limitations in setup. In this paper an indirect cutting force monitoring system is developed so that the cutting force in turning process is estimated based on a AC spindle drive model. This monitoring system considers the cutting force as a disturbance input to the spindle drive and estimates the cutting force based on the inverse dynamic model. The inverse dynamic model represents the dynamic relation between the cutting force, the motor torque and the motor power. The proposed monitoring system is realized on a CNC lathe and its estimation performance is evaluated experimentally.
