Improved P&O algorithm for rapidly changing insolation (일사량 급변에 대한 P&O 알고리즘의 개선)

  • As the maximum power operating point (MPOP) of photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems changes with varying atmospheric conditions such as solar radiation and temperature, an important consideration in the design of efficient PV system is to track the MPOP correctly. Although the efficiency of these Maximum Power Point Tracking algorithms is usually high, it drops noticeably in case of rapidly changing atmospheric conditions. This paper describes common MPPT control algorithm: Constant Voltage Control, Perturbation and Observation(P&O), Incremental Conductance (IncCnd) and proposes a new MPPT algorithm based on P&O algorithm. The conception and control principles of the proposed MPPT method are explained in detail and its validity of the proposed method is verified through several simulated results. As it doesn't use digital signal processor, this MPPT method has the merits of both a cost efficiency and a simple control circuit design. Therefore, it is considered that the proposed MPPT method is proper to low power, low cost PV applications.

Design of Power and Load Reduction Controller for a Medium-Capacity Wind Turbine (중형 풍력터빈의 출력 및 타워 하중저감 제어기 설계)

  • A control algorithm for a 100 kW wind turbine is designed in this study. The wind turbine is operating as a variable speed variable pitch (VSVP) status. Also, this wind turbine is a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) Type. For the medium capacity wind turbine considered in this study, it was found that the optimum tip speed ratios to achieve the maximum power coefficients varied with wind speeds. Therefore a commercial blade element momentum theory and multi-body dynamics based program was implemented to consider the variation of aerodynamic coefficients with respect to Reynolds numbers and to find out the power and thrust coefficients with respect tip speed ratio and blade pitch angles. In the end a basic power controller was designed for below rated, transition and above rated regions, and a load reduction algorithm was designed to reduce tower vibration by the nacelle motion. As a result, damage equivalent Load (DEL) of tower fore-aft has been reduced by 32%. From dynamic simulations in the commercial program, the controller was found to work properly as designed. Experimental validation of the control algorithm will be done in the future.

  • A solar power generation system on single point moored offshore plant has independent power system In order to satisfy the maritime environment and account for the number of sunless days, it is important to supply stable electric power to the systems. For these reasons, solar panels are installed in multiple directions. However, a partial shading effect occurs because the amount of light incident on each panel is different. The generated power by the solar generation system installed on land is affected by the latitude, then it is installed at an angle of 30 to $45^{\circ}$. in the case of Korea. In the case of a solar power generation system installed in a mooring type of marine plant, there is a possibility that the maximum power point is outside of the controllable range due to the partial shading effect. Therefore, a power generation loss occurs. By reducing the light amount difference between both panels, the maximum power point can exist in a range where the MPPT algorithm can track the power. The purpose is so the power generation efficiency can be further increased. In this paper, simulation results show that the highest power generation efficiency is obtained at an installation angle of $20^{\circ}$.

Energy Balance and Power Performance Analysis for Satellite in Low Earth Orbit

  • The electrical power system (EPS) of Korean satellites in low-earth-orbit is designed to achieve energy balance based on a one-orbit mission scenario. This means that the battery has to be fully charged at the end of a one-orbit mission. To provide the maximum solar array (SA) power generation, the peak power tracking (PPT) method has been developed for a spacecraft power system. The PPT is operated by a software algorithm, which tracks the peak power of the SA and ensures the battery is fully charged in one orbit. The EPS should be designed to avoid the stress of electronics in order to handle the main bus power from the SA power. This paper summarizes the results of energy balance to achieve optimal power sizing and the actual trend analysis of EPS performance in orbit. It describes the results of required power for the satellite operation in the worst power conditions at the end-of-life, the methods and input data used in the energy balance, and the case study of energy balance analyses for the normal operation in orbit. Both 10:35 AM and 10:50 AM crossing times are considered, so the power performance in each case is analyzed with the satellite roll maneuver according to the payload operation concept. In addition, the data transmission to the Korea Ground Station during eclipse is investigated at the local-time-ascending-node of 11:00 AM to assess the greatest battery depth-of-discharge in normal operation.

  • This paper proposes a novel maximum power point tracking (MPPT) system using a fuzzy logic control (FLC) algorithm for robust in-environment changing. The power available at the output of a photovoltaic (PV) cell continues to change with radiation and temperature because a solar cell exhibits nonlinear current-voltage characteristics. Therefore, the maximum power point (MPP) of PV cells varies with radiation and temperature. The MPPT methods are used in PV systems to make full utilization of the PV array output power, which depends on radiation and temperature. The conventional MPPT control methods such as constant voltage (CV), perturbation and observation (PO) and incremental conductance (IC) have been studied but these methods are problematic in that they fail to take into account the changing environment. The proposed FLC controller is based on the fuzzy control algorithm and facilitates robust control with the environmental changes. Also, the PV systems applied FLC controller is modeled by PSIM and the response characteristics of the FLC method according to environmental variations are analyzed through comparison with the performance of conventional methods. The validity of this controller is shown through response results.

  • This paper is proposed a approximation control method(ACM) for the maximum power of a photovoltaic system. It is designed for power systems application and utilities. The proposed Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT) control has the advantage to provide a new simple way to approximate the optimal or rated voltage, the optimal or rated current and maximum power rating produced by a solar panel and the photovoltaic inverter. And this straightforward method has the advantage that Pmax and $V_{op}$ can be approximated using the same variable as the dynamic model without using complicate approximations or Taylor series. This paper is proposed MPPT using AMC using weather condition of domestic moderate program technique. This paper is proposed the experimental results to verify the effectiveness of the new methods.

  • Photovoltaic is an attractive technology to remote power applications, because of its reliability, low maintenance, and zero fuel requirements. In this paper represents residential PV system based on BESS(battery energy storage system) for managing the electric power, a pattern of daily operation considering the load characteristics of the house, the generation characteristics of PV power, and utility power leveling. For apply to control algorithm, we consider the load on monthly power consumption trend and daily usage pattern. As for the control of the proposed system, to increase the conversion efficiency of the PV power, bidirectional converter is used for MPPT and SPWM inverter. An experimental system is implemented, and some experimental results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system.

  • In solar power system, the height and azimuth of the sun are important parameters which control generated power magnitude. The way that controls the daily generation magnitude according to latitude and longitude and uses two axles is often used in the existing sunlight racing system now. In this two-axle sunlight track control system the self-load is concentrated on one FRAME. It is influenced of the regular load, snow load and the wind load, etc. It is difficult to set up the system in the building already built up. This research is a development about the small-scale economy track device of independent load-dispersing type solar generation system. The position track algorithm is through calculating the trail of height and azimuthal of the sun calculation to follow the sun.

  • In order to increase the power generation efficiency of the photovoltaic system, a new algorithm that can follow the maximum power point of the photovoltaic power generation system having nonlinear output characteristics is proposed. Conventional maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms such as Perturbation and Observation (P&O) and InCond (Increment and Conductance) schemes can not find the global maximum power point at a plurality of pole points in the unmatched state of unbalanced PV modules. However, even if the global maximum power point is found at a plurality of pole points, the global maximum power that can not be the real maximum power by the photovoltaic generation system. In order to solve this problem, a few PV companies propose installing several small PV inverters instead of if big one. However, since this will require additional costs, we herein propose a Multi-MPPT system using individual 3-point MPPT to track true MPPT at a plurality of pole points in the unmatched state of unbalanced PV modules.

  • This paper describes the development of 7he utility vehicle controller using combination system of battery and photovoltaic power for increasing operation time. In order to keep interchangeability, low cost and high performance, a separately excited DC Motor is controlled without velocity and current measurements by $\mu$-processor. For the parallel operation between the solar cell and battery, dc-dc converter is used, which is applied to the maximum power Point tracking(MPPT) and current control algorithm. By the simulation and experimental results of trial product, the vapidity of the proposed system is verified.
