A 3-yr-old female mongrel dog was referred to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University in the Republic of Korea. An adult heartworm, Dirofilaria immitis, was found in the abdominal cavity of the dog during spaying. Dirofilariasis in this dog was also diagnosed by modified Knott's test, ELISA test, and PCR analysis. The present case is the first report on the migration of an adult dog heartworm to the abdominal cavity of a dog in the Republic of Korea.

Previously, we reported that the n-butanol fraction of Lonicera japonica showed anti-flammatory activity in mice and rats. Several constituents such a loniceroside A and B, flavonoids and iridoids were isolated from this fraction. In this investigation, the anti-inflammatory activity of the major constituents of L. japonica was studied. Loniceroside A, lonicerin and loganin showed anti-inflammatory activity comparable to aspirin.

In this paper, the study on development of an applicable logic on the characteristics of Rolling stocks will be proposed. In general, this logic which means decision logic or LTA(Logic Tree Analysis) is used to analyze how the failure mode have an effects on the system. The effect would be categorized as safety, operational, economical, etc. To do this, based on the typical logics which have been applied to other industries, such as plants, aero, etc. This paper emphasizes two crucial parameters that is one cost the other customer service, that have an important role in railway system operation. In conclusion, as mentioned above as the logic for which could be effectively applied for the railway system(RST) would be developed.

Although the number of incidences of illness caused by ingestion of the bacterial pathogen Enterobacter sakazakii (Cronobacter spp.) has dramatically declined, there remains a need for a robust isolation method to recover this microbe from powdered infant formula (PIF). The current method described in the FDA's Bacteriological Analytical Manual requires multiple steps, and 3-4+ days for complete analysis of PIF isolated E. sakazakii (Cronobacter spp.). We describe a bacteriological method including a one-step enrichment followed by plating on chromogenic agar for presumptive identification of E. sakazakii (Cronobacter spp.). Suspected colonies are confirmed by either biochemical analyses, or a Real-Time PCR-based assay. Using this method, E. sakazakii (Cronobacter spp.) in PIF can be isolated and identified within one day (24 hours).

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of antibacterial activity of Tibetan mushroom exopolysaccharide against foodborne pathogenic bacteria Staphylococcus aureus 305, Listeria monocytogenes ATCC19114, Escherichia coli O157:H7 ATCC42894 and Escherichia coli O55. The yield of exopolysaccharide isolated from Tibetan mushroom culture was 620 mg/L. The antibacterial activity of exopolysaccharide against foodborne pathogenic bacteria exhibited 15 mm and 12 mm clear zone against S. aureus 305 and L. monocytogenes ATCC 19114, respectively. However, no clear zone was observed against E. coli O157:H7 ATCC 42894 and E. coli O55. In conclusion, exopolysaccharide isolated from Tibetan mushroom culture have the antibacterial activity only against Gram-positive foodborne pathogenic bacteria.

This study was conducted to investigate the detection of various vector-borne pathogens in such cats. A total of 48 stray cats collected in Daejeon were included in this study. The total positive rate of hemotropic mycoplasmas and Babesia spp. was 25% and 4%, respectively. It is recommended that species-level classification of hemotropic mycoplasmas and Babesia spp. is needed and that a large-scale prevalence study of infectious agents in all the regions of South Korea be conducted.

Recently, a new method of evaluating left atrial size called vertebral left atrial size (VLAS) was introduced in dogs. Total 155 dogs were examined at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. In this study, myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) stage and VLAS showed a significant correlation in those dogs. Also, the relationship between C-reactive protein (CRP) and VLAS has yet to be examined. We found a strong positive correlation between VLAS and CRP-a significant increase in CRP was observed with increasing VLAS values. Thus, it would be beneficial to measure VLAS besides employing the current radiological and echocardiographic methods when evaluating heart size. Measuring VLAS could be an additional diagnostic tool for diagnosing MMVD in dogs.

Post-thyroidectomy syndrome refers to various voice changes experienced after the thyroid surgery. Among them, surgery or injection therapy has been prioritized over voice therapy for the bilateral vocal cord paralysis. However, if it is possible to determine whether voice therapy can be applied first, a faster treatment recovery will be possible. In this study, voice therapy was performed on a 59-year-old female patient with bilateral vocal cord paralysis after total thyroidectomy. This study is to presents the criteria for applying the voice therapy first for bilateral vocal folds paralysis and to share successful voice therapy sessions.
