Background: Simultaneous detection of neutrons and gamma rays have become much more practicable, by taking advantage of good gamma-ray discrimination properties using pulse shape discrimination (PSD) technique. Recently, we introduced a commercial CLYC system in Korea, and performed an initial characterization and simulation studies for the CLYC detector system to provide references for the future implementation of the dual-mode scintillator system in various studies and applications. Materials and Methods: We evaluated a CLYC detector with 95% $^6Li$ enrichment using various gamma-ray sources and a $^{252}Cf$ neutron source, with validation of our Monte Carlo simulation results via measurement experiments. Absolute full-energy peak efficiency values were calculated for gamma-ray sources and neutron source using MCNP6 and compared with measurement experiments of the calibration sources. In addition, behavioral characteristics of neutrons were validated by comparing simulations and experiments on neutron moderation with various polyethylene (PE) moderator thicknesses. Results and Discussion: Both results showed good agreements in overall characteristics of the gamma and neutron detection efficiencies, with consistent ~20% discrepancy. Furthermore, moderation of neutrons emitted from $^{252}Cf$ showed similarities between the simulation and the experiment, in terms of their relative ratios depending on the thickness of the PE moderator. Conclusion: A CLYC detector system was characterized for its energy resolution and detection efficiency, and Monte Carlo simulations on the detector system was validated experimentally. Validation of the simulation results in overall trend of the CLYC detector behavior will provide the fundamental basis and validity of follow-up Monte Carlo simulation studies for the development of our dual-particle imager using a rotational modulation collimator.
For the design and set-up of neutron induced prompt ${\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy system using $^{252}Cf$ neutron source, the effects of shielding and moderator materials have been examined. The $^{252}Cf$ source being used for TLD badge calibration in Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute was utilized for this preliminary experiment. The ${\gamma}$-ray background and prompt ${\gamma}$-ray spectrum of the sample containing Cl were measured using HPGe (GMX 60% relative efficiency) located at the inside of the system connected to notebook PC at the outside of the system (about 20 meter distance). The background activities of neutron and ${\gamma}$-rays were measured with neutron survey meter as well as ${\gamma}$-ray survey meters, respectively and the system was designed to minimize the activities. Prompt ${\gamma}$-ray spectrum was measured using ${\gamma}$-${\gamma}$ coincident system for reduce the background and the continuum spectrum. The optimum system was designed and set up using the experimental data obtained.

Radiation source imaging system is essential for protecting of radiation leakage accidents and minimizing damages from the radioactive materials, and is expected to play an important role in the nuclear plant decommissioning area. In this study, the stereoscopic camera principle was applied to develop a new radiation imaging device technology that can extract the radiation three-dimensional position information. This radiation three-dimensional imaging device (K3-RIS) was designed as a compact structure consisting of a radiation sensor, a CCD camera, and a pan-tilt only. It features the acquisition of stereoscopic radiation images by position change control, high-resolution detection by continuous scan mode control, and stereoscopic image signal processing. The performance analysis test of K3-RIS was conducted for a gamma-ray source(Cs-137) in radiation calibration facility. The test result showed that a performance error with less than 3% regardless of distances of the objects.
An imaging plate(IP) detector, a two-dimensional digital radiation detector that can acquire image of radioactivity distribution in a sample, has been applied in many fields; for industrial radiography, medical diagnosis, X-ray diffraction test, etc. In this study, the possibility of IP detector to be used lot measuring radioactivity of sample is explored using its high sensitivity, higher spatial resolution, wider dynamic range and screen uniformity for several kinds radiations. First, the IP detector is applied to measure the surface uniformity for area source. Surface uniformity is measured rapidly and nondestructively by measuring the radioactivity distribution of common standard area source$(^{241}Am)$. Next, the IP is employed to study the possibility of measuring an extremely low-level activity of environmental sample. For this study the screen uniformity, shield effect of background radiation, linear dynamic range and fading effect of the IP detector is investigated. The potato, banana, radish and carrot samples are chosen to measure ultra low-level activity of $^{40}K$ isotope. The efficiency calibration of IP detector is carried out using the standard source.
Analysis Ready Data (ARD) for optical satellite images represents a pre-processed product by applying spectral characteristics and viewing parameters for each sensor. The atmospheric correction is one of the fundamental and complicated topics, which helps to produce Top-of-Atmosphere (TOA) and Top-of-Canopy (TOC) reflectance from multi-spectral image sets. Most remote sensing software provides algorithms or processing schemes dedicated to those corrections of the Landsat-8 OLI sensors. Furthermore, Google Earth Engine (GEE), provides direct access to Landsat reflectance products, USGS-based ARD (USGS-ARD), on the cloud environment. We implemented the Orfeo ToolBox (OTB) atmospheric correction extension, an open-source remote sensing software for manipulating and analyzing high-resolution satellite images. This is the first tool because OTB has not provided calibration modules for any Landsat sensors. Using this extension software, we conducted the absolute atmospheric correction on the Landsat-8 OLI images of Railroad Valley, United States (RVUS) to validate their reflectance products using reflectance data sets of RVUS in the RadCalNet portal. The results showed that the reflectance products using the OTB extension for Landsat revealed a difference by less than 5% compared to RadCalNet RVUS data. In addition, we performed a comparative analysis with reflectance products obtained from other open-source tools such as a QGIS semi-automatic classification plugin and SAGA, besides USGS-ARD products. The reflectance products by the OTB extension showed a high consistency to those of USGS-ARD within the acceptable level in the measurement data range of the RadCalNet RVUS, compared to those of the other two open-source tools. In this study, the verification of the atmospheric calibration processor in OTB extension was carried out, and it proved the application possibility for other satellite sensors in the Compact Advanced Satellite (CAS)-500 or new optical satellites.
We present the results from B-, R-, I-, J- and H-band observations of the NEP-Wide survey field. The NEP-Wide survey is an AKARI survey of the North Ecliptic Pole covering ~ 5 square degrees area. Our optical/NIR imaging supports the AKARI IR imaging data by providing a crucial coverage in the optical/NIR. The optical data were obtained in 2007 using the 1.5 m telescope and SNUCAM at Maidanak Observatory, Uzbekistan. The NIR data were obtained in 2008 with FLAMINGOS on the KPNO 2.1 m telescope. We used IRAF, SExtractor, SCAMP, and SWarp for reducing the raw data, I-band fringe pattern removal, astrometry, standard photometry calibration, and source detection. Our optical-NIR data reach the depths of B ~ 23.4, R ~ 23.1, I ~ 22.3, J ~ 21.05, and H ~ 20.64 AB mag at 5-sigma. Here, we present the astrometric accuracy, galaxy number counts, completeness, and reliability, as well as redshift tracks of some normal galaxies and quasars on the B - R vs. R - I color-color diagram. The photometric data are being used for identifying optical counterparts of the IR data provided by AKARI, studying their SEDs, and selecting interesting objects for spectroscopic follow-up studies.

In this paper, we present the simultaneous measurement of the fabricaition strain and temperature during and after cure of unsymmetric composite laminate uising fiber optic sensors. Fiber Bragg grating/extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometric (FBG/EFPl) hybrid sensors are used to measure those measurands. The characteristic matrix of sensor is analytically derived and measurements can be done without sensor calibration. A wavelength-swept fiber laser is utilized as a light source. FBG/EFPI sensors are embedded in a graphite/epoxy unsymmetric cross-ply composite laminate at different direction and different location. We perform the real time measurement of fabrication strains and temperatures at two points of the composite laminate during cure process in an autoclave. Also, the thermal strains and temperatures of the fabricated laminate are measured in thermal chamber. Through these experiments, we can provide a basis for the efficient smart processing of composite and know the thermal behavior of unsymmetric cross-ply composite laminate.
Generally, it is difficult to analyze cast iron samples with spark discharge emission spectrometry since the content of carbon in these samples is high as a few percent. The cast iron samples were analyzed with the developed glow discharge emission spectrometer composed of glow discharge emission source and polychromator. The discharge condition of glow discharge lamp(GDL) has been optimized by variation of Ar gas pressure, discharge voltage and discharge time. Under the optimum conditions obtained in this work, relationships between the measured emission intensities and concentration of two types of cast iron standard samples(BAS, LECO) were investigated. Most of elements(Mn, Si, P, S etc.) showed the good linearity in one calibration curve. And the carbon showed slightly the systematic difference according to the type of standard samples.
According to development of computer technology, the utilization of the fourth generation of digital photogrammetry progresses favorable. Especially the method of using digital video camera is very practicable and has an advantage such as a profitability for the amateur. In road field which if centrical facilities of national industry, this method was utilized to acquire road information for the safety diagnosis or maintenance. In this study, 3-dimensional position information of road centerline was extracted using digital video camera which has practicality and economical efficiency. This data could be a basic source in road information project.
Partial discharges(PD) is a important factor to evaluate the insulation state in high voltage electric machinery. However, measuring PD under the circumstances of power plant is occasionally impossible due to the relatively high magnitude of noise which is emanated from the operating machinery. In some case, the instrument measuring PD can not even perform a calibration that initializes tools and enhance the accuracy. This paper presents that we devised a noise reduction method and demonstrated the usefulness in acquiring reliable PD signals. We attached a series of filter and transformer at the input of power source of the instruments which refrains high noise signals from incoming to the instruments. We experimented the efficiency of noise reduction applying the device into the Dangjin Power Plant and Factory. As a result of testing with the filter and transformer, we can easily calibrate the PD signal compared to the case without the device. Additionally, we can detect the small PD signal which was unperceived with a normal device.
