This experiment was conducted to characterize the inheritance of petal color, flower-eye color, flower shape, leaf variegation pattern, and leaf-end shape in Cyclamen persicum. The segregation of $F_2$ and backcross populations from crosses between inbred lines was tested for Mendelian inheritance mode. From four different combinations of crosses, it was found that the petal color was controlled by a single incomplete dominant gene. The other characters, flower-eye color, flower shape, leaf variegation pattern and leaf-end shape were confirmed to be controlled by single complete dominant genes.
Although there have been plenty of dominance deviation analysis, few studies have dealt with multiple phenotypes. Because researchers focused on multiple phenotypes (final weight and backfat thickness) of Landrace pigs, the classification of the genes was possible. With genome-wide association studies (GWASs), we analyzed the additive and dominance effects of the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). The classification of the pig genes into four categories (overdominance in final weight, overdominance in backfat thickness and overdominance in final weight, underdominance in backfat thickness, etc.) can enable us not only to analyze each phenotype's dominant effects, but also to illustrate the gene ontology (GO) analysis with different aspects. We aimed to determine the additive and dominant effect in backfat thickness and final weight and performed GO analysis. Using additive model and dominance deviation analysis in GWASs, Landrace pigs' overdominant and underdominant SNP effects in final weight and backfat thickness were surveyed. Then through GO analysis, we investigated the genes that were classified in the GWASs. The major GO terms of the underdominant effects in final weight and overdominant effects in backfat thickness were ion transport with the SLC8A3, KCNJ16, P2RX7 and TRPC3 genes. Interestingly, the major GO terms in the underdominant effects in the final weight and the underdominant effects in the backfat thickness were the regulation of ion transport with the STAC, GCK, TRPC6, UBASH3B, CAMK2D, CACNG4 and SCN4B genes. These results demonstrate that ion transport and ion transport regulation genes have distinct dominant effects. Through GWASs using the mode of linear additive model and dominance deviation, overdominant effects and underdominant effects in backfat thickness was contrary to each other in GO terms (ion transport and ion transport regulation, respectively). Additionally, because ion transport and ion transport regulation genes are associative with adipose tissue accumulation, we could infer that these two groups of genes had to do with unique fat accumulation mechanisms in Landrace pigs.
In general, capacitors have a large influence on the life of the system due to frequent charging and discharging. In this paper, we analyze the cause of the core failure of high voltage, high current HVDC sub-module film capacitor and analyze the precautions of the capacitor design and manufacturing process. First, the cause of the fault, the failure mode, and the effect are analyzed through the FMEA of the capacitor. To quantitatively evaluate the causes and effects of faults that have the greatest effect on the failure of a capacitor, a fault tree for the capacitor is presented and the failure rate is analyzed according to the design parameters and the driving conditions. It is verified that the main cause of capacitor failure is the capacitance change, and it is necessary to minimize the temperature rise, corona occurrence, electrode expansion, and insulation distance decrease during capacitor design and manufacturing process in order to reduce the failure rate of the capacitor.
This paper aims to uncover and discuss characteristics of citizen participatory transdisciplinary research which has been gaining momentum in recent years in the form of social-problem solving R&D program and sustainability science research. Two key questions are examined. One is related to the mechanism of cooperation in knowledge production among participants, namely scientists and citizens(extra-academics), while the other is examining whether the output of participatory research activity is more than journals or patents. Diverse strands of literature on knowledge and knowledge production including Mode 2, Learning modes and the notion of co-production of knowledge and social order are drawn and critically reviewed to elucidate the characteristics of citizen participatory transdisciplinary research.

Jet engine modulation(JEM) signals are widely used for target recognition. These signals coming from a potentially hostile aircraft provide specific information about the jet engine. In order to obtain the number of blades, which is uniquely provided by the JEM signal, one must extract the spool rate, which is the rotation speed of the blades. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to extract the spool rate from a weak JEM signal. A criterion is developed to extract the spool rate from the JEM signal by analyzing the intensity of the JEM signal component. The weak signal is first subjected to a high-pass filtering-based process, which modifies it to facilitate spool rate extraction. We then apply a peak detection process and extract the spool rate. The technique is simpler than the existing CEMD or WD method, is accurate, and greatly reduces the time required.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of robot arm reach training on upper extremity functional movement in chronic stroke survivors. Design: One group pretest-posttest design. Methods: Thirteen chronic stroke survivors participated in this study. Robot arm reach training was performed with a Whole Arm Manipulator (WAM) and a 120-inch projective display to provide visual and auditory feedback. During the robotic arm reach training, WAM provided gravity compensation and assist-as-needed (AAN) force according to the robot control mode. When a participant could not move the arm toward the target for more than 2 seconds, WAM provided AAN force to reach the desired targets. All patients participated in the training for 40 minutes per day, 3 times a week, for 4 weeks. Main outcome measures were the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA), Action Research Arm Test (ARAT) and Box and Block Test (BBT) to assess upper extremity functional movement. Results: After 4 weeks, significant improvement was observed in upper extremity functional movement (FMA: 42.15 to 46.23, BBT: 12.23 to 14.00, p<0.05). In the subscore analysis of the FMA upper extremity motor function domains, significant improvement was observed in upper extremity and coordination/speed units (p<0.05). However, there were no significant differences in the ARAT. Conclusions: This study showed the positive effects of robot arm reach training on upper extremity functional movement in chronic stroke survivors. In particular, we confirmed that robot arm reach training could have a positive influence by leading to improvement of motor recovery of the proximal upper extremity.

To improve the accuracy rate of guided weapons, many studies have been conducted on the accurate detection and identification of targets from sea clutter. Because of the variety and complicated characteristics of both sea-clutter and target signals, an active target recognition technique is required. In this study, we propose an algorithm to distinguish clutter and recognize targets by applying a fractal signature(FS) classifier, which is a fractal dimension, and a high-resolution target image(HRTI) classifier, which applies scene matching to an image formed from a scanned image. Simulation results using the algorithm revealed that the HRTI classifier recognized targets 1 and 2 at a 100 % rate, whereas the FS classifier recognized targets 1 and 2 at rates of 90 % and 93 %, respectively.
Background: In 2020, a categorized list of wetland preferences, major habitats, and life forms of 4145 vascular plant taxa occurring in the Korean Peninsula was published by the National Institute of Biological Resources. We analyzed the list and explored the distribution patterns of the five categorized groups according to wetland preference, along with the information on the major habitats and the life forms of the plants belonging to those categories. Results: Out of 4145 taxa, we found that 729 wetland plant taxa (18%) occur in Korea: 401 obligate wetland plants and 328 facultative wetland plants. Among the 729 wetland taxa, the majority (73%) was hygrophytes and the remaining 27% was aquatic macrophytes. Furthermore, almost all of the wetland taxa are herbs; so, woody plants are only 4.7%. The 16 carnivorous taxa distributed in Korea were characterized as obligate wetland plants. Conclusions: We expect the categorized information would promote understanding of the characteristics of the plant species and would be an important source for understanding, conservation, and restoration of wetland ecosystems.

In this study, the optimal driving frequency was derived through finite element analysis (FEA) to optimize the developed piezoelectric ultrasonic medical devices(PUMD) for bone surgery. The core of the PUMD is the piezoelectric ceramic (PZT), which is a vibrator that generates vibration energy. The piezoelectric ceramic shows the maximum current value with respect to the input voltage at the resonance frequency, which generates the maximum mechanical vibration. In the past, various studies have been conducted related to the analysis of PUMD, but most of the research so far has been limited to free vibration analysis. However, in order to derive the accurate resonant frequency, the initial stress generated by bolt tightening in the bolt-clamped Langevin type transducer (BLT) must be considered. In this study, after designing a PUMD, the driving performance according to the bolt tightening value was analyzed through FEA, and this was experimentally verified. First, the resonance mode and frequency response were confirmed through modal and harmonic analysis at 20-40 kHz, which is known as the optimal driving frequency band of PUMD for bone surgery. In addition, the design of the PUMD was confirmed by checking the mechanical behavior of the tip and the piezoelectric ceramic at the resonant frequency. Consequentially, the characteristic evaluation was performed, and it was confirmed that the resonant frequency result derived through the FEA was reasonable. Through this study, we presented a more rational FEA method than before for BLT transducers. We expect that this will shorten the time and cost of developing a PUMD, and will enable the development of more stable and high-quality products.

This study is to develop database by an experimental method for the development of condition based maintenance for auxiliary equipment in marine engine systems. Existing ships have been performing regular maintenance, so the actual measurement data development is very incomplete. Therefore, it is best to develop a database on land tests. In this paper, a database developed by an experimental method is presented. First, failure case analysis and reliability analysis were performed to select a failure mode. For the failure simulation test, a test bed for land testing was developed. The failure simulation test was performed based on the failure simulation scenario in which the failure simulation test plan was defined. A 1.5TB failure simulation database has been developed, and it is expected to serve as a basis for ship failure diagnosis and prediction algorithm model development.
