In this study, we examined chromospheric oscillation signatures in two solar active regions, a limb active region and a sunspot with a light bridge, observed by the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS) of the 1.6m New Solar Telescope (NST) at Big Bear Solar Observatory. The FISS is a slit spectrograph with a fast imaging capability and can observe the solar chromosphere in $H{\alpha}$ and Ca II $8542{\AA}$ bands simultaneously with high spectral resolutions. After dark and flat correction, we compensated for image rotation at the Coude focus and made image alignment. We estimated Doppler shifts over active regions using the bisector method and investigated the temporal and spatial fluctuations of Doppler shifts for some selected cases. And we obtain the power map by using the Lomb-Scargle periodogram technique to examine the oscillation power at different features. Finally, we will discuss our results and implications.

The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) and the Department of Astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin (UT) are developing a near infrared wide-band high resolution spectrograph, IGRINS (Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrograph). The white-pupil design of the instrument optics uses 7 cryogenic mirrors including 3 aspherical off-axis collimators and 4 flat fold mirrors. Two of the 3 collimators are H- and K-band pupil transfer mirrors and they are designed as compensators for the system alignment in each channel. Therefore, their mount design will be one of the most sensitive parts in the IGRINS optomechanical system. The design work will include the computer-aided 3D modeling and finite element analysis (FEA) to optimize the structural stability of the mount models. The mount body will also include a tip-tilt and translation adjustment mechanism to be used as the alignment compensators.

IGRINS (Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrometer) is a high resolution wide-band infrared spectrograph developed by Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) and the University of Texas at Austin (UT). The slit-viewing camera is one of four re-imaging optics in IGRINS including the input relay optics and the H- and K- band spectrograph cameras. Consisting of five lenses and one Ks-band filter, the slit viewing camera relays the infrared image of $2'{\times}2'$ field around the slit to the detector focal plane. Since IGRINS is a cryogenic instrument, the lens barrel is designed to be optimized at the operating temperature of 130 K. The barrel design also aims to achieve easy alignment and assembly. We use radial springs and axial springs to support lenses and lens spacers against the gravity and thermal contraction. Total weight of the lens barrel is estimated to be 1.2 kg. Results from structural analysis are presented.
We review the early historical developement of astronomical spectrographs, properties of emission line spectra of HII regions in spiral galaxies, and absorption line features of galactic globular clusters. Emission line spectra of HII regions within three spiral galaxies NGC 300, NGC 1365, and NGC 7793, which were observed from AAT/IPCS, had been analysed, and we discuss the abundances of elements in HII regions and the radial abundace gradients through the galaxies. The radial UBV color variations of two globular clusters, NGC 1851 and NGC 2808, were examined for correlations with radial variations of several absorption lines in the integrated spectra, which were obtained from SAAO 74 inch telescope and image tube spectrograph. Nine giant star's spectra in NGC 3201 were also obtained and analysed for the radial abundance gradients in the globular cluster. The results show that the presence of a radial color gradient in a globular cluster is correlated with the presence of abundance gradients. Finally, we suggest some scientific programs for the new high dispersion spectrograph, which will be installed to the BOAO 1.8m telescope.

We developed an observation control software for the IGRINS (Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrograph) silt-viewing camera module, which points the astronomical target onto the spectroscopy slit and sends tracking feedbacks to the telescope control system. The point spread function (PSF) is not always symmetric. In addition, bright targets are easily saturated and shown as a donut shape. It is not trivial to define and find the center of the asymmetric PSF especially on a slit mask. We made a center balancing algorithm (CBA) following the concept of median. The CBA derives the expected center position along the slit-width axis by referencing the stray flux ratios of both upper and lower sides of the slit. We compared efficiencies of the CBA and those of a two-dimensional Gaussian fitting (2DGA) through simulations from observation images in order to evaluate the center finding algorithms. Both of the algorithms are now applied in observation and users can select the algorithm.
FIMS (Far-ultraviolet IMaging Spectrograph) is the main payload of STSAT-1 satellite which was successfully launched on September 27, 2003. The optical system of FIMS consists of two sets of parabolic cylinder mirror, slit, ellipsoidal reflection grating, and baffle system. We designed two types of baffle system for the FIMS: FOV baffle and order baffle. FOV baffle in the mirror house controls the field of view, and the order baffle in the vacuum box blocks the rays reflected rays by different orders.

We present the results of high-resolution optical (R ~ 30,000) and near-infrared (R ~ 45,000) spectroscopic monitoring observations of a new FU Orionis-like young stellar object, 2MASS J06593158-0405277. FU Orionis objects (FUors) are well-studied examples of episodic accretion because of their outburst phenomenon. Recently, 2MASS J06593158-0405277 exhibited an outburst and was identified as an FUor. It provides an important opportunity to investigate the whole FUors phenomenon from its pre-outburst to its post-outburst phase. We observed 2MASS J06593158-0405277 with the Bohyunsan Optical Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) of the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO) and the Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrograph (IGRINS) of Harlan J. Smith Telescope (HJST) at the McDonald observatory since December 24, 2014. We detected a number of lines and present here our analysis for time variations of those spectral lines.
To investigate the properties of the narrow-line regions and the accretion disks of YRGs, we study a sample of 28 young radio galaxies (YRGs) observed with the Kast Double Spectrograph at the Shane 3-m telescope and with the DBSP (Double Spectrograph for the Palomar 200-inch Telescope) at Palomar observatory. In addition we collect an addition sample of 15 YRGs with the optical spectra from the SDSS archive. We present the measured narrow-line region properties based on the various emission line ratios, i.e., [O III]/$H{\beta}$, [N II]/$H{\alpha}$, [S II] 6716/6731, [O I]/[O III], [O II]/[O III] and [Ar III]/[O III], which are useful to constrain the gas properties and the states of the accretion disk. We will discuss the characteristics of YRG.
Using the K-band Multi-object Spectrograph (KMOS) at the Very Large Telescope (VLT), the KMOS Redshift One Spectroscopic Survey (KROSS) has gathered integral-field data for ~800 star-forming galaxies at a redshift z~1, when the universe was roughly half its current age and forming the bulk of its stars. With spatially-resolved observations, KROSS reveals galaxies that are both gas-rich and highly turbulent. It is possible to derive the observed and baryonic Tully-Fisher (luminosity - rotation velocity) relations, thus constraining the mass-to-light ratios and total (luminous + dark) masses of the galaxies. This in turn highlights the dependence of the relation zero-point on the degree of rotational support of the galaxies (rotational velocity to velocity dispersion ratio). By degrading and analogously analysing integral-field data of hundreds of local galaxies from the Sydney-AAO Multi-object Integral-field Spectrograph (SAMI) survey, a robust comparison z=0 Tully-Fisher relation can also be derived, thus further constraining the luminous and dark mass growth of disk galaxies over the last 7 billions years. This unique comparison also reveals that systematic effects associated with sample selection and analysis methods are as large as the effects expected from cosmological evolution, and thus that most other comparisons employing heterogeneous data and/or methods can safely be ignored.
In this paper, we evaluated prediction accuracy of Euler angle spectrograph classification method using a convolutional neural networks (CNN) for hand gesture recognition in augmented reality (AR) cognitive rehabilitation system based on Leap Motion Controller (LMC). Hand gesture recognition methods using a conventional support vector machine (SVM) show 91.3% accuracy in multiple motions. In this paper, five hand gestures ("Promise", "Bunny", "Close", "Victory", and "Thumb") are selected and measured 100 times for testing the utility of spectral classification techniques. Validation results for the five hand gestures were able to be correctly predicted 100% of the time, indicating superior recognition accuracy than those of conventional SVM methods. The hand motion recognition using CNN meant to be applied more useful to AR cognitive rehabilitation training systems based on LMC than sign language recognition using SVM.
