The purpose is to explore the meaning of the open space land use space pattern from the perspective of urban heat reduction using the land-use scenario. The employed methods are as follows: (1) to calculate the cooling capacity Index for each of five land use scenarios, using the InVEST Urban Cooling Model, (2) to calculate open space entropy & morphological spatial pattern for each land use scenario, using the Guidos Spatial Pattern Toolbox, and (3) to perform a Spearman rank correlation analysis between the InVEST and Guidos results. It is found that the rank correlation is moderate between the cooling capacity Index and the open space area ratio (rho=0.50). However, other relations are low. It is observed that only the total amount of open space is likely to have a meaning from the perspective of urban heat reduction, and that other open space location spatial patterns may not have much meaning from the perspective of urban thermal environment management.
Since mid 1990s, the domestic market in Korea has been changing drastically especially in the field of discount stores. The competition among this market is more severe and the consuming pattern is also changed. This study is to examine the correlation between the customer's circulation and the spatial configuration by using Space Syntax and VMD pattern through the MD plan of each floor in Discount store. Throughout this study, it tries to find out the Quantitative analysis among three factors - the customer's circulation, spatial configuration and VMD investigation. The pattern of customer's circulation appears differently according to the identity of customer and store layout, but with the result, customer's circulation system is in accordance with the floor layout in the store. In result of the study, the circulation of the customer was found to have a close relationship with spatial structure that is composed by the MD pattern in a discount store in the area of food section. Also, the circulation system in the rest area except food section is more affected by the VMD pattern rather than spatial structure.

Risk factors that threaten public safety such as crime, fire, and traffic accidents have spatial characteristics. Since each region has different dangerous environments, it is necessary to analyze the spatial pattern of risk factors for each sector such as traffic accident, fire, crime, and living safety. The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial distribution pattern of local safety level index, which act as an index that rates the safety level of each sector (traffic accident, fire, crime, living safety, suicide, and infectious disease) for basic local governments across the nation. The following analysis tools were used to analyze the spatial autocorrelation of local safety level index : Global Moran's I, Local Moran's I, and Getis-Ord's G⁎i. The result of the analysis shows that the distribution of safety level on traffic accidents, fire, and suicide tends to be more clustered spatially compared to the safety level on crime, living safety, and infectious disease. As a result of analyzing significant spatial correlations between different regions, it was found that the Seoul metropolitan areas are relatively safe compared to other cities based on the integrated index of local safety. In addition, hot spot analysis using statistical values from Getis-Ord's G⁎i derived three hot spots(Samchuck, Cheongsong-gun, and Gimje) in which safety-vulnerable areas are clustered and 15 cold spots which are clusters of areas with high safety levels. These research findings can be used as basic data when the government is making policies to improve the safety level by identifying the spatial distribution and the spatial pattern in areas with vulnerable safety levels.
Background: Spatial structure of plants in a population reflects complex interactions of ecological and evolutionary processes. For dioecious plants, differences in reproduction cost between sexes and sizes might affect their spatial distribution. Abiotic heterogeneity may also affect adaptation activities, and result in a unique spatial structure of the population. Thus, we examined sex- and size-related spatial distributions of old-growth forest of dioecious tree Torreya nucifera in extremely heterogeneous Gotjawal terrain of Jeju Island, South Korea. Methods: We generated a database of location, sex, and size (DBH) of T. nucifera trees for each quadrat ($160{\times}300m$) in each of the three sites previously defined (quadrat A, B, C in Site I, II, and III, respectively). T. nucifera trees were categorized into eight groups based on sex (males vs. females), size (small vs. large trees), and sex by size (small vs. large males, and small vs. large females) for spatial point pattern analysis. Univariate and bivariate spatial analyses were conducted. Results: Univariate spatial analysis showed that spatial patterns of T. nucifera trees differed among the three quadrats. In quadrat A, individual trees showed random distribution at all scales regardless of sex and size groups. When assessing univariate patterns for sex by size groups in quadrat B, small males and small females were distributed randomly at all scales whereas large males and large females were clumped. All groups in quadrat C were clustered at short distances but the pattern changed as distance was increased. Bivariate spatial analyses testing the association between sex and size groups showed that spatial segregation occurred only in quadrat C. Males and females were spatially independent at all scales. However, after controlling for size, males and females were spatially separated. Conclusions: Diverse spatial patterns of T. nucifera trees across the three sites within the Torreya Forest imply that adaptive explanations are not sufficient for understanding spatial structure in this old-growth forest. If so, the role of Gotjawal terrain in terms of creating extremely diverse microhabitats and subsequently stochastic processes of survival and mortality of trees, both of which ultimately determine spatial patterns, needs to be further examined.

Membrane structures, a kind of lightweight soft structural system, are used for spatial structures. The design procedure of membrane structures are needed to do shape finding, stress-deformation analysis and cutting pattern generation, because the material property has strong axial stiffness, but little bending stiffness. The problem of cooing pattern is highly varied in their size, curvature and material stiffness. So, the approximation inherent in cutting pattern generation methods is quite different. Therefore the ordinary computer software of structural analysis & design is not suitable for membrane structures. In this study, we develop the program for cooing pattern generation using geodesic line, and investigate the result of example's cooing pattern in detail.

Membrane structures, a kind of lightweight soft structural system, are used for spatial structures. The material property of the membrane has strong axial stiffness, but little bending stiffness. The design procedure of membrane structures are needed to do shape finding, stress-deformation analysis and cutting pattern generation. In shape finding, membrane structures are unstable structures initially. These soft structures need to be introduced initial stresses because of its initial unstable state, and it happens large deformation phenomenon. And also there are highly varied in their size, curvature and material stiffness. So, the approximation inherent in cutting pattern generation methods is quite different. Therefore, in this study, to find the structural shape after large deformation caused by Initial stress, we need the shape analysis considering geometric nonlinear ten And the geodesic line on surface of initial equilibrium shape and the cutting pattern generation using the geodesic line is introduced.

The quantitative bivariate spatial pattern analysis was applied for the water quality and nutrients data of Masan Bay, and for this analysis Pearson's r as aspatial correlation measurement, Moran's I as spatial association measurement and L index as integration of aspatial and spatial measurement methods were used. To understand the aspatial and spatial characteristics implicated in L index, Pearson's r as well as Moran's I were classified into 3 types respectively, and Pearson's r and Moran's I were combined with 9 types, and also quantile of L index value was used for each of those 9 types. Finally, these types were defined as 5 groups having not overlapped L index range. According to the application result of L index groups, bivariate water quality and nutrients showed no aspatial correlation regardless of spatial association in February and July, but they showed aspatial correlation having clustered spatial pattern in May and November. The result of this study providing the guideline for the interpretation of aspatial correlation and spatial association using L index is expected to be helpful for the marine environment pattern analysis using quantitative index for further study.

When a spatial regression model that uses kernel density values as a dependent variable is applied to retail business data, a unique model cannot be selected because kernel density values change following kernel bandwidths. To overcome this problem, this paper suggests how to use the point pattern analysis, especially the L-index to select a unique spatial regression model. In this study, kernel density values of retail business are computed by the bandwidth, the distance of the maximum L-index and used as the dependent variable of spatial regression model. To test this procedure, we apply it to meeting room business data in Seoul, Korea. As a result, a spatial error model (SEM) is selected between two popular spatial regression models, a spatial lag model and a spatial error model. Also, a unique SEM based on the real distribution of retail business is selected. We confirm that there is a trade-off between the goodness of fit of the SEM and the real distribution of meeting room business over the bandwidth of maximum L-index.
Distribution pattern of seawater intrusion was analyzed from the spatial distribution map of chloride using the geostatistics and CIS analyses. The chloride distribution map made by kriging(ordinary kriging and co-kriging) after exploratory spatial data analysis. Kriging provides an advanced methodology which facilitates quantification of spatial features and enables spatial interpolation. TDS, Na$^{+}$, Br$^{[-10]}$ were selected as second parameters of co-kriging which is higher value of correlation coefficients between chloride and others groundwater properties. Chloride concentration is highest in yeminchon and coastal area. And result in co-kriging was accurate than ordinary kriging.
