  • Mechanical strength of functionally graded composite plates that composed of ceramic, functionally graded material and metal layers is investigated using 3-D finite element method. In FGM layer, material properties are assumed to be varied continuously in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fraction of a ceramic and metal. The 3-D finite element model is adopted by using an IS-node solid element to analyze more accurately the variation of material properties in the thickness direction. Numerical results are compared with those of the previous works. In addition, the displacements, the tensile stresses and the compressive stresses are analyzed for the variation of FGM thickness ratio and volume fraction distribution.Mechanical strength of functionally graded composite plates that composed of ceramic, functionally graded material and metal layers is investigated using 3-D finite element method. • This study is to confirm the deformation of blade when the location of stacking is moving. Also, it desire to determine the most stable location of stacking from the analysis. In the previous study, it is Known that moving the location of stacking is not influence to the aerodynamic performance. In this study SolidWorks premium 2010 SP4 is used for structure analysis. In reference blade and other 3 model analysis, the two mesh type is used, one is standard mesh type in SolidWorks, the other is curvature-based mesh type. The result of curvature-based mesh type is more stable than one of the standard mesh type regardless of mesh size, the number of mesh. The deformation of blade tip is the smallest, when the location of stacking is identical to the center of gravity of the blade section profile. So, if possible is design, this study recommends that the location of stacking is identical to the center of gravity the blade.

  • When designing a gear, designers determine basic dimensions of a gear with transmitted power considering strength, interference and so on. But, designers can not easily obtain the tooth profile generated by dimensions as well as the geometry of generating hob for cutting the tooth profile. In order to resolve these problems, an automatic design system creating not only the solid model of a gear but also that of the generating hob using the design parameters of dimensions is developed. Through the developed system, designers system, designers can improve the efficiency of design and satisfy the variable requirements of design as well. In this research, the three-dimensional solid models for spur and helical gears are generated considering the design parameters. Besides, those for generating hob regarding the design parameters of hob is created automatically. The system is developed by using Visual Basic and its three-dimensional geometric modeling module is constructed by using SolidWorks.

  • As Korea's low fertility and aging progress, Korea is facing a social change such as an increase of one generation by entering an aging society that has raised 14% of the population. An effective way to prevent a gas fire accident caused by an increase in one generation in an aging society is to install a control valve to forcibly shut off the gas after a set time. In this study, we developed a valve that can be opened and closed by rotating the valve left and right by transmitting power to the worm gear and the helical gear by using a motor by pressing the switch. It is easy to assemble and inspect by developing a dedicated valve that is easy to attach and detach. It was developed to enhance competitiveness by reducing cost by reducing the number of parts and product size. In addition, through endurance test, it was developed to be used for more than 9 years by repeating ON / OFF once every 12 seconds so that it can operate stably for 10,000 times for 34 hours. The instrument and PCB were designed using solid works and Altium Designer tools. Firmware development was developed in IAR Embedded Workbench environment.

  • This study aimed to create 3D-printed insoles for flat-footed senior men using 3D systems. 3D systems are product-manufacturing systems that use 3-dimensional technologies like 3D scanning, 3D modeling, and 3D printing. This study used a 3D scanner (NexScan2), 3D CAD programs including Rapidform, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Nauta+ compiling program, and a 3D printer. In order to create insoles for flat-footed senior men, we analyzed horizontal sections of 3D foot scans We selected 20 flat-footed and 20 normal-footed subjects. To make the 3D insole models, we sliced nine lines on the surface of the subjects' 3D foot scans, and plotted 144 points on the lines. We calculated the average of these 3D coordinates, then located this average within the 3D space of the AutoCAD program and created 3D sole models using the loft surface tools of the SolidWorks program. The sole models for flat feet differed from those of normal feet in the depth of the arch at the inner sideline and the big toe line. We placed the normal-footed sole model on a flat-footed sole model, and the combination of the two models resulted in the 3D insole for flat feet. We printed the 3D modeled insole using a 3D printer. The 3D printing material was an acrylic resin similar to rubber. This made the insole model flexible and wearable. This study utilized 3D systems to create 3D insoles for flat-footed seniors and this process can be applied to manufacture other items in the fashion industry as well.

  • This article provides a panoramic overview of the state-of-the-art technologies in the field of solid-state hydrogen storage methods. The emerging solid-state hydrogen storage techniques, such as nanostructured carbon materials, metal organic framework (MOFs), metal and inter-metal hydrides, clathrate hydrates, complex chemical hydride are discussed. The hydrogen storage capacity of the solid-sate hydrogen storage materials increases in proportion to the surface area of the solid materials. Also, it is believed that new functional nanostructured materials will offer far-reaching solutions to the development of on-board hydrogen storage system for the application of the transportation vehicles.

  • Environmental test is divided into operation test and storage test. The temperature of storage test is induced temperature which is considered with all sort of the heat source. Induced temperature is the temperature to be adapted to each item and platform and can be induced by computer simulation, laboratory, and real field test. We considered the induced temperature to be associated with solar heat source. In this research. First, we compared the induced temperature which be occurred by one experiment for thin plate in solar test chamber with the other one which be occurred by computer simulation to be SolidWorks 2007 COSMOS FloWorks. After this verification, we showed induced temperature which can be occurred when the test item is stored. Especially, we bring out the induced temperature by applying the ambient temperatures which is presented by MIL-STD-810F and brought out in preceding research.

  • This paper deals with a development of 2-DOF flutter experiment equipment which represents a 2-DOF typical section model. For a conventional 2-DOF flutter experiment equipment, it is hard to observe flutter boundary clearly due to the complexity of the experiment equipment. To refine our flutter experiment equipment system, a compliant mechanism based torsional spring is used. Well-designed extruded aluminum pipe works as a torsional spring. SolidWorks and ANSYS are used for modeling, analysis and design of the torsional spring. With this designed torsional spring, the 2-DOF flutter experiment equipment is developed and wind tunnel tests are performed. Clear flutter boundary which is estimated by classical flutter analysis is observed in the experiments.

  • A CAD-based seamless design system for MEMS named DS/MEMS was developed which performs coupled-field analysis, optimal and robust design. DS/MEMS has been developed by means of integrating commercial codes and inhouse code-SolidWorks, FEMAP, ANSYS and CA/MEMS. This strategy results in versatility that means to include various analysis model, corresponding analyses and approximated design sensitivity analysis and user friendliness that design variables are taken to be selectable directly from a CAD model, that the problem is formulated under a window environment and that the manual job during optimization process is almost eliminated. DS/MEMS works on a parametric CAD platform, integrating CAD modeling, analysis, and optimization. Nonlinear programming algorithms, the Taguchi method, and response surface method are made available for optimization. One application problem is taken to illustrate the proposed methodology and show the feasibility of DS/MEMS as a practical tool.
