Research on Carried-Based PWM with Zero-Sequence Component Injection for Vienna Type Rectifiers

  • This paper studies the inherent relationship between currents and zero-sequence components. Then a precise algorithm is proposed to calculate the injected zero-sequence component to control the DC-Link neutral-point voltage balance, which can result in a more efficient and flexible neutral point voltage balance with a desirable performance. In addition, it is shown that carried-based PWM with the calculated zero-sequence component scheme can be equivalent to space-vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM). Based on the proposed method, the optimal zero-sequence component of the feasible modulation indices is analyzed. In addition, the unbalanced load limitation of the DC-Link neutral-point voltage balance control is also revealed. Simulation and experimental results are shown to verify the validity and practicality of the proposed algorithm.

A New Control Model for a 3 PWM Converter with Digital Current Controller considering Delay and SVPWM Effects

  • In design of a digital current controller for a 3-phase (3 ) voltage-source (VS) PWM converter, its conventional model, i.e., stationary or synchronous reference frame model, is used in obtaining its discretized version. It introduces, however, inherent errors since the following practical problems are not taken into consideration: the characteristics of the space vector-based pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) and the time delays in the process of sampling and computation. In this paper, the new hybrid reference frame model of the 3 VS PWM converter is proposed considering these problems. In addition, the direct digital current controller based on this model is designed without any prediction or extrapolation algorithm to compensate the time delay. So the control algorithm is made very simple. It represents no steady-state error in input current control and has the optimized transient responses. The validity of the proposed algorithm is proved by the computer simulation and experimental results.

Active front end inverter with quasi - resonance

  • A new three-phase soft-switching active front-end inverter is presented. The topology consists of a quasi-resonant PWM boost converter with an additional resonant branch, which provides low loss at high frequency operation. This leads to a high conversion efficiency and a remarkable reduction in the size of the input inductor. To synchronise the PWM pattern with the resonance cycle, a modified space vector modulation with asymmetrical PWM pattern is used. A high power factor can be achieved for both power flow directions. Due to a new control strategy the converter features a low content of harmonics in the line currents even for distorted line voltages.

A Hybrid Modulation Strategy with Reduced Switching Losses and Neutral Point Potential Balance for Three-Level NPC Inverter

  • In this paper, carrier-based pulse width modulation (CBPWM), space vector PWM (SVPWM) and reduced switching losses PWM (RSLPWM) for the three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) inverter are introduced. In the case of the neutral point (NP) potential (NPP) offset, an asymmetric disposition PWM (ASPDPWM) strategy is proposed, which can output PWM sequences correctly and suppress the lower order harmonics of the inverter effectively. An NPP balance strategy based on carrier based PWM (CBPWM) is analyzed. A hybrid modulation strategy combining RSLPWM and the NPP balance based on CBPWM is proposed, and hysteresis control is adopted to switch between the two modulation strategies. An experimental prototype of the three-level NPC inverter is built. The effectiveness of the hybrid modulation is verified with a resistance-inductance load and a permanent magnetic synchronous motor (PMSM) load, respectively. The experimental results show that reduced switching losses and an acceptable NPP can be effectively achieved in the hybrid modulation strategy.

  • 본 논문에서는 개선된 PWM 적용성, 저손실 특성 및 낮은 전압 스트레스를 가지는 새로운 저손실 준 병렬공진 직류-링크 인버터를 제안한다. 직류-링크 동작손실을 대폭 감소시킴은 물론 넓은 동작범위에 걸쳐 안정한 소프트 스위칭을 보장하기 위하여 프리휠링 구간을 최소화시키는 방법을 또한 제안한다. 게다가 직류-링크의 영전압 구간의 무손실 제어에 의하여 낮은 변조지수 동작에 있어서도 제안된 인버터는 개선된 PWM 적용성을 보인다. 제안된 인버더 토폴로지의 유용성을 확인하기 위하여 실험 및 시뮬레이션을 행하였다.

LCL Filter Design Method for Grid-Connected PWM-VSC

  • In recent years, several LCL filter design methods for different converter topologies have been published, many of which use analytical expressions to calculate the ideal converter AC voltage harmonic spectrum. This paper presents the LCL filter design methodology but the focus is on presentation and validation of the non-iterative filter design method for a grid-connected three-phase two-level PWM-VSC. The developed method can be adapted for different converter topologies and PWM algorithms. Furthermore, as a starting point for the design procedure, only the range of PWM carrier frequencies is required instead of an exact value. System nonlinearities, usually omitted from analysis have a significant influence on VSC AC voltage harmonic spectrum. In order to achieve better accuracy of the proposed procedure, the system nonlinear model is incorporated into the method. Optimal filter parameters are determined using the novel cost function based on higher frequency losses of the filter. An example of LCL filter design for a 40 kVA grid-connected PWM-VSC has been presented. Obtained results have been used to construct the corresponding laboratory setup and measurements have been performed to verify the proposed method.

  • Recently PWM inverters are widely utilized for many industrial applications e.g. high performance motor drive and PWM techniques are newly developed for an accurate output voltage. Among them space voltage vector PWM(SVPWM) inverter has high voltage ratio and low harmonics compared to the conventional sinusoidal PWM inverter. However output voltage of PWM inverter is distorted and has error duet o the conducting voltage drop of switching devices and the dead time that is inevitable to prevent the shoot-through phenomenon. This paper investigates 3-phase SVPWM inverter which has a new compensation method against dead time and voltage drop. Proposed algorithm calculates gate pulse periods which directly compensates the dead time and nonlinear voltage drop without modification of reference voltages. Direct compensation of gate pulse periods produces exact output voltage and does not need additional circuits. The propose algorithm is verified through the simulation and experiments.

  • 이 논문은 고속전철, 지하철과 같은 철도차량의 추진제어시스템에 적용될 수 있는 고능률 저주파 스위칭 PWM 기법에 관한 것이다. 500Hz이하의 낮은 스위칭 주파수로써 6스텝까지의 과변조제어를 연속적으로 수행할 뿐만 아니라 고주파 함유율을 저하 시키기 위한 PWM 방법으로 동기 기법을 공가벡터변조에 적용하였으며 DSP를 사용하여 구현하였다. 제안된 기법의 우수성과 효용성은 디지털 시뮬레이션과 실용량 모델의 실험을 통해 보인다. 실험은 전동차 추진제어장치인 1.65MVA IGBT VVVF인버터와 160톤의 전동차를 등가화한 관성부하를 통해 수행되었다.

  • In this paper, we proposes the AC input voltage and current sensorless control scheme to control the input power factor and DC output voltage of the three-phase Z-source PWM rectifier. For DC-link voltage control which is sensitive to the system parameters of the PWM rectifier, fuzzy-PI controller is used. Because the AC input voltage and current are estimated using only the DC-link voltage and current, AC input voltage and current sensors are not required. In addition, the unity input power factor and DC output voltage can be controlled. The phase-angle of the detected AC input voltage and estimated voltage, the response characteristics of the DC output voltage according to the DC voltage references, the FFT results of the estimated voltage and current, efficiency, and the response characteristics of the conventional PI controller and fuzzy-PI controller are verified by PSIM simulation.

  • 일반적으로 컨버터 장치로서 사용되고 있는 전력용 반도체 소자인 SCR이나 diode를 사용할 때 역률과 고조파의 문제를 야기 시킨다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 자기소호형 소자인 IGBT등을 사용하여 입력측 선전류를 입력 전원전압과 동상인 정현파 전류로 유지함으로써 역률과 고조파에 대한 문제를 해결 하였다. 본 논문에서는 컨버터 출력측 직류전압 제어기에 부하전류 전향보상기(feedforward compensator)를 부가하여 출력측에 다이오드 정류기가 부가된 단상 전압형 인버터를 부하로 사용하여 보상기 부가에 따른 과도상태특성을 개선하였으며 전압형 PWM 컨버터 제어에 의한 특성을 시뮬레이션 및 실험 결과를 통하여 확인 하였다.
