  • An autoguiding system for astronomical observations should be accurate and stable for efficient data taking. IGRINS (Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrograph) is a high resolution near-IR spectrograph which is now developed by Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and the University of Texas. We plan to attach this instrument on the 2.7m telescope at the McDonald observatory in 2013. IGRINS consists on three detector modules, i. e., H and K band spectrograph modules and a K band slit camera module. We use the slit camera for autoguiding of the telescope. In this poster, we describe the system architecture of the hardware and software of the autoguiding system, and the algorithm which would effectively find centers of stellar images on or outside of the slit of the infrared array.

  • KAOS30 is an automatic observing software for the wide-field 10-inch telescope as a piggyback system on the 30-inch telescope at the McDonald Observatory in Texas, US. The software has four packages in terms of functionality and is divided into communication with Telescope Control System (TCS), controlling of CCD camera and filter wheel, controlling of focuser, and script for automation observing. Each interconnect of those are based on exe-exe communication. The advantage of this distinction is that each package can be independently maintained for further updates. KAOS30 has an integrated control library that combines function library connecting each device and package. This ensures that the software can extensible interface because all packages are access to the control devices independently. Also, the library includes the ASCOM driver platform. ASCOM is a standard general purpose library that supports Application Programming Interface (API) of astronomical devices. We present the software architecture of KAOS30, and structure of interfacing between hardware and package or package and package.

  • The SPICA (SPace Infrared Telescope for Cosmology & Astrophysics) project is a next-generation infrared space telescope optimized for mid- and far-infrared observation with a cryogenically cooled 3m-class telescope. Owing to unique capability of focal plane instruments onboard SPICA, it will enable us to resolve many astronomical key issues from the star-formation history of the universe to the planetary formation. The FPC (Focal Plane Camera) is a Korean-led near-infrared instrument as an international collaboration. Korean consortium for FPC proposed a key instrument responsible for a fine guiding (FPC-G). The back-up of FPC-G will make scientific observations as well. We have examined the legacy science programs for FPC and performed the feasibility study for the fine guiding system. Recently, the international review process is now in progress, in order to make a selection of the focal plane instruments. Here, we report the current status of SPICA/FPC project.

  • Gyeonggi science high school for the gifted (GSHS) installed 60cm telescope, which is waiting for student observers. It is essential to understand the characteristics of the photometric system, consisting of telescope, filter, and CCD, to get reliable data. CCD images of SA98 Landolt standard field and M67 were obtained on 19th March 2020. The images of each field were combined by filters, i.e., we ignored the monochromatic atmospheric extinction since the photometric objects themselves are standard stars. 24 standard stars in SA98 field and 12 standard stars in M67 were used to derive the tentative transformation equation between our bv photometric system and Johnson BV photometric system. In this poster, we present the preliminary standardization result for Johnson BV photometric system in GSHS 60cm telescope. The reproductivity is discussed by comparing color coefficients of two fields. We plan to extend this process to Johnsons-Cousins BVRI photometric system and narrow-band filters for flux calibration.

  • We analyze an optical system of a telescope based on Fresnel type objective lens as suggested by Hyde (1999). The Fresnel objective lens can be thin, light-weight and foldable, and therefore it is possible to develop a space telescope with an aperture larger than that of traditional telescopes. Moreover a lens, whatever it is either Fresnel type or conventional, allows much larger fabrication tolerances. We design a medium-sized telescope adopting Fresnel lens as an objective lens for use in space and possibly on the ground. The well-known chromatic aberration of the Fresnel primary lens is corrected by a field lens and another Fresnel lens using Schupmann method. An additional lens is used for forming images. We analyze the chromatic and off-axis aberrations of the proposed system analytically and suggest methods for the minimization of off-axis aberrations and for the operation in wider spectral range. We also conduct ray tracing and optimize the whole optical system with commercial software. Finally we present the design parameters of a telescope with an aperture of 0.5 to 1 meters, enabling diffraction limited operation for a moderate field of view about 10 arc-minutes.

  • The most powerful technique for deducing the magnetic structure of the Sun is spectro-polarimetry. Detailed measurements of the polarization signal of the spectral lines (Stokes vector) allow us to infer the physical conditions in the solar atmosphere prevailing during the line formation. Inversion codes are the main tool to extract this information from the Stokes spectra. This study will focus on measurements of the chromospheric He I 1083.0 nm triplet and the photospheric Si I 1082.7 nm line. A spectropolarimetric data set of sunspots, obtained with the German Vacuum Tower Telescope (VTT) at the Teide observatory on Tenerife, is analyzed using an inversion technique. We will introduce the German Vacuum Tower Telescope and the inversion code HeLix, and will show data sets that are analyzed by HeLix.

  • The Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) is a 24.5m diameter optical/infrared telescope. Its seven 8.4m primary mirrors give it a collecting area equivalent to a 21.4m filled aperture. The ten GMT partners are constructing the telescope at the Las Campanas Observatory in Chile with first light planned for the end of 2018. In this paper, we describe the plans for the first-generation focal plane instrumentation for the telescope. The GMTO Corporation has solicited studies for instruments capable of carrying out the broad range of objectives outlined in the GMT Science Case. Six instruments have been selected for 14 month long conceptual design studies. We describe the features of these instruments and give examples of the major science questions that they can address.

  • We have analyzed 42 research papers regarding on the solar astronomy written by North Korea scientists to investigate the current status of astronomical activities in North Korea. The papers are surveyed from the 'Bulletin of Astronomy', the 'Physics', the 'Bulletin of Academy of Science', and the 'Natural Science' in North Korea, and SCI journals. In addition, we refer to the presentation material announced in the 2015 IAU by director of Pyongyang Astronomical Observatory (PAO) and the 2013 OAD/IAU reports. We have analyzed the papers statistically according to three criteria such as research subject, research field, and research members. The main research subjects are the sunspot (28%), observation system (21%), and space environments (19%). The research fields are distributed with data analysis (50%), numerical method (29%), and instrument development (21%). There have been 25 and 9 researchers in the solar astronomy and space environment, respectively since 1995. North Korea's solar research activities were also investigated in three area: instrument, solar physics, and international research linkage. PAO has operated two of sunspot telescope and solar horizontal telescope for spectroscopy and polarimetry, but there is no specific information on solar radio telescopes. North Korea has cooperated in solar research with Europe and China. We expect that the results of this study will be used as useful resource in supporting astronomical cooperation between South and North Korea in the future.

  • Camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse (CQUEAN) is an optical CCD camera developed by the Center for the Exploration of the Origin of the Universe (CEOU). In 2010 August, CQUEAN was attached on the 2.1m Otto Struve Telescope at the McDonald Observatory in Texas, USA. As the main purpose of CQUEAN is detecting the Lyman breaks of redshift ~5 quasars, it is sensitive to near-infrared wavelengths (0.7-1.0 ${\mu}m$). For the auto-guiding system, it is using a rotating guide arm to find guide stars on the Cassegrain off-axis focus of the telescope. We plan to upgrade a new filter wheel system consists of a series of narrow band filters. We will install this independent auto-guiding units on the finder scope, which makes rooms on the Cassegrain focal plane of the main telescope. In this presentation we present the system architecture of the CQUEAN Auto-guiding Package (CAP).
