  • The effectiveness of fluid viscous dampers (FVDs) on dynamic response mitigation of coupled two adjacent structures was investigated, considering soil-structure interaction (SSI) effects under earthquake excitation. A numerical procedure was employed to evaluate system response. The finite elements were used for the numerical treatment of the adjacent buildings and soil region. Viscous boundary conditions were used as special non-reflecting boundaries on the edges of finite soil region. According to the results, the FVDs were found to be very effective for dynamic response mitigation of the adjacent buildings, even if considering the soil medium. The results showed that the most affecting parameter on the system response was found to be soil type. It was also concluded that when adjacent structures coupled by FVDs, the maximum values of the roof displacements, the base shear forces, and the base bending moments could decrease up to around 50%. Changing in lateral stiffness of the one building has minor effects on the effectiveness of viscous dampers.

  • Korean agriculture now faces a historic challenge due to globalization and decentralization. Agricultural cooperatives should be reborn to lead regional agriculture by reorganizing the regional agri-business and strengthening the competitive power of regional agriculture. It also needs to establish an integrated agricultural development plan and to expand the vision for future agriculture. To pursue these objectives, Agricultural Cooperatives should work together with the regional government and develop an enterprise with a competitive advantage in the region.

  • A genetic algorithm to determine the optimal signal sequence and double cycle pattern is described. The signal sequence and double cycle pattern are used as the input for TRANSYT to find optimal signal timing at each junction in the area traffic networks, In the genetic process, the partially matched crossover and simple crossover operators are used for evolution of signal sequence and double cycle pattern respectively. A special conversion algorithm is devised to convert the signal sequence into the link-stage assignment for TRANSYT. Results from tests using data from an area traffic network in Leicester region R are given.

  • In this paper, we first establish $D_L$-admissibility and $D_R$-admissibility conditions for singular systems. The admissibility conditions expressed as Lyapunov type inequalities extend the existed results of normal systems to singular systems. As special cases the admissibility conditions of the continuous-time and the discrete-time singular systems can be obtained directly. The results established in this paper can be applied to solve the problems of eigenvalue assignment, regional pole-placement and robust control etc.

  • PRNM(Power Range Neutron Monitoring) of BWR (Boiling Water Reactor) is a system that processes signals from about two hundred LPRM (Local Power Range Monitor) sensors in the nuclear reactor and this system monitors the neutron flux level during the plant operating region. Development has been made by employing a special technique for multiplexing neutron sensor signals and the recent advanced microelectronics technology. It is applicable to the total plant digital control system for a nuclear power plant.

  • The hair and headdress, positioned on the top of the body, assume a special role of accomplishing the silhouette of the clothing. This thesis reviewed the change of the hair and headdresses of the ancient Western world and studied the relationship between the silhouettes of the dresses and the shapes of the hairstyles. It was concluded that the hairstyles of each region had been developed in accordance, with their dress silhouettes, either repeating the silhouettes in a smaller scale, or reflecting their aesthetic attitudes toward clothing in the hairstyles. Religious symbolism was displayed strongly. In the headdresses of the cultures where the religious influence was great.

  • The present investigation is concerned with the application of theory on fracture to the prediction of workability of materials in rotary forging, with special reference to center crack. The validity of the theory on ductile fracture was examined by the experimental data. Then the workability of materials in rotary forging was determined.

  • The surge impedance of grounding systems must be accurately computed for a safe grounding design. Specifically, the case of radio relay station in a mountaintop region is required special design method using transient analyses. To approach these design objectives, this paper presents an algorithm to compute the surge impedance of two or more grounding systems using the Laplace Transform technique and deals with the analysis of the transient characteristics on grounding systems. Also, simulation results are compared with the measured data to prove the validity of the algorithm.
