이동 열원을 고려한 전자빔 용접의 유한요소해석 (Fininte element analysis of electron beam welding considering for moving heat source)

  • Simulation on the electron beam welding of Al 2219 alloy was carried out by using commercial FEM code MARC, which encounters moving heat sources. Due to axisymmetry of geometry, a half of the cylinder was simulated. A coupled thermo-mechanical analysis was carried out and subroutine for heat flux was substituted in the program. The material properties such as specific heat, heat transfer coefficient and thermal expansion coefficient were given as a function of temperature and the latent heat associated with a given temperature range is considered. As a result, the proper beam power is 60㎸${\times}$60㎃ and welding speed is 1∼1.5 m/min. The residual stress in the heat-affected zone as well as the fusion zone does not increase. It is necessary to use jigs for preventing distortion of cylinder and improving weld quality.

여수산업단지에서 자라는 사방오리나무에서 채취한 종자와 질소고정 뿌리혹의 접종 효과 비교(I) (Comparison of Inoculation Effects for Different Seed and Nodule Sources in Alnus firma Grown in Yeosu Industrial Complex(I))

  • 여수산업단지 같은 대기오염지역에서 채취한 사방오리나무의 질소고정 뿌리혹의 접종 효과를 보기 위해서 오염에 대해서 저항성 개체와 민감한 개체를 선발하고 종자를 채취한 후 파종을 하고 발아한 후 3주 후의 유묘를 같은 지역에서 채취한 뿌리혹으로 12개의 조합으로 접종을 하였다. 접종효과를 비교하기 위해서 광합성 능력을 측정하였다. 대기오염에 대해 저항성을 보이는 모수에서 채취한 종자가 민감한 개체에서 채취한 것보다 광합성 능력이 높은 경향을 나타냈다. 대기오염에 민감한 모수에서 채취한 뿌리혹으로 접종한 조합이 일반적으로 생리활성이 낮았다. 그러나 접종효과는 뿌리혹을 채취한 모수보다는 종자를 채취한 모수가 어떤 상태인가에 따라서 광합성 능력이 더 영향을 많이 받는 것으로 나타났다. 그렇기 때문에 생리적인 특성에 대한 영향은 뿌리혹을 채취한 모수보다는 종자의 모수가 더 중요한 요인 같다.

Stress Dependence of Thermal Stability of Nickel Silicide for Nano MOSFETs

  • Dependence of the thermal stability of nickel silicide on the film stress of inter layer dielectric (ILD) layer has been investigated in this study and silicon nitride $(Si_3N_4)$ layer is used as an ILD layer. Nickel silicide was formed with a one-step rapid thermal process at $500^{\circ}C$ for 30 sec. $2000{\AA}$ thick $Si_3N_4$ layer was deposited using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition after the formation of Ni silicide and its stress was split from compressive stress to tensile stress by controlling the power of power sources. Stress level of each stress type was also split for thorough analysis. It is found that the thermal stability of nickel silicide strongly depends on the stress type as well as the stress level induced by the $Si_3N_4$ layer. In the case of high compressive stress, silicide agglomeration and its phase transformation from the low-resistivity nickel mono-silicide to the high-resistivity nickel di-silicide are retarded, and hence the thermal stability is obviously improved a lot. However, in the case of high tensile stress, the thermal stability shows the worst case among the stressed cases.

현삼에서 탄소원과 질소원의 종류와 농도가 기내 식물체 분화에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Carbon and Nitrogen Sources on the Shoot Formation in bioreator culture of Scrophularia buergeriana Miquel)

  • 생물 반응기를 이용한 현삼 종묘의 생산에 있어 적정 탄소원과 질소원의 종류 및 농도와 , 생물 반응기 형태에 대한실험의 결과는 다음과 같다. 탄소원으로서 과당을 사용하였을 때 자당 사용의 경우보다 다신초의 형성은 좋았으나, 비정상적인 개체가 많아 종묘 생산용으로는 부적합하였다. 질소원으로 질산태 질소의 효과적 이었으며, 암모니아태 질소 413 mg/L 에 절산태 질소 1,900 mg/L 로 조합하는 것이 신초형성에 가장 적합하였는데, 500 ml 플라스크 배양에서 전 질소 함량은 3 주째 까지는 83% 에서 75% 로 완만하게 감소하다 이후 46% 로 급격히 감소하였다. 이러한 현상은 신초가 급속히 증가하는 시기와 일치하였고 생물 반응기에서는 일정한 속도로 감소되었으며, 배양 종료시인 6주 째에는 500ml 플라스크에서나 생물 반응기 배양액 내의 질소함량은 거의 남아 있지 않았다. 생물반응기의 배지내 자당은 2주째에 완전히 고갈되었으며 500ml 플라스크 배양에서 자당은 3주째에 완전히 고갈되었고, 자당에서 전환된 과당과 포도당은 절편체의 생체중이 급격히 증가되는 4주와 5 주 사이에 감소되었다. 현삼의 배양에 적합한 생물 반응기 형태는 inner loop 가없는 air lift형 sphere type이었다.

2D deformation in initially stressed thermoelastic half-space with voids

  • The present investigation is to study the plane problem in initially stressed thermoelastic half-space with voids due to thermal source. Lord-Shulman (Lord and Shulman 1967) theory of thermoelasticity with one relaxation time has been used to investigate the problem. A particular type of thermal source has been taken as an application of the approach. Finite element technique has been used to solve the problem. The components of displacement, stress, temperature change and volume fraction field are computed numerically. The resulting quantities are depicted graphically for different values of initial stress parameter. The relaxation time and the initial stress parameter have a significant effect on all distributions.

Response of temperature dependence of an elastic modulus in microstretch generalized thermoelasticity

  • Laplace-Fourier transform techniques are used to investigate the interaction caused by mechanical, thermal and microstress sources in a generalized thermomicrostretch elastic medium with temperature-dependent mechanical properties. The modulus of elasticity is taken as a linear function of reference temperature. The integral transforms are inverted using a numerical technique to obtain the normal stress, tangential stress, tangential couple stress, microstress and temperature distribution. Effect of temperature dependent modulus of elasticity and thermal relaxation times have been depicted graphically on the resulting quantities. Comparisons are made with the results predicted by the theories of generalized thermoelasticity. Some particular cases are also deduced from the present investigation.

  • This paper addresses details of wave load nonlinearity effect on stress RAO and damage ratio using component stochastic fatigue analysis. Traditional spectral fatigue analysis for ship structure is based on linear theory; however, there are a number of nonlinearity sources. Especially loading nonlinearity, such as hydrodynamic pressure applying to ship side and gravity changes due to roll and pitch motion, is thought to critically violate the linearity assumption of spectral fatigue analysis, which involves stress RAO as linear parameter. The main focus is placed on how to idealize complicated characteristics of loading nonlinearity and how to implement the nonlinear bias to linear spectral fatigue analysis.

Interactions in transversely isotropic new modified couple stress solid due to Hall current, rotation, inclined load with energy dissipation

  • This paper is concerned with the disturbances in a transversely isotropic new modified couple stress homogeneous thermoelastic rotating medium under the combined influence of Hall currents, magnetic fields, and mechanical sources represented by inclined loads. The application of Laplace and Fourier transform techniques are used for the derivation of analytical expressions for various physical quantities. As an application,the bounding surface is subjected to uniformly and linearly distributed force (mechanical force). Present model contains length scale parameters that can capture the size effects. Numerical inversion techniques has been used to provide insights into the system's behavior in the physical domain. The graphical representation of numerical simulated results has been presented to emphasize the impact of rotation and inclined line loads on the system, enhancing our understanding of the studied phenomena. Further research can extend this study to investigate additional complexities and real-world applications.

Community-level facilitation by macroalgal foundation species peaks at an intermediate level of environmental stress

  • In rocky intertidal habitats, abiotic stress due to desiccation and thermal extremes increases with elevation because of tides. A study in Atlantic Canada showed that, at low elevations where conditions are benign due to the brief low tides, fucoid algal canopies (Ascophyllum nodosum and Fucus spp.) do not affect the structure of benthic communities. However, at middle and high elevations, where low tides last longer, fucoid canopies limit abiotic extremes and increase the richness (number of invertebrate and algal species, except fucoids) of benthic communities. Using the data from that study, this paper compares the intensity of facilitation and its importance (relative to all other sources of variation in richness) between middle and high elevations, which represent intermediate and high stress, respectively. Facilitation intensity was calculated as the percent increase in benthic richness between quadrats with low and high canopy cover, while the importance of facilitation was calculated as the percentage of variation in richness explained by canopy cover. Data for 689 quadrats spanning 350 km of coastline were used. Both the intensity and importance of facilitation were greater at middle elevations than at high elevations. As canopies do not affect benthic communities at low elevations, this study suggests that the facilitation-stress relationship at the community level is unimodal for this marine system. Such a pattern was found for some terrestrial systems dominated by canopy-forming plants. Thus, it might be ubiquitous in nature and, as further studies refine it, it might help to predict community-level facilitation depending on environmental stress.

Characterization and Regulation of the Gene Encoding Monothiol Glutaredoxin 3 in the Fission Yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe

  • Glutaredoxins (Grxs) are thioloxidoreductases which are required for maintaining thiol/disulfide equilibrium in living cells. The Grx3 gene, which encodes one of the three monothiol Grxs in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, was characterized, and its transcriptional regulation studied. Genomic DNA encoding Grx3 was isolated by PCR, and a plasmid pTT3 carrying this DNA was produced. The DNA sequence has 1,267 bp, which would encode a monothiol Grx of 166 amino acids with a molecular mass of 18.3 kDa. The putative protein has 27% homology with Grx5, and contains many hydrophobic amino acid residues in its N-terminal region. S. pombe cells harboring pTT3 had increased Grx activity and enhanced survival on minimal medium plates containing aluminum (5 mM), BSO (0.05 mM), menadione (0.01 mM) or cadmium (0.2 mM). The 568 bp upstream region of Grx3 was fused into the promoterless b-galactosidase gene of the shuttle vector YEp367R to generate fusion plasmid pMJS10. Potassium chloride (KCl) and metals including aluminum and cadmium enhanced the synthesis of ${\beta}$-galactosidase from the fusion gene. The synthesis of ${\beta}$-galactosidase was also enhanced, in a Pap1-dependent manner, by fermentable carbon sources such as glucose (at low concentrations) and sucrose, but not by non-fermentable carbon sources such as ethanol and acetate. Grx3 mRNA increased in response to treatment with BSO. These observations indicate that S. pombe Grx3 is involved in the response to stress, and is regulated by stress.
