  • A numerical study is made on the ice-formation for a laminar flow in a curved channel. When the water flows through the curved channel with the walls specified below the freezing temperature, the ice layer has been formed on the curved surface, different from that of a straight channel. The fluctuation of ice layer has been predicted, considering the variation of velocity and temperature near the curved portion of channel. The study also takes into account the interaction existing between the laminar flow and the curved channel. In the solution strategy, the present study is substantially different from the existing works in that the complete set of governing equations in both the solid and liquid regions are resolved. The results from this study have been mainly presented, focusing on the variation of ice layer close to the curved portion. Numerical results have been obtained parametrically by varying the curved angle and the radius of curvature of channel, in addition to the variation of Reynolds numbers and wall temperatures of channel. The results show that the curved shape of channel has the great effect on the thickness of the solidification layer. The wave of ice layer thickness appears in the vicinity of curved portion. This behavior of ice layer has been amplified as is the increasing of curved angle and the radius of curvature of channel. In addition, the ice layer becomes thin as Reynolds numbers in increasing. And also, as the wall temperature of channel increases, the width of channel becomes to be shrunk due to the growth of ice layers in the upper and lower wall of channel.

  • When a bomb explodes near a tunnel, generated muck should be quickly moved outside for rehabilitation of the tunnel. In this study, the amount of muck generated by an explosion was estimated and a methodology was presented for the prediction of the muck hauling time. To this end, 3D-meshes were made by using SoildWorks and blasting analyses were performed by using AUTODYN. A method was suggested to calculate theoretically the amount of muck which inflows into a tunnel based on the relationship between the tunnel and the fragmentation zone obtained from the analysis results. Also, muck hauling times were predicted based on the selection of construction equipment and the results were compared and analyzed. As a result, it was convinced that the amount of muck flowing into the tunnel could be effectively calculated by classifying the relationship between a tunnel and the fragmentation zone into 4 cases and using the mensuration by parts. Also it was confirmed that the closer blasting location is to the portal and the excavation surface of a tunnel, and the more blasting location deviates from the center line of the tunnel, the lesser amount of muck occurs and thus the muck hauling time decreases as well.

  • Problems created by supersonic jet impinging on solid objects or ground arise in a variety of situations. For example multi-stage rocket separation, deep-space docking, V/STOL aircraft, jet-engine exhaust, gas-turbine blade, terrestrial rocket launch, and so on. These impinging jet flows generally contain a complex structures. (mixed subsonic and supersonic regions, interacting shocks and expansion waves, regions of turbulent shear layer) This paper describes experimental works on the phenomena (surface pressure distribution, flow visualization) when underexpanded supersonic jets impinge on the perpendicular, inclined plate using a supersonic cold-(low system. The used supersonic nozzle is convergent-divergent type, exit Mach number 2, The maximum on the plate when it was inclined was much larger than perpendicular plate, owing to high pressure recoveries through multiple shocks. Surface pressure distribution as to underexpanded ratio showed similar patterns together.

  • The effect of Chitosan (CS), Carbon Nanotube (CNT) and hybrid (CS-CNT) fillers on the natural frequency of drilled composite plate is investigated by experimentally in this study. The numerical validation is also made with a program based on Finite Element Method (SolidWorks). Nine types filled and one neat composite plates are used in the study. The fillers ratios are 1% CS, 2% CS, 3% CS, 0.1% CNT, 0.2% CNT, 0.3% CNT, 1% CS+0.3% CNT, 2% CS+0.3% CNT, 3% CS+0.3% CNT. The specimens cut to certain sizes by water jet from the plates 400 mm × 400 mm in dimensions. Some of them are drilled in certain dimensions with drill. The natural frequency of each specimen is measured by the vibration test set up to determine the vibration characteristic. The vibration test set up includes an accelerometer, a current source power unit, a data acquisition card and a computer. A code is written in Matlab® program for the signal processing. The study are investigated and discussed in four main points to understand the effect of the fillers on the natural frequency of the composite plate. These are the effect of fillers contents and amounts, orientation angles of fibers, holes numbers and holes sizes. As results, the natural frequency of the plate with 1% CS and 0.1% CNT hybrid filler is lower than those of the plates with other fillers ratios for 45° orientation angle. Besides, in the composite plate with 0° orientation angle, the natural frequency increases with increasing the filler ratio. Moreover, the natural frequency increases until a certain hole number and then it decreases. Furthermore, the natural frequency is not affected until a certain hole diameter but then it decreases.

  • In this study, a numerical analysis is made on the ice-formation for laminar water flow inside a stenotic tube. The study takes into account the interaction between the laminar flow and the stenotic port in the circular tube. The purpose of the present numerical investigation is to assess the effect of a stenotic shape on the instantaneous shape of the flow passage during freezing upstream/downstream of the stenotic channel. In the solution strategy, the present study is substantially distinguished from the existing works in that the complete set of governing equations in both the solid and liquid regions are resolved. In a channel flow between parallel plates, the agreement between the of predictions and the available experimental data is very good. Numerical analyses are performed for parametric variations of the position and heights of stenotic shape and flow rate. The results show that the stenotic shape has the great effect on the thickness of the solidification layer inside the tube. As the height of a stenosis grows and the length of a stenosis decreases, the ice layer thickness near the stenotic port is thinner, due to backward flow caused by the sudden expansion of a water tunnel. It is found that the flow passage has a slight uniform taper up to the stenotic channel, at which a sudden expansion is observed. It is also shown that the ice layer becomes more fat in accordance with its Reynolds number.

  • This study examines the Korean traditional and characteristic coloring through the color of Korean traditional embroidery. This research gives the chance to establish the cultural identity of Korea and presents the aesthetic standard of color images. Also, practical use of Korean traditional colors through this study provide opportunities which develope cultural merchandise in the world. were chosen as the references to analyzed the Korean traditional colors through gungsu: court embroidery, buddhist embroidery, everyday embroidery and clothing embroidery. Because this book published in commemoration of '20th General Conference and 21th General Assembly of ICOM' in 2004, which presented excellence of Asian culture. The color of these works were divided by 'Pantone Solid Color Chips' which organized by CMYK color system and categorized by Obangsaek. 'Gungsu' had vivid and splendid color sense which used strong and bright colors and 'buddhist embroidery' had mild and mysterious feelings which used low saturation.'Everyday embroidery' used the red color group frequently and 'clothing embroidery' had brighter colors comparing to other embroidery groups. The 'Chung(blue)' group had diverse color tone rather than one-tone color. This means that Koreans prefer the 'Chung' and used it regularly, also this color symbolized the racial characteristics. Even though 'Whang(yellow)' was prohibited because the color for emperor, in the case of embroidery, there were a variety of yellow colors from 'gold' to pale yellow and grayish yellow. The arrangement of colors in 'gungsu', tone on tone, complementary and bicolore coloring was used mostly which presented a strong and elegant color sense. On the other side, 'buddhist embroidery' used tonal coloring which gave gentle and noble feeling. 'Everyday embroidery' presented separation and accented coloring which was the example of common people's humor and originality. In the case of 'clothing embroidery', there was dominant lightness, separation, tone on tone and camaieu coloring which added gorgeousness in Korean traditional clothing.

  • Since LEDs (light emitting diodes) have many advantages as a light source in vehicle headlamp, such as good reliability, energy and space saving, and flexible headlamp design. On the other hand, the dependence of its performance and life on temperature have great influence on its practical use. In this study, design and fabrication of heat sink for vehicle LED headlamp were performed using thermally-conductive plastics. This study focused on the effective heat sink structure with limited space in the vehicle LED headlamp. We designed two different prototype of heat sink by thermal simulation using SolidWorks program, which had excellent temperature characteristics. The two different prototype of heat sink were fabricated by injection molding with thermally-conductive plastics. The results showed that LED $T_j$ (junction temperature) of sample B (model 1) and sample C (model 1, 2) was below then $165^{\circ}C$ when applying the thermally-conductive plastics in heat sink of vehicle LED headlamp.

  • The purpose of this study is examining thermal dissipation materials for the lighting and radiate efficiency improvement of 8W LED and confirming the properness of the thermal dissipation materials for LED heat sink. Solid Works flow simulation on 8W class COB was done based on the material characteristics of thermal conductive polymer materials. According to the result of simulation, Al had better thermal dissipation performance than PET. Highest temperature was $7.6^{\circ}C$ higher while lowest temperature was $7.8^{\circ}C$ lower. The test on the heat sinks made by the materials, highest temperature was $4.1^{\circ}C$ higher and lowest temperature was $3.9^{\circ}C$ lower. It is possible to confirm that Al heat sink has better thermal dissipation efficiency because it has better dispersion of heat generated at junction temperature and less heat cohesion. The weight of PET heat sink was reduced than Al heat sink by 46.9% by the density difference between Al and PET. In conclusion, thermal dissipation performance of thermal conductive polymer is lower than Al material however, it is possible to lighting heat sink because thermal conductive polymer has better formability, has lower specific weight and enables various design options.

  • We have investigated the output characteristics of a Nd:YAG oscillator with a Stimulated Brillouin Scattering phase conjugation mirror (SBS-PCM). FC-75 is used as an SBS gain medium and Cr:YAG (T=50%) as a Q-switcher. The SBS-PCM consists of an SBS-cell and a simple plano-convex focusing lens system. For the case of not using a Q-switcher, an SBS-cell doesn't work as a phase conjugation mirror. For the case of using a Q-switcher, the energy characteristics remains nearly the same whether using the SBS-cell or not using it. The pulse width is reduced from 50 ns to 40 ns by an SBS-PCM. When the SBS-cell is used with a Q- switcher, the SBS-cell works very well as a phase conjugation mirror and its beam-profile is improved dramatically. And in order to explain the progression of beam-profile, we propose a simple model based on the nonlinear reflectivity of the SBS-PCM, whose reflectivity is dependent on the pumping intensity at the focal plane.

  • The cochlea of the inner ear has two core components, basilar membrane and hair cells. The basilar membrane disperses incoming sound waves by their frequencies. The hair cells are on the basilar membrane, and they are the sensory receptors generating bioelectric signals. In this paper, a biomimetic technology using ZnO piezoelectric nano-pillar was studied as the part of developing process for artificial cochlea and novel artificial mechanosensory system mimicking human auditory senses. In particular, ZnO piezoelectric nano-pillar was fabricated by both low and high temperature growth methods. ZnO piezoelectric nano-pillars were grown on solid (high temperature growth) and flexible (low temperature growth) substrates. The substrates were patterned prior to ZnO nano-pillar growth so that we can selectively grow ZnO nano-pillar on the substrates. A multi-physical simulation was also conducted to understand the behavior of ZnO nano-pillar. The simulation results show electric potential, von Mises stress, and deformation in the ZnO nano-pillar. Both the experimental and computational works help characterize and optimize ZnO nano-pillar.
