  • Acifluorfen tolerance charateristics determined the involvement of absorption, translocation, and metabolism in acifluorfen tolerance. Less than 6% of the applied $^{14}C-acifluorfen$ was absorbed. There were no differences in acifluorfen absorption between susceptible and tolerant somaclones. More $^{14}C-acifluorfen$ was translocated in the susceptible than the tolerant somaclones. The susceptible somaclone did not metabolize acifluorfen while some somaclones (i.e.,EBN-3A) metabolized $^{14}C-acifluorfen$. Nomenclature: Acifluorfen, 5-[2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]-2-nitrobenzoic acid; eastern black night shade, Solanum ptycanthum Dun.,$#^3$ SOLPT.

  • In order to find out the values of the steroid resources for the future use, the compositions and contents of steroidal sapogenins from 13 domestic plants have been investigated. As a result Dioscorea nipponica, D. quinqueloba and Smilax china were found to have large amount of diosgenin. And pennogenin in Trillium kamtschaticum and Paris verticillata, yuccagenin in Allium fistulosum, hecogenin in Agave americana and neochlorogenin in Solanum nigum were appeared to be major steroidal sapogenins.

  • Factors affecting thermostability of polyphenol oxidase (PPO) from potato were studied for the purpose of providing useful information for food processing operations. The enzyme was most stable at pH 7.0 and it was inhibited to 70% after heat treatment at 8$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 min. The z-value for the thermal inactivation of the PPO was 12.17$\pm$0.58$^{\circ}C$. The thermostability of the enzyme was reduced by addition of sodium chloride. And the activity was inhibited by addition of reducing reagents such as 2-mercaptoethanol and dithiothreitol.

  • Introduction: Liver fibrosis is defined unbalance of collagen metabolism, especially a stimulation of collagen synthesis and inhibition of collagen degradation, and antifibrotic effect is delaying or inhibition of new collagen synthesis and deposition in liver tissue. In this study, we investigated the antifibrotic and antioxidative effect of Solanum lycopersicum (SL) in liver fibrosis induced rats. Methods: : Rats were randomly divided in three groups (normal, CCl$_4$ and CCl$_4$-SL group) and were received 0.6 ml mixture of CCl$_4$ and olived oil (1:1 v/v) 3 times/week for 4 weeks except of the normal group. • In December 2020, stem and leaf rot symptoms in small-fruited tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) plants were observed in a farmer's vinyl greenhouse located in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, Korea. The incidence of diseased plants in the vinyl greenhouse was 2-6%. Seven single-spore isolates of Phoma sp. were obtained from the diseased stems and leaves. All the isolates were identified as Boeremia linicola based on the cultural, morphological and molecular characteristics. Two isolates of B. linicola were tested for pathogenicity on stems and leaves of small-fruited tomato and large-fruited tomato using artificial inoculation. All the tested isolates caused stem and leaf rot symptoms in the inoculated plants. The symptoms were similar to those observed in plants from the vinyl greenhouse investigated. This is the first report of B. linicola causing stem and leaf rot in tomato.

  • In this study, we investigated the effect of Solanum nigrum aerial parts (SNAP) on macrophage activation and macrophage autophagy in RAW264.7 cells. SNAP increased the production of immunostimulatory factors and phagocytosis in RAW264.7 cells. TLR4 inhibition blocked SNAP-mediated production of immunostimulatory factors. In addition, the JNK inhibition reduced the SNAP-mediated production of immunostimulatory factors, and the SNAP-mediated JNK activation was blocked by the TLR4 inhibition. SNAP activated macrophage autophagy. TLR4 inhibition blocked SNAP-mediated macrophage autophagy and inhibition of p38 and JNK attenuated SNAP-mediated macrophage autophagy. These findings indicate that SNAP may induce TLR4/JNK-mediated macrophage activation and TLR4/p38 and JNK-mediated macrophage autophagy.
