Open steel plate girder (OPSG) bridges are the most prevalent railroad bridge type in Korea, constituting about 40% of all railroad bridges. Solid steel bearings, known as line type bearings, are placed in most OSPG railway bridges. However, the line type rigid bearings generate several problems with the bridge's dynamic behavior and maintenance in service. To compare and investigate the dynamic behaviors of line type, spherical and disk bearings, the vertical displacements of each bearing, including fixed and expansion type, under running vehicles are measured and analyzed. The displacements of disk and spherical bearings are measured after replacing the line type bearings with spherical and disk bearings. This study also analyzed dynamic behaviors of bridges. Furthermore, the deformation of the PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) plate that is placed inside of expansion type spherical and disk bearings is measured and its effect on the dynamic behavior of the bridges is discussed. The up-lift phenomenon at the bearings installed for the steel bridges is estimated. The vertical displacements at mid-span of the bridges are compared according to the bearing types. Finally, the 1st mode natural frequencies are estimated, and the relationship to the vertical displacement is discussed.
Stability of the barotropic Rossby-Haurwitz wave is investigated using the numerical models on the global domain. The Rossby-Haurwitz wave under investigation is composed of the basic zonal flow of super-rotation and a finite amplitude spherical harmonic wave. The Rossby-Haurwitz wave is given as either steady or unsteady wave by adjusting the strength of the super-rotating zonal flow. Stability as well as the growth rate of the wave in the numerical simulation is determined by comparing the perturbation amplitude at two different time stages. Unstable modes of the Rossby-Haurwitz wave exhibited a horizontal structure composing of various zonal-wavenumber components. The vorticity perturbation for some modes showed a discontinuity around the area of weak flow, which was found robust regardless of the horizontal resolution of the model. Fourier finite element model was shown to generate the unstable mode in earlier stage of the time integration due to less accuracy compared to the spherical harmonic spectral model. Taking the overall accuracy of the models into consideration, the time by which the unstable mode begin to dominate over the spherical harmonic wave was estimated.
In this paper, we propose an image analysis system based on omnidirectional image and object tracking image display using super wide angle camera. In order to generate spherical images, the projection process of converting from two wide-angle images to the equirectangular panoramic image was performed and the spherical image was expressed by converting rectangular to spherical coordinate system. Object tracking was performed by selecting the desired object initially, and KCF(Kernelized Correlation Filter) algorithm was used so that robust object tracking can be performed even when the object's shape is changed. In the initial dialog, the file and mode are selected, and then the result is displayed in the new dialog. If the object tracking mode is selected, the ROI is set by dragging the desired area in the new window.

This work deals with kinematic analysis of fault-tolerant 3 degree-of-freedom spherical modules which have force redundancies in its parallel structure. The performance of a redundantly actuated four-legged module with no actuator failure, a single actuator failure, partial and half failure of dual actuator are compared to that of a three-legged module, in terms of maximum force transmission ratio, isotropic characteristics, and fault-tolerant capability. Additionally, a system with an excess number of small floating actuators is considered, and the contribution of these small actuators to the force transmission and fault-tolerant capability is evaluated. This study illustrates that the redundant actuation mode allows significant saving of input actuation effort, and also delivers a fault tolerance.
A continuously variable transmission (CVT) with an inner spherical traction drive was conceptually designed for bicycle usage. The range of the overall speed ratio is from 1.0 to 4.5. The rated power and pedal speed are 100 Watts and 6 rad/s, respectively. The peculiar packageability, high-level power efficiency and high torque capacity were considered in the design process. A compact CVT that can be installed within a $244\times125\times160mm^3$ space and is above 0.9 in efficiency for the rated values was numerically designed. The distribution of efficiency according to the input torque and input speed were calculated. Gradeability in the prescribed operation mode was simulated.

The volumetric interferometer, which uses the interference of wavefronts emitted from two single mode fibers, measures the target position in 3-D. In this paper, we suggest a new calculation method which doesn't need a non-linear optimization and an initial guess. We find the relationship between the coefficients of the Zernike polynomials for a spherical wavefront and its center and reconstruct a spherical wavefront by using the Zernike polynomials from two interference fringes like a lateral shearing interferometer. The target position can be obtained from the coefficients of the Zernike polynomials of the reconstructed wavefront. We can get the target position in 3-D with $sub-{\mu}m$ errors in a simulation.

The receptance method was applied for the analysis of a cylindrical shell with a spherical cap attached at an arbitrary axial position of the shell. The boundary condition of the shell considered here was clamped-free condition. Before the analysis of the shell/spherical cap combined structure, natural frequencies of the cap and the shell were calculated separately and then they were used in the calculation of the frequencies of the combined structure by the receptance method. In the present research, the free vibration analysis of functionally graded (FG) nanocomposite deep spherical shells reinforced by graphene platelets (GPLs) on elastic foundation is performed. The elastic foundation is assumed to be Winkler-Past ernak-type. It is also assumed that graphaene platelets are randomly oriented and uniformly dispersed in each layer of the nanocomposite shell. Volume fraction of the graphene platelets as nanofillers may be different in the layers. The modified HalpinTsai model is used to approximate the effective mechanical properties of the multilayer nanocomposite. With the aid of the first order shear deformation shell theory and implementing Hamilton's principle, motion equations are derived. Afterwards, the generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) is utilized to study the free vibration characteristics of FG-GPLRC spherical shell. To assess the validity and accuracy of the presented method, the results are compared with the available researches. Finally, the natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes are provided for different boundary conditions, GPLs volume fraction, types of functionally graded, elastic foundation coefficients, opening angles of shell, and thickness-to-radius ratio.

Interfacial shear strength between epoxy and carbon fiber was analyzed utilizing a hemi-spherical microbond specimens adhered onto single carbon fiber. The hemi-spherical microbond specimen showed high regression coefficient and small standard deviation in the measurement of interfacial strength as compared with a droplet and an inverse hemi-spherical one. This seemed to be caused by the reduced meniscus effects and the reduced stress concentration In the region contacting with a pin-hole loading device. Finite element analysis showed that the stress distributions along the fiber/matrix interface in the hemi-spherical specimen had a stable shear stress distribution along the interface without any stress mode change. The experimental data was also different according to the kinds of loading device such as the microvise-tip and the pin-holed plate.
