We present a method of modeling lights from photographs taken with conventional imaging equipment. It does not use both any geometrical information and special apparatus to calculate surface reflection properties. To represent surface reflection properties of the scene, we use BRDFs which are calculated by radiance values of surface elements and light sources. And the BRDF data of each surface is further transformed to the spherical harmonic domain for efficient storage. Thus it allows to reconstruct the photo-realistic scene under different light sources, to manipulate diversely the arbitrary light source and to control exposure time of camera sensor. Moreover we test our algorithm with real image instead of synthetic image.
In order to produce high-quality optical components, aspheric lenses have been widely applied in recent years. An aspheric lens consists of aspheric surfaces instead of spherical ones, which causes difficulty in the design process as well as the manufacturing procedure. Although injection molding is widely used to fabricate optical lenses owing to its high productivity, there remains lots of difficulty to determine appropriate mold design factors and injection molding parameters. In the injection molding fields, computer simulation has been effectively applied to analyze processes based on the shell analysis so far. Considering the geometry of optical lenses, a full-3d simulation based on solid elements has been reported as a reliable approach. The present work covers three-dimensional injection molding simulation and relevant deformation analysis of an injection molded plastic lens based on 3d solid elements. Numerical analyses have been applied to the injection molding processes of three aspheric lenses for an image sensing module of a mobile phone. The reliability of the proposed approach has been verified in comparison with the experimental results.
The tin (IV) oxide nanoparticles are prepared by controlled precipitation method and calcined at temperatures of $200-600^{\circ}C$. The prepared $SnO_2$ nanoparticles characterized by XRD patterns, TEM image, IR and UV-Vis spectra. The XRD patterns and TEM image show the tetragonal structure and spherical morphology for $SnO_2$ nanoparticles, respectively. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared $SnO_2$ nanoparticles studied in degradation reaction of methylene blue (MB). The results show the size of nanoparticles, band-gap energy and photocatalytic activity of $SnO_2$ depends on the calcinations temperature. The $SnO_2$ nanoparticles calcined at $500^{\circ}C$ indicated the highest photoreactivity. Also, the zero-valent tin (ZVT) nanoparticles with tetragonal structure are prepared by a reducing agent and used as a catalyst in degradation of MB. In basic pH of 11, the degradation >95% of MB at time 150 min obtained at presence of ZVT nanoparticles.
This paper presents a novel rendering algorithm based on sperical coordinate representation of the object. The vertices of the object are transformed into the sperical coordinate system, and we construct additional maps: the centroid and index of the triangle, the memory access table. While OpenGL rendering pipeline touches all vertices of an object, the proposed method takes account of the only visible vertices by examining the visible triangles of the object. Simulation results demonstrated that the proposed method achieve an efficient rendering performace.
The purpose of this work was to apply geographical information system (GIS) for geostatistical analyzing by selecting a semi-variogram model to quantify the spatial correlation of the population distribution with residential neighborhoods in the both sides of Mosul city. Two hundred and sixty-eight sample sites in 240 ㎢ are adopted. After determining the population distribution with respect to neighborhoods, data were inserted to ArcGIS10.3 software. Afterward, the datasets was subjected to the semi-variogram model using ordinary kriging interpolation. The results obtained from interpolation method showed that among the various models, Spherical model gives best fit of the data by cross-validation. The kriging prediction map obtained by this study, shows a particular spatial dependence of the population distribution with the neighborhoods. The results obtained from interpolation method also indicates an unbalanced population distribution, as there is no balance between the size of the population neighborhoods and their share of the size of the population, where the results showed that the right side is more densely populated because of the small area of residential homes which occupied by more than one family, as well as the right side is concentrated in economic and social activities.
In this paper we report the method of visualizing and measuring the fluid flow within a small droplet of millimeter size. We use a vertical laser sheet in visualization of the micrometer size and special attention is given to the arrangement of microscope to obtain clear images. Then we use a PIV technique to measure the velocity of the internal flow from the images taken. Since the droplet is of spherical shape, the images represent highly deteriorated picture of the real objects due to the refraction phenomenon. In order to compensate the refraction, we in this study developed two kinds of methods for the real velocity. In the first method, the refracted images are directly used to obtain the velocity in the image space, and then the velocity is transformed to the real space. In the second method the images are first transformed to the real-space objects, and then the PIV is used to measure the velocity field. We compared the two results to prove the usefulness of the compensation technique.

We present a new scheme for optical encryption of a binary image. In our method, the original binary data page is first divided into two identical pages. In each data page, the “on” and “off” pixels are represented by two discrete phases that are 90° apart. The first page corresponds to the phase conjugation of the second page, and vice versa. In addition, the wavefront of the two data pages is changed simultaneously from planar to spherical, for better encryption. The wavefront modification is represented by an extra phase shift, which is a function of position on the wavefront. In this way the two separate pages are both encrypted, and therefore the pages cannot be distinguished in a CCD. If the first page is used as an encrypted data page, then the second page is used as the decryption key, and vice versa. The decryption can be done by simply combining the two encrypted data pages. It is shown in our experiment that encryption and decryption can be fully accomplished in the optical domain.
In this study, TiO2-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composite granules were prepared via spray drying technique. To investigate the effects of solid content and binder/powder ratio in the slurry on the granulation behavior of TiO2 powders, the feed compositions were designed to vary over a wide range. The morphology, actual densities, and average granule size and size distribution of the TiO2-PVA composite granules were characterized by using scanning electron microscopy technique, a gas pycnometer, and an image analyzing program (Image-J), respectively. The results indicate that solid content and the amount of PVA in the feedstock slurry are the dominant factors determining the granule morphology, size, and size distribution of TiO2-PVA composite. Moreover, it was observed that increasing the solid content and the amount of PVA in the slurry improved the granulation process and reduced the granule defects. For the preparation of spherical TiO2-PVA composite granules with the minimum amount of non-granulated powders, the optimized composition of the feedstock slurry was found to be 35 wt.% solid and 3 wt.% PVA.
Video mosaicing techniques have been widely used in virtual reality environments. Especially in GIS field, video mosaics are becoming more and more common in representing urban environments. Such applications mainly use spherical or panoramic mosaics that are based on images taken from a rotating camera around its nodal point. The viewpoint, however, is limited to location within a small area. On the other hand, 2D-mosaics, which are based on images taken from a translating camera, can acquire data in wide area. The 2D-mosaics still have some problems : it can‘t be applied to images taken from a rotational camera in large angle. To compensate those problems , we proposed a novel method for creating video mosaics in 3D space. The proposed algorithm consists of 4 steps: feature -based optical flow detection, camera orientation, 2D-image projection, and image registration in 3D space. All of the processes are fully automatic and successfully implemented and tested with real images.
