A new series of Mn(II) and Mo(VI) complexes containing the Schiff bases hydrazinecarbothioamide and hydrazinecarboxamide of 5,6-dimethyl-1H-indol-2,3-dione have been synthesized. The nature of bonding and the stereochemistry of the complexes have been deduced from elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations and spectral studies viz. electronic IR, ESR, $^1H$ NMR and $^{13}C$ NMR and X-ray diffraction spectral studies. The magnetic moment values of the manganese(II) complexes are in the range of 5.80-6.15 B.M. suggesting a high spin state of manganese in these complexes. The spectral data are consistent with a tetrahedral geometry around Mn(II) and an octahedral geometry for Mo(VI), in which the ligands act as bidentate chelating agents, coordinated through the nitrogen and sulfur/oxygen atoms. The ligands and their metal complexes have been tested against a number of pathogenic fungi and bacteria at different concentrations and were found to possess sufficient fungicidal and bactericidal properties. Further, the complexes were also tested for their antifertility activity in male albino rats and the results were indeed positive.
Dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes, MoO$_2$(H-Sal-R)$_2$, R; arylamines, have been synthesized by reactions of dioxobis (salicylaldehydato) molybdenum(VI) with various primary amines. These complexes have been characterized by electric conductivity and spectroscopic studies. Infrared, uv-vis, and proton nmr spectra show that the complexes are six-coordinated with cis-MoO$_2$ group. And mass spectra indicates that the combining ratios for Mo (VI)-ligand are 1 : 2. They are yellow, stable for a considerably long time in the atmosphere at room temperature and slightly soluble in alcohol, dichloromethane and dimethylformamide but insoluble in benzene, ether and carbon tetrachloride.
We have synthesized a water-soluble polyimide precursor, poly(amic acid) amine salt (PAD), from pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA), 4,4'-oxydianiline, and N,N -dimethylethanolamine (DMEA) and have investigated in detail its properties with respect to the degree of salt formation (D$\_$sf/). The maximum value of D$\_$sf/ we obtained upon precipitation of the precursor solution into acetone was 79%. We synthesized a PAD having a D$\_$sf/ of 100% (PAD100) by the solid state drying of an organic solution. The precursors showed different solubility depending on the D$\_$sf/ to make up to 4 wt% solutions in water containing a small amount of DMEA. PAD100 is completely soluble in pure water. We investigated the imidization behavior of PAD in aqueous solution using various spectroscopic methods, which revealed that PAD 100 has faster imidization kinetics relative to that of the poly(amic acid)-type precursors. The resulting polyimide films prepared from an aqueous precursor solution possess almost similar physical and thermal properties as those prepared from N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone(NMP) solution. Therefore, we have demonstrated that PAD can be used as a water-based precursor of polyimide; this procedure avoids the use of toxic organic solvents, such as NMP.
In the course of screening for ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitor produced by microorganism, the active compound was isolated from the culture filtrate of Bacillus sp. SKU31-1 using a series of chromatography procedures. The structure of the active compound was elucidated as 5-amino-1-hydroxymethyl-1, 2, 3, 4-cyclohexanetetrol on the basis of spectroscopic evidence obtained and comparison with data from the literature. The active compound showed potent inhibitory activity against ${\alpha}$-glucosidase with an $IC_{50}$ value of $1.9{\mu}M$ for maltose and 4.9 mM for sucrose. A Lineweaver-Burk plot indicated that its inhibition of ${\alpha}$-glucosidase was competitive, with a $K_i$ value of 0.15 mM.

Perylene-based pyrrolopyrone derivative (PPD) was synthesized via condensation reaction with perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride and 1,2-phenylenediarnine as n-type channel material. The structure of PPD was characterized by spectroscopic methods such FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR. PPD exhibited high thermal stability ($T_{d5wt%}: 560^{\circ}C$) and was found to be soluble only in protonic solvents with high acidity such as methane sulfonic acid and trifluoroacetic acid. The PPD solution showed maximum absorption and emission at 601 and 628 nm, respectively. Thin film transistors were fabricated by vacuum deposition and solution casting method. The electron mobilities of the devices were achieved as high as $0.17{\times}10^{-6}cm^2/Vs$ for vacuum deposited device and $0.4{\times}10^{-6}cm^2/Vs$ for spin coated device, respectively.
A solid-state reaction of $V_2O_5$ with AlMCM-41 followed by calcinations generated $V^{5+}$ species in the mesoporous materials. Dehydration results in the formation of a vanadyl species, $VO^{2+}$, that can be characterized by electron spin resonance (ESR). The chemical environment of the vanadium centers in V-AlMCM-41 was investigated by XRD, EDX, diffuse reflectance UV-VIS, ESR, $^{29}Si,\;^{27}Al,\;and\;^{51}V$ NMR. It was found that the vanadium species on the wall surface and inside the wall of the hexagonal tubular wall of the V-AlMCM-41 were completely oxidized to tetrahedral $V^{5+}$ and transformed to square pyramidal by additional coordination to water molecules upon hydration. The oxidized $V^{5+}$ species on the wall surfaces and inside the wall were also reversibly reduced to $VO^{2+}$ species or lower valences by thermal process.

Phytochemical investigation on the ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions of Moutan Cortex resulted in the isolation and characterization of a new monoterpene glycoside (3) and twenty known monoterpene glycosides (1, 2, 4-21). The structure of 3 was determined by spectroscopic data interpretation and physico-chemical properties. Compounds 1 and 8 presented a remarkable inhibitory activity against lipoxygenase-1 (LOX-1) with $IC_{50}$ values of 45.2 and $37.5\;{\mu}M$, respectively. Compounds 9, 10, 13, 18, 19, and 21 showed significant 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging effect with $IC_{50}$ values of 9.8, 25.5, 6.4, 15.2, 18.7, and $23.7\;{\mu}M$, respectively. Benzoylpaeoniflorin (8), which exhibited the highest inhibitory effect with an $IC_{50}$ value of $37.5{\pm}0.7{\mu}M$, was further analyzed the inhibition kinetics by Lineweaver-Burk plots. Results indicated that 8 is a non-competitive inhibitor, and the kinetic parameter values were estimated to be ($31.04\;{\mu}M$, Ki), ($0.29\;{\mu}M/min$, $V_m$), and ($48.50\;{\mu}M$, $K_m$).

Oxide-based thin film transistors have been attempted as powerful candidates for driving circuits for active-matrix organic light-emitting diodes and transparent electronics. The oxide TFTs are based on the amorphous multi-component oxides involving zinc, indium, and/or tin elements as main cation sources. The current work employed RF sputtering in order to deposit zinc-tin oxide thin films applicable to transparent oxide thin film transistors. The deposited thin film was characterized and probed in terms of materials and devices. The physical/chemical characterizations were performed using X-ray diffraction, Atomic Force Microscopy, Spectroscopic Ellipsometry, and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The thin film transistors were fabricated using a bottom-gated structure where thermally-grown silicon oxide layers were applied as gate-dielectric materials. The inherent properties of oxide thin films are combined with the corresponding device performances with the aim to fabricating the multi-component oxide thin films being optimized towards transparent electronics.

This study was carried out to find new antitumor agents from plant resource. Three cytotoxic agents were isolated from the root of Dictamnus albus by hexane extraction, silica gel column chromatography and HPLC. They were identified to be dictamnine $(C_{12}H_9NO_2)$, preskimmianine $(C_{17}H_{21}NO_4)$ and fraxinellone $(C_{14}H_{16}O_3)$ on the basis of spectroscopic evidences. In this study, it was newly found that these compounds possess a cytotoxic activity against lung lymphoma L1210 cell line. Among them. Preskimmianine was the most potent against the lymphoma L1210 with a $IC_{50}$ of $3.125\;{\mu}g/ml\;(10.3\;{\mu}M)$. Toxicity of preskimmianine against normal Iymphocyte was observed at the concentration of $50\;{\mu}g/ml\;(165\;{mu}M)$. These results support the pharmacological role of D. albus, a herb known as Paeksun in Korea and used as an anticancer agent in folk medicine.

We synthesized molybdenum thin films deposited by RF magnetron sputtering and physicochemical analysis was performed. The physical and chemical properties of these films were examined with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The obtained film at the oxygen ratio of 0% showed crystallinity of cubic Mo(110) phase. After the oxygen ratio increased more than 5% in the sputter gas, the molybdenum films were formed as an amorphous phase. The thickness of the Mo thin film was drastically decreased from 1000 nm to ca 70 nm after introduction of oxygen in the sputter gas confirmed by spectroscopic ellipsometer (SE) and scanning electron spectroscopy (SEM). The calculated band gap of the film deduced from SE data increased from 3.17 to 3.63 eV by addition of oxygen in the sputter gas. The roughness of the Mo film was examined with atomic force microscopy (AFM) and it was dramatically decreased by introducing of oxygen during sputtering. XPS results revealed that the ratio of metallic Mo species in the film decreased by the contents of Mo(VI) species increased at the ratio of oxygen increased in the sputter gas and fully oxidized at low content of oxygen in the sputter gas.
