  • A nickel foam, one of metal foams was seleced as a catalyst support instead of conventional ceramic materials. $Al_2O_3$ was coated on the surface of nickel foam to increase the surface area. $Al_2O_3$ coating process was based on sol-gel process. SEM image was obtained and $Al_2O_3$ coverage was confirmed. Combustion experiments were carried out using SUS combustor and $H_2$/air mixture. Temperatures were measured with different equivalence ratios and $H_2$ flow rates. $H_2$ conversion rates were calculated by the analysis of product gas using gas chromatography. Catalytic combustion of $H_2$ was complete and stable with Pt/$Al_2O_3$ coated nickel foam and influences of water vapor were confirmed during the beginning of combustion.

  • Siloxane thin films were fabricated on a silicon wafer by spin-coating using a siloxane solution made by the sol-gel process. Fluorine was doped using$ CF_4$ plasma treatment. The film was then annealed in-situ state in the nitrogen atmosphere. In order to examine the influence of annealing and fluorine doping on the siloxane thin film, thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used and the dielectric constant was determined by the high-frequency capacitance-voltage method. Stable siloxane films could be obtained by in-situ annealing in a nitrogen atmosphere after $CF_4$ plasma treatment, and the dielectric value of the film was $\varepsilon$ 2.5.

  • Ferroelectric $Bi_{3.35}Sm_{0.65}Ti_3O_{12}(BST)$ thin films were deposited on $Pt(111)/Ti/SiO_2/Si(100)$ substrates by a sol-gel spin-coating process. In this experiments, $Bi(TMHD)_3$, $Sm_5(O^iPr)_{13}$, $Ti(O^iPr)_4$ were used as precursors, which were dissolved in 2-methoxyethanol. Thereafter, the thin films with the thickness, of 240nm were annealed from 600 to $720^{\circ}C$ in oxygen atmosphere for 1 hr, and post-annealed in oxygen atmosphere for 1 hr after deposition of Pt electrode to enhance the electrical properties. The remanent polarization and coercive voltage of the BST thin films annealed at $720^{\circ}C$ were $19.48\;{\mu}C/cm^2$ and 3.40 V, respectively, and a fatigue-free characteristics. As a result, Sm-substituted bismuth titanate films with good ferroelectric properties and excellent fatigue resistance are useful candidates for ferroelectric memory applications.

  • We fabricated (110) silicon hard master by using anisotropic wet etching for embossing. The etching chemical for the silicon wafer was a TMAH $25\%$ solution. The anisotropic wet etching produces a smooth sidewall surface and the surface roughness of the fabricated master is about 3 nm. After spin coating an organic-inorganic sol-gel hybrid material on a silicon substrate, we employed hot embossing technique operated at a low pressure and temperature to form patterns on the silicon substrate by using the fabricated master. We successfully fabricated the multi-mode planar optical waveguides showing low propagation loss of 0.4 dB/cm. The surface roughness of embossed patterns was uniform for more than 10 times of the embossing processes with a single hydrophobic surface treatment of the silicon hard master.

  • Chemically homogeneous $Ba_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}TiO_3$ (BST) sols were synthesized using barium acetate, strontium acetate, and titanium isoproxide as starting materials. BST thin films of thickness 340 nm were deposited on Pt/$TiO_2/SiO_2$/Si and alumina substrates using spin coating method. The technique used for the processing of these films was Ultraviolet (UV) sol-gel photoannealing, using phto-sensitivity precursor solutions and UV-assisted rapid thermal processing(UV-RTP). The crystallization behaviour of the BST sols and thin films was studied by differential thermal analysis (DTA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Variation of permittivity and dielectric loss were measured in LCR-meter, model HP 4394A.

  • Silica-coated Au with Ag, Co, Cu, and Ir bimetallic radioisotope nanoparticles were synthesized by neutron irradiation, after coating $SiO_2$ onto the bimetallic particles by the sol-gel St$\ddot{o}$ber process. Bimetallic nanoparticles were synthesized by irradiating aqueous bimetallic ions at room temperature. Their shell and core diameters were recorded by TEM to be 100 - 112 nm and 20 - 50 nm, respectively. The bimetallic radioisotope nanoparticles' gamma spectra showed that they each contained two gamma-emitting nuclides. The nanoparticles could be used as radiotracers in petrochemical and refinery processes that involve temperatures that would decompose conventional organic radioactive labels.

  • PCM has the ability to change their state, these materials absorb energy during the heating process as a body contact and release energy during a reverse cooling process as phase change take place. Using the thermal energy storage of PCM which has a melting point 15 to $35^{circ}C$ is one of the most effective ideas for utilization in textile finish. In this study, microencapsulated PCM(MCPCM) were synthesized by sol-gel method using the octadecane(or nonadecane) as PCM and the silica as microcapsule materials. To develop smart temperature adaptable textile, coating process was applied to textile substrate using a composition included MCPCM.

  • To fabricate a (100) silicon hard master, we used anisotropic wet etching for the embossing. The etching chemical for the silicon wafer was a TMAH 25$\%$ solution. The anisotropic wet etching produces a smooth sidewall surface inclined at 54.7°, and the surface roughness of the fabricated master is about 1 nm. After spin coating an organic-inorganic sol-gel hybrid resin on a silicon substrate, we used the fabricated master to form patterns on the silicon substrate. Thus, we successfully obtained patterns via the hot embossing technique with the (100) silicon hard master. Moreover, by using a single hydrophobic surface treatment of the master, we succeeded in achieving uniform surface roughness of the embossed patterns for more than ten embossments.
