  • Control systems in machinery equipment provide correction signals to motion units in order to reduce or cancel out the mismatches between sensor feedback signals and command or desired values. In this paper, we introduce a simulator for control characteristics of machinery equipment. The purpose of the simulator development is to provide mechanical system designers with the ability to estimate how much dynamic performance can be achieved from their design parameters and selected devices at the designing phase. The simulator has a database for commercial parts, so that the designers can choose appropriate components for servo controllers, motors, motor drives, and guide ways, etc. and then tune governing parameters such as controller gains and friction coefficients. The simulator simulates the closed-loop control system which is built and parameter-tuned by the designer and shows dynamic responses of the control system. The simulator treats the moving table as a 6 degrees-of-freedom rigid body and considers the motion guide blocks stiffness, damping and their locations as well as sensor locations. The simulator has been under development for one and a half years and has a few years to go before the public release. The primary achievements and features will be presented in this paper.

  • The efficient maintenance and management of steep slopes often require excessive professional resources and quantitative investigations. Therefore, it is important to develop technology for objective scientific site investigations and quantitative evaluations of steep slopes. This study proposes a 'Mobile System' for steep slopes in order to improve the effectiveness of site investigations compared with conventional methods using anevaluati on table. By analyzing site investigations and desktop studies, the required software and hardware are identified to develop the 'Mobile System', consisting of a 'Field Information Input System' and an 'Analysis System'. The applicability of the system is verified by its application to an area with steep slopes affected by debris flows. The use of this system is expected to increase the efficiency of maintaining steep slope sand to reduce the time and resources required.

  • This study conducted an analysis of plant species composition and vegetation at sea cliffs of the uninhabited islets off Ganghwa-gun by applying discontinuous classification method & continuous ordination method of species composition table by correlation. The analysis results are as follows: First, the plant showing the highest appearance frequency was Parthenocissus tricuspidata Planch.(58.3%), followed by Carpinus coreana Nak., Viburnum carlesii Hemsl. and Kalopanax septemlobus Koidz.(37.5%,respectively). As for a plant community, it was found that it consisted of Quercus mongolica community, Tilia mandshurica community, Carpinus coreana community, Sorbus alnifolia community and Pinus thunbergii community; as for the community distribution classified by individual islet, it was revealed that Quercus mongolica community appeared at Sosongdo and Bunjido; Tilia mandshurica community at Sosongdo and Daesongdo; Carpinus coreana community appeared at Woodo, Suribong and Bido; Sorbus alnifolia community at Susido, Sosongdo and Daesongdo, and Pinus thunbergii community at Seokdo and Woodo, respectively. The plant similarity classified by uninhabited islet was found to be the highest at Sosongdo and Daesongdo. This research judged the reason why the typical grassland community of coastal cliffs did not join these islets to be environmental conditions of rock landform where there exists almost no surface soil at most sea cliffs; thus, more detailed study on this was required.

  • Objectives: This study examines the relationships between indoor radon concentrations and distribution from soil geological mapping in the Hwacheon and Jangsu areas. Methods: GIS and a pivot table were used for inquiries about indoor radon contents, soil characteristics, and geological differences. Results: The Hwacheon area was characterized by the presence of normal and reverse faults as a passage of runoff for radon, sufficient occurrences of minerals containing uranium within granite as a radon source, a high concentration of radon within the granite area and clear differences of radon concentrations between granitic and metamorphic areas. The Jangsu area was characterized by the presence of normal faults, wide distributions of alluvium, and ambiguities on radon concentrations indoors among areas of geological differences. Considering the granite area and alluvium surrounded with granite areas, the characteristics of radon concentrations within soils and indoors in the Jangsu area are similar to those of the Hwacheon area. High concentrations are found with entisol and inceptisol in the Hawcheon area, but with entisol, inceptisol, and ultisol in the Jangsu area. High radon concentrations are found in sandy loam and/or loam. High concentrations are found in recently constructed or brick buildings, but low concentrations in traditional or prefabricated houses showing a high possibility of outward flow. Conclusions: The overall results suggest that radon concentrations in the Hwacheon and Jangsu area are dominantly influenced by geological characteristics with additional artificial influences.

  • This study was performed to update the National Standard Food Composition Table (NSFCT) published by Korea Rural Development Administration, especially focusing on vitamin $B_{12}$ for Korean pork. Total 7 primal and 22 retail fresh cuts of Korean pork were analyzed for vitamin $B_{12}$ and the applied immunoaffinity-HPLC was validated. Vitamin $B_{12}$ assay by immunoaffinity-HPLC obtained recoveries over 95% and coefficient variations of precision below about 10%, which met the limits required for validation acceptance. Limits of detection and quantification of immunoaffinity-HPLC were 0.01 and $0.33{\mu}g/100g$, respectively. Quality control chart showed that analysis performance was excellent during the entire of study. Vitamin $B_{12}$ contents of pork cuts significantly varied depending the types of primal and its retail cuts (p<0.05). Belly, Boston butt, rib cuts showed relatively high vitamin $B_{12}$ contents compared to other primal cuts. Vitamin $B_{12}$ content of pork retail cuts were also significantly different within the same primal cuts (p<0.05). Among 22 retail cuts, the highest vitamin $B_{12}$ was observed in Tosisal in belly primal part ($0.98{\mu}g/100g$) while both Aldeungsimsal in loin and Hongdukkaesal in hide leg were the lowest by $0.33{\mu}g/100g$. This study provides reliable vitamin $B_{12}$ data for the Korean pork fresh cuts through standard sampling, method validation and analytical quality control, which would be used for update of Korean NSFCT.

  • The recent development of data collection technology, which conveys various travel data in real-world such as mobile data and probe vehicle data, facilitates transportation planners identifying specified spatio-temporal travel patterns. In this study, an easily implementable travel mode classification methodology was proposed to classify inter-regional trip-modes without modeling by superimposing trajectories generated from mobile phone signaling and transportation infrastructure points into a polygon scale of a shapefile in a GIS system. Each regional mode trip was classified according to the rules such as the presence of transportation infrastructure in the trip trajectory, travel time, and the presence of access trips. An accuracy test generates Type I and Type II error results table to verify the proposed methodology. As a result, it was found that the methodology developed showed the F1-Score of the air mode 1.00, rail mode 0.95, bus mode 0.73.

  • Post-harvest rot of grape causes a severe economic loss and lower of the grape quality. It is also one of the important limiting factors for grape export. Grape rots and their casual agents on 'Red Globe' variety imported from Chile were identified. Grapes shown rotting symptom were collected from the storages near the import harbor. The 3 different rots were identified on the imported 'Red Globe'; melting decay, gray mold, and blue mold. A bacterium that isolated from a typical melting decay symptom was identified as Gluconobacter cerinus on basis of its nucleotide sequence of 16S rDNA and fatty acid profile. By inoculation on grape, it caused cracking and dissolution of epidermis of grape which were the characteristics of melting decay. Botrytis cinerea and Penicillium expansum were isolated from grapes showing gray mold and blue mold. The 2 fungal isolates were identified on basis of their morphological characteristics and nucleotide sequence of their beta-tubulin genes. They showed strong pathogenicity on 'Campbell Early' variety that is a major table grape in Korea.
