A pellet of polycrystalline $CuGaO_2$ with a delafossite structure was prepared from $Ga_2O_3$ and CuO by high-temperature solid-state synthesis. The $CuGaO_2$ pellet was a p-type semiconductor for which the electrical conductivity, carrier density, carrier mobility and Seebeck coefficient were $5.34{\times}10^{-2}{\Omega}^{-1}cm^{-1}$, $3.5{\times}10^{20}cm^{-3}$, $9.5{\times}10^{-4}cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$ at room temperature, and $+360{\mu}V/K$, respectively. It also exhibited two optical transitions at about 2.7 and 3.6 eV. The photoelectrochemical properties of the $CuGaO_2$ pellet electrode were investigated in aqueous electrolyte solutions. The flat-band potential of this electrode, determined using a Mott-Schottky plot, was +0.18 V vs SCE at pH 4.8 and followed the Nernst equation with respect to pH. Under UV light illumination, a cathodic photocurrent developed, and molecular hydrogen simultaneously evolved on the surface of the electrode due to the direct reduction of water without deposition of any metal catalyst.
V2O5/TiO2-ZrO2 catalyst modified with V2O5 was prepared by adding Ti(OH)4-Zr(OH)4 powder into an aqueous solution of ammonium metavanadate followed by drying and calcining at high temperatures. The characterization of prepared catalysts was performed using XRD, DSC, solid-state 51V NMR, and FTIR. In the case of calcination temperature of 500 oC, for the catalysts containing low loading V2O5 below 25 wt % vanadium oxide was in a highly dispersed state, while for catalysts containing high loading V2O5 equal to or above 25 wt % vanadium oxide was well crystallized due to the V2O5 loading exceeding the formation of monolayer on the surface of TiO2-ZrO2. The strong acid sites were formed through the bonding between dispersed V2O5 and TiO2-ZrO2. The larger the dispersed V2O5 amount, the higher both the acidity and catalytic activities for acid catalysis.

Voltage-current profiles are measured when hydrogen-oxygen gas is in contact with solid polymer membrane ($Nafion^{(R)}$) as the electrolyte. The feed gas is prepared by mixing hydrogen and oxygen gas in various ratios. The carbon gas diffusion electrodes contacting the electrolyte are treated by platinum catalyst. The platinum surface is impregnated with a 5% $Nafion^{(R)}$ solution to ensure its good surface contact with the electrolyte. The constant voltage between anode and cathode was applied by a DC power supply. The results on the profiles show that the energy efficiency critically depends on the hydrogen concentration in $H_2/O_2$ mixture gas.

Based on the differential electrode equilibria approach, potentiometric YSZ sensors with semiconducting oxide electrodes for CO detection are developed. To improve the selectivity, sensitivity and response-time of the sensor, our strategy includes (a) selection of an oxide with a semiconducting response to CO, (b) addition of other semiconducting materials, (c) addition of a catalyst (Pd), (d) utilization of combined p- and n-type electrodes in one sensor configuration, and (e) optimization of operating temperatures. Excellent sensing performance is obtained by a novel device structure incorporating $La_2CuO_4$ electrodes on one side and $TiO_2$-based electrodes on opposite substrate faces with Pt contacts. The resulting response produces additive effects for the individual $La_2CuO_4$ and $TiO_2$-based electrodes voltages, thereby realizing an even higher CO sensitivity. The device also is highly selective to CO versus NO with minor sensitivity for NO concentration, compared to a notably large CO sensitivity.
To direct the evolution of nanostructure and immobilize ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalyst, nanocrystalline La-doped-$Al_2O_3$ powder were prepared by the sol-gel process with addition of an amphiphilic block copolymer template (pluronic P123: $(poly(ethyleneoxide)_{20}-poly(propyleneoxide)_{70}-poly(ethyleneoxide)_{20})$. The dried gel is amorphous, whereas heating at temperature above $700^{\circ}C$ leads to the formation of nanocrystalline ${\gamma}$ and ${\delta}-Al_2O_3$ and these two phases is kept until $1100^{\circ}C$. ${\alpha}-A1_2O_3 $starts to form at $1200^{\circ}C$ with $LaAl_{11}O_{18}$. The surface morphology and crystal structure has been observed by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Solid state $^{27}Al$ MAS NMR indicates two types of local environment, i.e. octahedral and tetrahedral sites. The surface area and pore size was compared among these powders using the BET nitrogen adsorption measurements.
We identified pyrolysis condition, effect of catalyzer and pyrolysis mechanism through contact decomposed method by adding Bentonite in waste plastic of hospital solid waste. The result from this study were summarized as the followings: 1. The optimum fuel oil were obtained when hospital wasted plastic (P.P) and Bentonite were mixed in the ratio of 30:1. 2. Maximum absorption wave of hospital wasted plastic (P.P) appeared at 2900cm$^{-1}$, 1480cm$^{-1}$, 1360cm$^{-1}$ and 1180 cm$^{-1}$ by FT-IR and the plastics were identified and confirmed. 3. Reaction temperature of hospital wasted plastic started at 360$\circ$C, proceed rapidly at 437.5$\circ$C and finished at 481$\circ$C. The residue was 0.729%. When bentonire was added started at 318$\circ$C, proceed rapidly at 399.5$\circ$C and finished at 449.3$\circ$C, the residue being 4.23%. 4. Pyrolysis products of hospital wasted plastic were about 90 kinds. The Main components were 2-Heptene-3-ethyl-4-trimethyl (27.4%), 1-Heptene-2-isobutyl-6-methyl (8.6%) and 1-Heptene decene (7.7%). There was little component difference at different temperature. This is the result from stability of decomposition product. 5. Pyrolysis efficiency increased by the addition Bentonire. 6. Some of the Environmental and Sanitary problems could be solved by the pyrolysis of hospital wasted plastic and the decomposed products were to be used as fuel oil.
Perovskite type ceramic membranes which exhibit dual ion conduction (proton and oxygen ion conduction) can permeate water and can aid solving operational problems such as temperature gradient and carbon deposition associated with a working solid oxide fuel cell. From this point of view, it is crucial to reveal water transport mechanism and especially the nature of the surface sites that is necessary for water incorporation and evolution. $BaCe_{0.8}Y_{0.2}O_{3-{\alpha}}$ (BCY20) was used as a model proton and oxygen ion conducting membrane in this work. Four different catalytically modified membrane configurations were used for the investigations and water flux was measured as a function of temperature. In addition, CO was introduced to the permeate side in order to test the stability of membrane against water and $CO/CO_2$ and post operation analysis of used membranes were carried out. The results revealed that water incorporation occurs on any exposed electrolyte surface. However, the magnitude of water permeation changes depending on which membrane surface is catalytically modified. The platinum increases the water flux on the feed side whilst it decreases the flux on the permeate side. Water flux measurements suggest that platinum can block water permeation on the permeate side by reducing the access to the lattice oxygen in the surface layer.

In order to minimize emission of polychlorinated dibenzo dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzo furans (PCDD/PCDFs) from municipal solid waste incinerators, it is important to maintain optimized operating conditions along with the system modification/improvement. Operating conditions of MSW incinerator make very complicated influence on formation of PCDD/PCDFs in each unit apparatus. For revealing these influences, concentrations of PCDD/PCDFs are measured from the stack and from the fly ash, while monitoring the plant operating conditions. The effects are grouped into 3 main categories, combustion conditions, de Novo synthesis effects, and adsorption/destruction effects in the flue gas treatment system. Interpretation of the results showed that de Novo synthesis effect, reformation by metalic catalyst, especially Cu in fly ash in the temperature range of $250{\sim}500^{\circ}C$, is found to influence most dominantly on the concentration of PCDD/PCDFs. A plausible mathmatical model for predicting concentration of PCDD/PCDFs is proposed, and discussed.

The ZnO nanorods were synthesized using vapor-solid (VS) method on sodalime glass substrate without the presence of metal catalyst. ZnO nanorods were prepared thermal evaporation of Zn powder at $500^{\circ}C$. As-fabricated ZnO nanorods had an average diameter and length of 85 nm and 1.7 $\mu\textrm{m}$. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that the ZnO nanorods were single crystalline with the growth direction perpendicular to the (101) lattice plane. The influences of reaction time on the formation of the ZnO nanorods were investigated. The photoluminescence measurements showed that the ZnO nanorods had a strong ultraviolet emission at around 380 nm and a green emission at around 500 nm.

The objective of this study is to characterize design parameters of rocket igniters for composite, double base and nitramine propellant. Arc image furnace and fiber optics surface reflectometer were used to measure ignition delay time and reflected optical energy of several compositions of composite, double base and nitramine base rocket propellant at different pressure levels each other. The order of ignitability was double base > composite > Nitramine propellants at initial pressure of over 75 psia. The highest ignition energy was needed to ignite nitramine propellant, however, as the pressure increased up to the range of $75{\sim}400$ psia as the ignition delay time decreased abruptly. The absorbtion of radiation energy could be increased by the addition of small amount of opacifiers as carbon black, ZrC, WC and burning catalyst.
