  • Several studies have been carried out on the source contribution of the particulate Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) over Seoul by using the Chemical Mass Balance Model (CMB)(Lee and Kim, 2007; Kim et al., 2013). To confirm the validity of the modeling results, the modified model employing a photochemical loss rate along with varying residence times and the standard model that considers no loss were compared. It was found that by considering the photochemical loss rate, a better performance was obtained as compared to those obtained from the standard model in the CMB calculation. The modified model estimated higher contributions from coke oven, transportation, and biomass burning by 4 to 8%. However, the order of the relative importance of major sources was not changed, coke oven followed by transportation and biomass burning. Thus, it was concluded that the standard CMB model results are reliable for identifying the relative importance of major sources.

  • An ATM switch must deal with various kinds of input sources having different traffic characteristics and it must guarantee very small value of cel loss probability, about 10$^{8}$ -10$^{12}$ , to deal with loss-sensitive traffics. In order to estimate such a rate event probability with simulation procedure, a variance reduction technique is essential for obtaining an appropriate level of precision with reduced cost. In this paper, we propose a hybrid simulation technique to achieve reduction of variance of cell loss probability estimator, where hybrid means the combination of analytical method and simulation procedure. A discrete time queueing model with multiple input sources and a finite shared buffer is considered, where the arrival process at an input source and a finite shared buffer is considered, where the arrival process at an input source is governed by an Interrupted Bernoulli Process and the service rate is constant. We deal with heterogeneous input sources as well as homogeneous case. The performance of the proposed hybrid simulation estimator is compared with those of the raw simulation estimator and the importance sampling estimator in terms of variance reduction ratios.

  • In order to generate a clock source with low cost and high performance in system on chip(SoC), a relaxation oscillator with stable output characteristics according to PVT(process, voltage and temperature) fluctuation require a low area and a low power. In this paper, we propose a solution to reduce the current loss caused by parasitic components in the conventional relaxation oscillator. Since the slew rate of the bias current and the capacitor are adjusted to be the same through the proposed solution, a relaxation oscillator with low area characteristics is designed for the same clock source frequency implementation. The proposed circuit is designed using the TSMC CMOS 0.18um process. The Simulation results show that the relaxation oscillator using the proposed solution can prevent the current loss of about $279{\mu}A$ and reduce the total chip area by 20.8% compared with the conventional oscillator in the clock source frequency of 96 MHz.

  • The discharge characteristics of pulse-driven coplanar micro barrier discharges for an ultraviolet (UV) light source using Ne-Xe mixture have been investigated using a two-dimensional fluid simulation at near-atmospheric pressure. The densities of electrons, the radiative excited states, the metastable excited states, and the power loss are investigated with the variations of gas pressure and the gap distance. With a fixed gap distance, the number of the radiative states $Xe^*(^3P_1)$ increases with the increasing driving voltage, but this number shows weak dependency on the gas when that pressure is over 400 Torr. However, the number of the radiative states increases with the increase of the gap distance at a fixed voltage, while the power loss decreases. Therefore, a long gap discharge has higher efficiency for UV generation than does a short gap discharge. A slight change in the electrode tilt angle enhances the number of radiative species 2 or 3 times with the same operation conditions. Therefore, the intensity and efficiency of the UV light source can be controlled independently by changing the gap distance and the electrode structure.

  • An analysis for the gamma radiation fields in the research reactor MAPLE-X10 facility has been peformed under the assumption of partial loss of reactor and service pool water to assess the safety from the view point of design. Four photon source terms considered in the analysis were calculated using the ORIGEN-S code. Gamma dose rate calculations over the reactor and service pools during the water-loss accident conditions were performed using QAD-CG code. MCNP code (Monte Carlo Neuron and Photon Transport code), also, was used to assess the scattered radiation fields away from the pools, which is appropriate for calculating the scattered photon dose rates outside of the solid angle subtended by the source and pool walls.

  • The SARLM(Source Adaptive Receiver-Driven Multi-Layered Multicast) has been proposed to address heterogeneous bandwidth constraints through layer merging and splitting. However, this method causes that receivers subscribing to the higher layer drop down to the lower layer and hence may decrease utilization of available bandwidth after layer merging. In this paper, we proposed a multicast regrouping method considering distributive status of receivers according to loss rates. The proposed method weights receivers according to loss rates. And then it groups higher layer with receivers subscribing to lower layer have extra bandwidth and lower layer with receivers subscribing to higher layer have high loss rate. Experimental results show that receivers subscribing to higher layer can receive in high transmission rate and consequently the proposed method effectively improves utilization of available bandwidth.

  • The four-terminal transmission matrix method has been widely used to estimate the insertion-loss. However, the predictins using the equations in the four-terminal transmission matrix method do not reflect a practical phenomenon accurately, In this paper, the correction method to derive the insertion-loss for a constant sound pressure source is presented. The method of correction to the four-terminal transmission matrix method was proposed by rewriting the real and imaginary parts as they depend solely on the flow velocity. Then the result was compensated for by adding the component of the temperature gradient.

  • Design target values of transmission loss in a high-speed train wall are suggested by calculating the difference between interior and exterior noise levels of it. Exterior noise level distribution on the boundary of train wall is calculated by Sysnoise, with sound source input prepared by experiments. Two kinds of exterior sound sources are considered, the rolling noise of train wheels on the rail and the aerodynamic noise from the pantograph. Interior noise level is provided by high-speed design target. Transmission loss characteristics according to the frequency band are examined.

  • In order to examine the propagation loss associated with water depth and bottom sediment type, an acoustic experiment was conducted in the Southeast Sea of Korea. A sound source was towed along the pre-defined tracks in about 5kts and the signal was simultaneously received at three bottom-moored hydrophones. The propagation loss of sound wave traveling along the isodepth was compared with that crossing the isodepth. The former case shows, in general, less loss than the latter. This trend is stronger as the distance between a source and a receiver increases. When sound wave propagates across the isodepth, we also find that the propagation loss is influenced by the upsloping and downslopoing conditions of wave propagtion. In general, the propagation loss under downsloping condition is smaller than that of upsloping condition, and the differences are as large as 10dB in some cases. However, little difference are found in the propagation loss depending on the bottom types : gravelly sand and sand-silt-clay. Meanwhile, the optimum propagation frequencies are found within range of 130-255Hz.

  • This paper reports the development of an analysis method in a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) using the finite element method (FEM) coupled with the electromagnetic field of the Preisach model, which represents an additional thermal source due to hysteresis loss and a thermal field. This study focused on thermal analysis relative to hysteresis and copper losses in a SynRM.
