A Spectrum Sharing Model for Compatibility between IMT-Advanced and Digital Broadcasting

  • Recently, the International Telecommunication Union allocated the 470-862 MHz band to the digital broadcasting (DB) service. Moreover, the 790-862 MHz sub-band will be allocated to the next-generation mobile system, known as the International Mobile Telecommunication - Advanced (IMT-A), and to the DB on a co-primary basis in the year 2015. Currently, two candidate technologies are available to represent the IMT-A system; the Mobile WiMAX and Long Term Evolution - Advanced (LTE-A). One of the main criteria of the IMT-A candidate is to not cause additional interference to the primary service (i.e., DB). In this paper, we address the spectrum sharing issue between the IMT-A candidates and the DB service. More precisely, we investigate the interference effect between the DB service and the mobile network, which could be either LTE-A or WiMAX. Our study proposes a spectrum sharing model to take into account the impact of interference and evaluates the spectrum sharing requirements such as frequency separation and separation distance. This model considers three spectrum sharing scenarios: co-channel, zero guard band, and adjacent channel. A statistical analysis is performed, by considering the interferer spectrum emission mask and victim receiver blocking techniques. The interference-to-noise ratio is used as an essential spectrum sharing criterion between the systems. The model considers the random distribution of the users, antenna heights, and the bandwidth effect as well as the deployment environment in order to achieve spectrum sharing. The results show that LTE-A is preferable to WiMAX in terms of having less interference impact on DB; this can eventually allow the operation of both services without performance degradation and thus will lead to efficient utilization of the radio spectrum.

  • Electronic photodepletion spectrum of dibenzo-18-crown-6 with a potassium ion ($K^+$-DB18C6) was obtained in the gas phase using electrospray ionization and quadrupole ion-trap reflectron time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The spectrum exhibited rather a broad absorption band at 36350 $cm^{-1}$, which was tentatively assigned as the origin of the S1 band. The photodepletion spectrum of $Cs^+$-DB18C6 was also obtained to elaborate the effects of metal cations on electronic and geometric structures of metal cation-DB18C6 complexes. We found that the S1 band of $Cs^+$-DB18C6 was red-shifted by 180 $cm^{-1}$ from that of $K^+$-DB18C6. With the results of quantum theoretical calculations using the density functional theory, we suggested that the red-shift arose mainly from weaker binding of $Cs^+$ to DB18C6 than that of K+, which resulted from a larger size of $Cs^+$ than that of the cavity in DB18C6.

Comparison of ERG Denoising Performance according to Mother Function of Wavelet Transforms (웨이브렛 변환의 모함수에 따른 ERG의 잡음제거 성능 비교)

  • Purpose. Noise occurs at measuring Electoretinogram(ERG) signals as the other bio-signal measurement. It is compared the denoising performance according to the mother function of wavelet transforms. Methods. The ERG signal that generated power supply noise and white noise was used as a sampling signal. The noise of ERG signal was filtered by using haar, db7, bior mother function. The filtering performance of each mother functions was compared using Fourier transform spectrum and SNR(signal to noise ratio). Results. In the haar functioin, the result of the Fourier transform spectrum was that the power supply noise is removed and the white noise performance is not good. The SNR was 27.0404. In the db7 function, the results of Fourier transform spectrum was that the power supply noise is removed and the white noise performance is good. The SNR was 35.1729. In the db7 function, the results of Fourier transform spectrum was that the power supply noise is removed and the white noise performance is the bset. The SNR was 35.4445. Conclusions. The db7, bior function was good results in power supply noise and white noise filtered. The bior function is suitable for filtering noise of the ERG signal.

Spectrum Sharing Method for Cognitive Radio in TV White Spaces: Enhancing Spectrum Sensing and Geolocation Database

  • This paper proposes a system called Wireless Link based on Global Communication Channel (WLGCC) to enhance the spectrum sharing between digital broadcasting (DB) services and the cognitive radio (CR) system in the licensed band of 470-790 MHz. The WLGCC aims to enhance the spectrum sensing and geolocation database (GLD) spectrum sharing methods in the CR system. Spectrum sensing can be enhanced by receiving the status of the used frequencies from the WLGCC, thereby eliminating the need for a low detection threshold (i.e., avoiding the hidden node problem). In addition, the GLD can be enhanced by providing a reliable communication link between the database and the CR device in the form of an unused TV white space that is reserved as the proposed Global Communication Channel (GCC). This paper analyzes the coexistence of the new WLGCC system and the DB service in terms of avoiding additional interference. Specifically, we mathematically determine the WLGCC parameters, such as the in-band and out-of-band power levels, and operation coverage, and verify them using Monte Carlo simulation. The results show that WLGCC does not degrade the existing DB service and reliably transmits information of the vacant (or used) frequency bands to the CR.

  • Due to the development of spectrum use technology and various services based on radio spectrum, the scarcity of spectrum has been heightened. In this circumstances both the efficiency and fairness of spectrum use need to be raised. Open spectrum access can be a useful approach for both goal. For the open spectrum access the legal institution needs to be reformed to enable it. From the starting point of spectrum use till the end of spectrum use there can be various issues of rights and obligations. So the legal institution for various legal status of spectrum use and establishment and continuous management of DB and fast and respectable dispute resolution mechanism is required.

  • We have made disperse diazo black D(DB-D) ultrathin films using Langmur-Blodgett(LB) and vacuum-evaporation technique. Physical and electrical properties of the films were investigated. Solution was made with a concentration of 10$^{-3}$ mol/$\ell$ using chloroform. Moving wall apparatus (NL-LB140 S-MWC) was employed to make the LB films. X,Y and Z-type LB films were manufactured and studied by UV/visible absorbance spectra and morphology of surface using atomic force microscopy. Vacuum-evaporated DB-D think films were made at a pressure of 10$^{-5}$ torrr. The absorption peaks appear at 200 and 40nm in the LB films and vacuum-deposited films. And we have studied photoluminescence spectrum of the DB-D films. Also TGA and DSC properties of the DB-D have been observed and current -voltage characteristics of the DB-D LB films have been measured along the perpendicular direction.

A New Power Spectrum Warping Approach to Speaker Warping (화자 정규화를 위한 새로운 파워 스펙트럼 Warping 방법)

  • The method of speaker normalization has been known as the successful method for improving the accuracy of speech recognition at speaker independent speech recognition system. A frequency warping approach is widely used method based on maximum likelihood for speaker normalization. This paper propose a new power spectrum warping approach to making improvement of speaker normalization better than a frequency warping. Th power spectrum warping uses Mel-frequency cepstrum analysis(MFCC) and is a simple mechanism to performing speaker normalization by modifying the power spectrum of Mel filter bank in MFCC. Also, this paper propose the hybrid VTN combined the Power spectrum warping and a frequency warping. Experiment of this paper did a comparative analysis about the recognition performance of the SKKU PBW DB applied each speaker normalization approach on baseline system. The experiment results have shown that a frequency warping is 2.06%, the power spectrum is 3.06%, and hybrid VTN is 4.07% word error rate reduction as of word recognition performance of baseline system.

  • This paper deals with the method to classify the aircraft target by analyzing its JEM signal. We propose the method to classify the engine model by analyzing JEM spectrum using the harmonic frequency mask generated from the blade information of jet engine. The proposed method does not need the complicated logic algorithm to find the chopping frequency in each rotor stage and the pre-simulated engine spectrum DB used in the previous methods. In addition, we propose the method to estimate the precise spool rate and it reduces the error in estimating the number of blades or in calculating the harmonic frequency of frequency mask.

  • 지역별로 존재하는 유휴 TV 방송채널을 이용한 비면허 방식 무선접속 서비스의 도입이 미국을 중심으로 구체화되어가고 있다. 고정형 및 휴대/개인형 단말을 이용한 서비스를 도입하는 미국 FCC의 최종 결정이 2009년 2월 공시된 후, IEEE802.22 WRAN WG이 추가로 휴대/개인형 서비스를 표준제정을 추진 중이고, 이와 별도로 IEEE802.11 무선랜 WG에서는 기존 무선랜 표준을 TV대역까지 확장한 방식의 표준화를 추진하고 있다. 본 고 에서는 TV대역을 활용한 서비스 도입에 필수적인 기존사용자 보호 방안에 대하여, FCC의 최종결정에 포함된 스펙트럼 센싱 및 Geolocation과 결합한 DB이용 방안을 중심으로, 기술적인 이슈들에 대하여 논하고자 한다.

$a-Si_{1-x}Ge_x:H$ 박막의 고상결정화에 따른 스핀밀도의 변화

  • 다결정 실리콘-게르마늄(poly-SiGe)은 태양전지 및 TFT-LCD와 같은 소자 응용에 있어서 중요하게 연구되고 있는 물질이다. 우리는 수소화된 비정질 실리콘-게르마늄 (a-Si1-xGex:H) 박막을 증착시키고 고상결정화시키며 XRD(x-ray diffraction) 및 ESR (electron spin resonance) 측정을 수행하였다. PECVD 증착가스는 SiH4과 GeH4가스를 사용하였고 Ge의 성분비는 x=0.0, 0.1, 0.5 정도로 조절되었다. 기판은 Corning 1737 glass를 사용하였고, 기판 온도는 20$0^{\circ}C$ 이었다. 증착압력과 r.f. 전력은 각각 0.6Torr와 3W이었다. 증착된 SiGe 박막은 고상결정화를 위해 $600^{\circ}C$ N2 분위기에서 가열되고, 그에 따른 XRD 및 ESR spectrum의 변화를 관찰하였다. ESR 측정은 X-band 그리고 상온에서 행해졌다. 먼저 XRD 측정으로부터 박막의 고상결정화 정도를 알 수 있었고, 고상결정화 과정이 초기 핵형성 단계와 결정화 단계, 그리고 더 이상 결정화가 일어나지 않는 완료 단계로 구분될 수 있음을 보여주었다. X값이 증가함에 따라 결정화 시간은 훨씬 단축되었다. ESR로 측정된 스핀 밀도는 a-Si1-xGex:H 박막이 처음 가열됨에 따라 전체적으로 크게 증가했다가, 결정화가 일어나면서 다시 감소하여 나중에는 거의 변화가 없었다. ESR 신호의 초기 증가는 수소 이탈에 의한 dangling bond의 증가에 기인하며, 다음 단계의 감소 및 안정 상태는 결정화에 따른 결정경계 영역의 감소와 결함들의 안정성에 기인하는 것으로 생각된다. 그러나 흥미로운 것은 Si1-xGex 합금의 경우 가열시간이 증가됨에 따라 Si-db(Si-dangling bond)와 Ge-db에 의한 신호가 서로 분리되어 나타났으며, 이 Si-db 스핀 밀도와 Ge-db 스핀밀도의 변화정도는 x값에 크게 의존함을 보여준 것이다. 즉 순수한 a-Si:H의 경우 Si-db 의 스핀밀도의 증가시간은 4시간 정도였고, 그리고 다시 감소하였으며, x=0.1 인 박막에서 Si-db와 Ge-db의 변화 시간은 순수 S-db 변화의 경우와 거의 유사하였다. 그러나 x=0.5 샘플에서는 Si-db의 변화가 빨라져서 0.1 시간 안에 증가되었고, Ge-db의 변화는 더 빠르게 수 분 동안에 증가 된후 다시 감소하였다. 이것은 수소의 Si에 대한 친화력 뿐 만아니라 Si-H과 Ge-H 결합에너지가 주위 원자들의 구성에 크게 영향받을 수 있는 가능성을 제시해준다.
