Many spacecraft failures and anomalies have been attributed to energetic electrons in the Earth's magnetosphere. While the dynamics of these electrons have been studied extensively for several decades, the fundamental question of how they are accelerated is not fully resolved. Proposed theories have not been successful in explaining fast high energy increase such as REE (Relativistic electron enhancement). In this presentation, we show observations of energetic electron precipitation measured by the Korean satellite, STSAT-1 which simultaneously detect (100ev - 20 keV) and (170 - 360 keV) energy electrons at the 680 km orbit, when the RES event observed at the geosynchronous orbit on October 13, 2004. STSAT-1 observed intense electron precipitation in both energy ranges occurred in the midnight sector clearly demonstrating that electrons having wide energy band are injected from the plasma sheet. To make the balance between loss and injection, the injected electron flux should be also large. In this situation, the injected electrons can be trapped into the magnetosphere and produce REE, though they have low e-folding energies. We propose this plasma sheet injection might be the primary source of relativistic electron (1 MeV) flux increases.

Our goal is to obtain a better scientific understanding how to define the nature and role of remotely sensed land surface parameters and energy fluxes in the heat island phenomena, and local and regional weather and climate. By using the MODIS visible and thermal imagery data and analyzing the surface energy flux images associated with the change of the landcover and landuse in study area, we will estimate and present how significant is the magnitude of the heat island heat effect and its relation with the surface parameters and the energy fluxes in Taiwan. To achieve our objective, we used the energy budget components such as net radiation, soil heat flux, sensible heat flux, and latent heat flux in the study area of interest derived form remotely sensed data to understand the island heat effect. The result shows that the water is the most important component to decrease the temperature, and the more the consumed net radiation to latent heat, the lower urban surface temperature.
In December 2015, we have installed neutron monitor at the Jang Bogo station in Antarctica. The Jang Bogo station is the second science station which is located at the coast ($74^{\circ}\;37.4^{\prime}S$, $164^{\circ}\;13.7^{\prime}E$) of Terra Nova Bay in Northern Victoria Land of Antarctica. A neutron monitor is an instrument to detect neutrons from secondary cosmic rays collided by the atmosphere. The installation of neutron monitor at Jang Bogo station is a part of transferred mission for neutron monitor at McMurdo station of USA. Among 18 tubes of 18-NM64 neutron monitor, we have completed relocation of 6 tubes and the rest will be transferred in December 2017. Currently, comparison of data from both neutron monitors is under way and there is a good agreement between the data. The neutron monitor at Jang Bogo station will be quite useful to study the space weather when the installation is completed.
There are high recognitions on the importance of comforts in Elderly living environment, but the circumstance is that studies on seniors facility space itself are approached only in planning level, and studies on lighting environment which is significantly associated with the comfort in the indoor environment of seniors where they actually spend the majority of their time are not that active. This study was intended to deduce cozy bedroom environment to which existing elderly care facility can be improved by using light shelf the lighting system with the advantage of being able to serve both as building sun visor and lighting window simultaneously in order to analyze the interior environment of bedroom space of elderly care facility the indoor space where the aged spend the majority of their life and examine the directions for the improvement of existing building lighting system through remodeling and renovation. In this study, lighting performance analysis was done in a way that the windows of the bedroom unit in existing facility were set in southbound direction based on two standard types and were put under initial simulation with the use of Autodesk Revit 2011, and after the simulation results were converted to Green Building Studio gbXML file to be used in ECOTECT, Daylight Autonomy a dynamic simulation and static natural lighting simulation the existing method of calculating daylight factors were deduced through Ecotect Analysis 2011. In conclusion, exiting standard model was found in such a condition that the daylight factors for both type A and type B were above 5% the proper standard value, and required improvement. In case light shelf the natural lighting system was attached, the daylight factor was improved to proper standard value for type A, and also was improved above existing facility for type B.
A statistical study has been performed of the magnetic storm recovery phase using the Dst index for 102 storm events in the interval January 1996 to December 1998. In 43 cases (or 42%) out of our 102 events, the recovery phase exhibits fast recovery (kaking about 8 hours or less) at its initial stage or for the entire recovery period. Since this fast recovery can be explained by the fast charge exchange less of $O^{+}$ ions which mostly com from the ionosphere, and since a fraction of $H^{+}$ ions is of ionospheric origin as well, our statistical result supports the view that the source of ring current ions in many magnetic storms can be terrestrial.

We present the Exposure Time Calculator of IGRINS (Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrograph). The noises of IGRINS and the simulated emission line can be calculated from the combination of Telluric background emission and absorptions, the emission and transmission of the telescope and instrument optics, and the dark noise and the read noise of the infrared arrays. For the atmospheric transmissions, we apply the simulated spectra depending on the Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) values. In case of calculation of noises, the user needs to input the expected target magnitude, the weather conditions, and the desired exposure time. In addition to the simulated emission line, the parameters of rest wavelength, line-flux, Doppler shift and line-width are needed. The output would be the expected signal-to-noise for each spectral resolution element. The source-code of IGRINS-ETC v2.1.1 is available to be downloaded on the World Wide Web.
For space weather forecast, it is important to determine three-dimensional parameters of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). To estimate three-dimensional parameters of CMEs, we have developed a full ice-cream cone model which is a combination of a symmetrical flat cone and a hemisphere. By applying this model to 12 SOHO/LASCO halo CMEs, we find that three-dimensional parameters from our method are similar to those from other stereoscopic methods. For several geoeffective CME events, we determine CME mass by applying the Solarsoft procedure (e.g., cme_mass.pro) to SOHO/LASCO C3 images. CME volumes are estimated from the full ice-cream cone structure. We derive CME mean density as a function of CME height for these CMEs, which are approximately fitted to power-law functions. We find that the ICME mean densities extrapolated from the power law functions, are correlated with their corresponding ICME ones in logarithmic scales.

Underground space gives two benifits to us. First, it helps us to solve the land scarcity problem in urban city. Second it also helps us to manage the thermal properties of underground to keep cool in summer and warm in winter. How much it save energy depends on the ability to predict the exact temperature of the space. The purpose of this paper is to make a function predicting the temperature of underground space, analysing the 20 years measures of underground temperature kept in Korea Central Weather Burea.
This presentation introduces Korea's SNIPE (Small scale magNespheric and Ionospheric Plasma Experiment) mission, formation flying CubeSat constellation. Observing particles and waves on a single satellite suffers from inherent space-time ambiguity. To observe spatial and temporal variations of the micro-scale plasma structures on the topside ionosphere, four 6U CubeSats (~ 10 kg) will be launched into a polar orbit of the altitude of ~500 km in 2021. The distances of each satellite will be controlled from 10 km to more than 100 km by formation flying algorithm. The SNIPE mission is equipped with identical scientific instruments, solid-state telescope, magnetometer, and Langmuir probe. All the payloads have a high temporal resolution (sampling rates of about 10 Hz). Iridium modules provide an opportunity to upload changes in operational modes when geomagnetic storms occur. SNIPE's observations of the dimensions, occurrence rates, amplitudes, and spatiotemporal evolution of polar cap patches, field-aligned currents (FAC), radiation belt microbursts, and equatorial and mid-latitude plasma blobs and bubbles will determine their significance to the solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere interaction and quantify their impact on space weather.
